So sorry to hear about the loss of your best friend. My heart hurts for you. I haven't told one person in my family I'm having surgery. They are all blabber mouths. Good luck with your surgery and sorry for your friend's passing.

The pre-op diet is going okay. I have it easier than some, doing it only for a week and with 3 protein shakes a day and then a Weight Watchers and Lean Cuisine meal for dinner. But I will admit, I am hungry. But I also know it won't kill me. I started it early on Sunday because I wanted to lose a few pounds before my pre-op visit (so I put myself through this a few days longer than I needed to already). But I did have one last cheat meal on Wednesday night and sadly I didn't even like it/enjoy it. How is the pre-op diet going for you?

I asked this same question a few weeks ago and most people said to not tell anyone because for those who did, said they got a lot of negative backlash from others. It seems most only told immediate family and close friends and co-workers they trusted. When others asked about their weight loss, they just said they were on a low-carb diet. I have only told a handful of people about my upcoming WLS. I don't feel it is everyone's business. I have already lost 40+ pounds on my own in the last four months so people are already noticing I am losing weight and they will just think I am stepping it up a notch after I have the surgery. Good luck with what you decide to do. Don't let the busy bodies and the naysayers get to you! Also good luck with your surgery.

My surgery is the 6th too! I think you're the only other person I've seen whose surgery is the same day as mine!

You look stunning You should be very proud of yourself. I hope I can say the same thing about myself in a year. Best wishes and good luck with continued success. -
What month did you lose the most?

Thank you for getting back to me. You've had great results and I can't wait to start having them as well. I can only imagine how you feel like a new person not having to carry around the extra weight. My fiancé of course doesn't think I'm fat because he doesn't know how much I weigh, but when I said, when I weigh 90 lbs less, I am going to have a lot more energy. Then I think it really sunk into his thick skull that I truly need this surgery and that yeah I will have more energy! Thank you again for your reply and good luck with your continued success. -

I have my surgery next week and am pretty much exactly where you started - same age, height and weight. How are you doing now? How has this whole process been for you? I am anxious to hear where I might be in six months! -
That is great news that your surgery date is just a little over 2 weeks away! Congratulations! Is your diet straight liquids? It's amazing to me how the diets all vary so much. I started my diet on Sunday because I have my pre-op appointment tomorrow and didn't want to weigh more than the last time I saw my surgeon since I'd been a pig lately. I am going to have one last splurge meal though tomorrow night because my official pre-op diet is to officially start on the 30th. Anyway, so far the pre-op diet of 3 Unjury shakes during the day and a Lean Cuisine meal for dinner has actually gone well. I haven't minded it at all, but I am sure by next week I am going to be really sick of it. I will say that the strawberry sorbet Unjury is pretty gross though so I have tried mixing it with sugar free jello and it's not quite as digusting, but it's still not great. Surgery on April 6th!! Congratulations on getting your date and good luck with the diet. Keep in touch.

I am starting unjury today and there isn't a scoop in the container. Can anyone tell me - how much is a scoop size? I am not familiar with 27 grams which is what the container says a serving size is. Is it 2 tablespoons? A quarter cup? What? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!! I have ordered the chocolate and strawberry sorbet.

Yay!!! Congratulations! Waiting until next week to find out your date stinks, but at least you know that you'll find out soon. Enjoy your last days of eating freely.

I haven't had surgery yet but are you just drinking 1 ounce at a time? My doc's office recommends Premier Protein . I have been having that for a couple months now prior to surgery and I like it but who knows if I can tolerate it after surgery. They said to try to have one of those throughout the day starting on day three after the surgery. I hope things get better for you soon! I am sure someone with some experience will respond to this post with some good info for you.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that he will!

It's 39 right now, but was 43 when I initially saw the surgeon in January . I think he felt that since I've been losing weight consistently that my liver has already been shrinking so 1 week of the diet is sufficient. I certainly didn't complain when he gave me this diet. I start it on the 30th.

I had lost 20 lbs in two months so my doc is having me do 1 week pre op of 3 protein drinks and a lean cuisine or weight watchers meal at night and he said I should still lose a pound a day.

I went to my "Post-Op" Class yesterday and found out that during the first week I have to drink 1 ounce of Water every 15 minutes for a total of 64 ounces a day so that I won't get dehydrated. We were told to set a timer so we are getting this Fluid down every 15 minutes. I did the math and if we actually do this we are going to have to be awake for 16 hours a day. If we are recovering from surgery, how are we supposed to be getting any rest if we are awake for 16 hours every day for a week? Would you experienced sleevers please explain to me how you got through this week doing this? (My surgery is scheduled for April 6th.)

To Tell or Not To Tell - That is the Question
JRaye posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having gastric sleeve surgery on April 6th (yay!) and so far have only told a handful of people. I am a private person when it comes to losing weight because I hate the questions of "how is the dieting going?" "how much weight have you lost?" So this time around I really don't want to deal with it, plus I don't want to deal with the judgement involved. Also, I want to add that in the last four month I have lost 40 lbs on my own so people are already noticing that I am losing weight so I am figuring that they will just assume that I am continuing on with the weight loss after I have had the gastric sleeve surgery. I don't live near my family and only see them once or twice a year so I am not worried about their reaction when I see them. I guess what I want to know is have any of you not told others that you are having this surgery and if so, how has it worked for you? What have you said to people when you have been asked about your weight loss? People are just too nosy for me and I feel like it is none of their business. Maybe I'm being being too much of a b*tch about it. I don't know. -
April 6th for me! Good luck to you all

To Tell or Not To Tell - That is the Question
JRaye replied to JRaye's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone for your input and support. I really appreciate what you've had to say. It makes me feel better about my decision to tell as few people as possible. Like many of you, I've told a couple people at work because I've had to. I've told my fiance and my daughter and a couple close friends. Other than that, I've told no one. If I tell my mom, she will put it on Facebook and that is no lie. I have been losing 10 lbs a month for the last 4 months and people are noticing it now so I am hoping they will just think it is continued weight loss after I have the surgery. Today we had a department lunch and when I was dishing up my plate, one my of co-workers who noticed my weight loss said "should you be eating that"? (I told her that I can't be dieting all of the time.) She doesn't know about my surgery (thank god) and this is the perfect example to me as to why everyone does not need to know about it. So again, thank you to all of you who have reconfirmed to me to not let many know what is going on. People are just too nosy and judgmental.
