So I'm seriously insane... but I compiled a list from this post. And Mikey found a Jason's Deli that's approximately central. It's around 30 miles for everyone in the metroplex (some get less, of course... and MyKidsDad just plain ol' gets to drive!). I'll start a post & see if there's any interest. Mikey & I will go & eat together even if no one shows. Hypoglycemic

Ya know, I often have a similar feeling... but for me it's after I let myself go too long between food. When I eat after that, I crash... and almost always require a short nap to recover. I'm not the most experienced hypo, though, lol, by any means. Hopefully the others will have some advice!

3 weeks post op and new to the forum

Welcome to LBT!! You're definitely not alone in the hunger stage. My husband was also banded 2/13. I followed 2 days later on 2/15. We're both starving!!!! In fact, they moved our first fill up a week, hehe. Cannot wait!

    How can bands slip?

So I just did some research on this, because the picture my surgeon showed me was nothing like Wheetsin's, hehe. I found the coolest article! http://www.ricercaecura.it/cont/1640app/0505/0300/11426all1.pdf I'll attach a pic I got from there... I modified it a little (added labels). My understanding of things: 1. Originally they didn't stitch the lower stomach to anything to keep the band in place. 2. Currently most surgeons do the upper stitching (I believe the greater curvature is stitched to itself, or possibly another muscle, "over" the band -- creating a sort of belt loop) 3. This study was discussing the merits of stitching the lesser curvature also (to the right crus... part of the diaphragm)... it appears from browsing that some surgeons do this, some don't. Slippage can occur when any of the many stitches comes out, or was too loose, or wasn't done at all. It can occur anteriorly or posteriorly. Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, lol, I just read a bunch of pages today.
  8. That's great news! I personally want to avoid deflation as much as possible!

    February 2006 bandsters unite!!

That's awesome Stacey! Thanks for keeping us updated!! Yeah, I'm a bit... um... sad about the lack of weight loss for me. I really need to get a fill. The pre-op diet was more dieting then I can stand, lol, so I'm back to eating way too much. The weight loss has stalled & I'm afraid of it going back up. Fill coming on 3/21, baby!!

Our doctor advised Ducolax suppositories to clean us out the first time... then Benefiber (it's non-bulking, which is important) to continue with a, um, more productive cycle. I'll see what I can do about updating the front page, Dena. I don't know that I'm up for the work of keeping track of pre-op versus post-op, but I can put the pre-op number down first... and then you can subtract that. So for me it'll be: -2 pre-op, -12 total. Good luck with your appointment Becky! Let us know what he says!!

    Hypoglycemic

3 weeks, awesome!! I'm borderline hypoglycemic (i.e. I never bothered to get diagnosed)... and I use the Isopure Zero Carb RTD Protein drinks extensively (about $3 per bottle, but 40g protein, ZERO carbs & 160 calories). They rock... 20 oz, I can sip on them for an hour or more. (I read about someone taking shot glasses of them every hour, hehe, too much work for me. ) The main thing for me was to be sure I was drinking something every couple of hours, because just after surgery I didn't really feel like it. (You know how that goes....) Paula -- hypo = too little, hyper = too much. Hyperglycemia = high blood suger (not sure how this differs from diabetes, or even if it differs), hypoglycemia = low blood sugar.

    Howdy

Hiya Shannon & welcome to LBT!! I can't wait to follow your progress! I'll answer for Mikey, since I can, hehe. His main instrument is keys, but he also plays bass & guitar (electric & acoustic). He's one of those disgusting people that can play anything they pick up. And has an awesome voice to boot! I was so jealous of him I had to marry him, lol. :Banane40: You can check him out at www.MikeyCunningham.com (shameless hubby promotion much?! ) Anyway, welcome to the community & ask as many questions as you can! :waytogo: (( Hugs!! ))

Happy birthday Stacey!! And congrats on the 1st fill! I think you're the first of us! Let us know what it's like! Dena -- We lost a bunch right after surgery (we both lost 10 pounds in that first week)... but then it stalled. As we went back onto solid food, I think I'm glad that we didn't gain, lol. We're definitely hungry again & having to fight ourselves to not overeat. Bring on the fills! (First one 3/21, they moved it up a week for us .)

    Newbie from North Texas

Welcome to LBT Kenny! I don't think you're too young, wish it had been available when I was under 30! If you're out Southlake way, we used Dr Sewell (he operates both in Southlake & HEB Methodist). I've got nothing but great things to say about him. (Of course we're still new, but he's been great!) Good luck & keep us updated!

    What's the Sweet Spot?

My understanding of the "sweet spot": Each band will hold some amount of saline (mine holds 4cc). Your surgeon will only put in a tiny amount with each fill (for safety reasons). You'll find that as you go, you may get SOME restriction, but not enough... but you can see the amount you can eat go down... and down... and down... until you hit your sweet spot. Some get filled past the sweet spot & have to get a tiny unfill... to get back to that wonderful spot. When you've hit your sweet spot you eat enough to continue losing and don't PB often. As you continue to lose, your sweet spot may change, so you may need a touch-up fill. Can't wait to get there!

Ouch Michelle!! That's a long wait for that first fill! It's going to be worth it though... I can't wait!
