KCCMBB reacted to yncse8 in one year surgiversary
Hi, I just passed my one year surgiversary and I wanted to offer up my thoughts on what this passed year has brought. My day of surgery weight was 285. My current weight is 138.5. I have read a lot of the forums and was surprised to see how many folks had regrets. I can honestly say I have none even though I had to have another surgery to fix an internal hernia and remove lesions. I feel blessed that I was given this tool, yes, it is only a tool. It is not a magical procedure that miraculously makes you thin and fixes all the problems in your life. Your struggle with obesity still continues long after surgery. The hard work really begins once you resume eating every day foods. I have not had soda (including diet), cakes, Cookies, bread, Pasta, potatoes, chips, any type of junk food, processed meats, etc since a month prior to my June 2016 surgery. Do I miss it? Not really as the trade off is much sweeter than any cookie. Instead of indulging in food, I can indulge in a smaller sized wardrobe. I do cook for my family and bake. I have become a master at washing my hands off as soon as I get icing, or cake batter or cookie dough on my fingers. I don't take tastes of these things either. I know it is a very slippery slope and these types of food are triggers to bad behavior for me. I struggle with the same bad habits that I had when I was heavier. These habits do not disappear with the rerouting of your internal plumbing. You have to look within yourself and decide what you want the outcome of this surgery to be. I wanted to be healthier and feel better about myself. I know that being happier about myself would spill over to family and friends. I am more confident about myself which has benefited me at work. If you are contemplating the surgery, go for it! If you are regretting the surgery, don't! Look at it as a gift that will keep on giving as you become healthier, more confident and ready to take on the world. This is a once in life time opportunity. Thank you.

Good idea on the shorts. I have to add holes to my belt. I add extras so I have something to work towards. I have gone from size 60 to 50 currently, but I bought a pair of 46 shorts to keep me going.

Hope you have continued success. It gets better each day.

Have u tried GENEPRO Protein mix? I can't do Protein Drink either and genepro is flavorless and doesn't change the consistency of the drink. I mix mine in my coffee every morning.. it will take some time to figure out what u can eat and not eat.. I couldn't drink Water up until like a week ago.. I live off of chicken salad, tuna, fish and shrimp lol

No sweets at all. Go back to basics. Lean meat, veggies, no sugar, no Pasta, no bread, no fried food, no fast food. I exercise a lot & eat 1500 calories/day. Try walking 4-5 days a week. An hour each time. If you want to reset your pouch drink Protein Shakes for your meals in the day & 1 healthy meal in the evening. Do this for 2 days & your pouch will reset. Mine had stretched a lil because I was eating too much. I reset mine last week & can really tell the difference. You just fell off the wagon a lil. Time to refocus & get back on track. Good Luck to ya

Very excited about the future as I had my surgery this past Wednesday the 24th of May. I was duped into believing I would be back to work next week and after 4 days that's not gonna happen. I haven't any issues as of yet, liquids and broth all going down fine and the pop cycles are special. I look forward to a better me as I love playing with the grands.

I use an Apple watch and if you hold down the button on the watch it has a medical ID section (Same info on your phone) . Hopefully Apple has notified emergency/medical personnel and first responders how to access this information. Its really simple.

I just endured one of the hardest weeks since my surgery. Week 3 has been hard. The constant nausea, the Constipation, the stall, the constant disgusting taste in my mouth.. You name it. I felt hlrrible, discouraged, upset, depressed...
And then, last night, I made chili.
I swear this chili made my soul return to my body. Not only was I able to eat a lot more, but it also sat in my pouch quite nicely without causing me any pain or discomfort. I was even able to sleep better because of it. So, if you are struggling to get Protein or any type of food in and keep it down, I could not recommend chili enough!

Today is one year from my bypass surgery. So much has changed in this one year. Both my life and I are unrecognisable.
Now I am going to attempt to post the obligatory before and after shots.   (please disregard my messy closet in the "after" picture!)

Good morning!!! Well my three month wait, finally paid off. I had surgery yesterday. My experience thus far has been pretty good. I slept most of yesterday, so Im wide awake since 3am pst. I have 7 incision sites. I cant feel much pain in any of them but one. The big one is about 3 inch incision right next to my ribcage, it's rather tender, hurts to sit up and walk. My nurse ordered me a binder to support my belly better while walking. No appetite as of yet. Ive walk twice, once a couple hours after surgery and the other last night. Last night I doubled the distance and felt the gas moving after. Only minor burps, no passing gas yet. I cant wait for the relief though. My mouth is so super dry: my tongues sticking to the roof of my mouth. Im using sponge sticks with Water to get my mouth wet. Ill be in the hospital until Thursday. My surgical team was great! My Surgeon is simply the best. Im so happy.
Sorry for typos Im on heavy meds and groggy, but couldn't wait to post my first time!!

    Lots of hard work.
    Many sacrifices.
    Lots of self talk.
    Much dedication and self motivation.
But it was all worth it!
The time flew by and I can't believe I am where I am just 13 short months after my Gastric Bypass surgery.
I saved my own life and will thank myself everyday.
I wasted too much of my precious life and now I'm gonna make up for it!
Turning 41 in a couple days and I've never felt better, happier, healthier and of course lighter!!!
Thanks for all that have traveled along this journey with me!

9 months post-op, RNY, Protein is my main focus then healthy carbs (veggies ) then grains if I have room.
I eat 4 oz max at a meal ...2 oz is dense protein meat usually, 1 oz veggies (carrots ,asparagus , green Beans etc.) and 1 oz grain (quinoa, lentils, chick peas etc.)
A day would go like this
Breakfast - 1/4 cup egg white , 1 oz chicken ,fish, or shrimp, and 1oz of hard cheese. I add 11tbsp salsa for flavoring and make a high protein omelet .
snack - Protein Shake with 2-4 oz of fruit added Frozen berries and or Bananna . I use Body Fortress whey isolate from Walmart.< /p>
Lunch- fish of some kind (tuna, salmon, tilapia whatever is on hand, 2 oz.
Plain Greek yogurt (1oz) , I use it like tartar sauce for my fish
Beans (1oz) chick peas, lentil, kidney beans etc
Supper- chicken or whatever dense protein , ( beef, ham, pork, fish, ) 2 oz.
Veggies raw or cooked, 1 oz. right now I am in asparagus mode
    Quinoa (1 oz)
Snack - (slider protein) fruit flavored Greek yogurt cup or 2 oz cottage cheese with 2 oz fruit or veggies cut into it.
This is just my menu for today, it will get me around 600-650 calories Around 95 protein. Around 35 to 40 carbs and 18 -20 sugars depending on your choices.
I very rarely can finish all four oz. so I make sure I eat my protein first then veggies and grains.
I get between 64 - 80 oz. of liquid daily.
    Good luck on your journey.

I was perfectly capable of going back to work a week after surgery. I took my whole four weeks just to get used to not eating. Not socializing around food. Getting used to watching food commercials and knowing I couldn't have it. Crazy for sure!

The incisions go around my back a couple inches, they do not meet. I am not positive as for the thigh lift. Pre-op, we had talked about if I just wanted the groin incision of the full inner upper thigh incision. I decided, for maximum results, I could live with the full upper length scar. The scar actually does not go all the way to my knee, so I am happy about that, you will never see it with Bermuda shorts on. As far is going around under my butt cheek, I did not expect that, so added bonus for me. It goes about half way across, under my butt cheek.
