Has Anyone Kept Their Surgery A Secret?
Sosewsue61 replied to Dtrain84's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I told my daughters, my husband, and 3 friends. I will not tell my judgemental relatives or friends that would be unable to relate. One friend has a lap-band, but I am her mother's friend in a shared activity, and another friend that is on a special diet herself for intestinal issue - I only told her I was looking into it. I just don't need the criticism or want to defend my decision. My sister would just be horrid, she already makes comments about how fat she is and really!!! 15-20 is the only extra she is carrying - but I get to hear ' I hate this fat, I have NEVER had a weight problem in my life, blah blah blah. So no to her. Also a niece had a band and she was snide to her. At some point a few others may get told because they should have the surgery too. I am retired so no coworkers to tell. I was a serial weight watcher member and did lose 70 pounds - 7 years ago and put it back on - so people know I have worked on this before and I can just claim I am back at making changes. I always do that when I get close to 230 because I just can't stand the way that feels, so I lose 20, 30, 40 and then allhell breaks loose and I gain it back. -
Do some light yoga, meditation to relax, you are all keyed up. Go get a massage!!

I seriously doubt the physician is going to report it, I think it's absurd. I saw the list of exclusions - lactating lumped in with severe medical conditions. I can fully understand being pregnant!! No surgeon would do any elective surgery on a pregnant woman. Lactating is NOT a medical condition, anymore than having a period is, and I am sure you would pump and dump until meds are out of your system.... Chances are you will not have a let down if you not nursing much. I would just pump before hand and not say anything and if it comes up say, oh yeah I weaned my baby a few weeks ago but it takes awhile to dry up....

High cholesterol post 4 months
Sosewsue61 replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exercise will help with some of it. Eat fish, eggs high in omega3. The important one is triglycerides - eating less carbs over time should help that number. You say it runs in the family, but does anyone have heart problems, heart attacks? Not everyone with high cholesterol develops heart disease and plenty of people with normal cholesterol have heart attacks. I have high cholesterol but no one in our family ever dies of heart disease - all cancer. I refuse to take statins, my own personal choice. -
Is it Possible that a person isnt meant to be skinny?
Sosewsue61 replied to Chaelove0810's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is a lot we don't know regarding genetics, but we have to use what we do know. We do know processed food is an issue and consuming it leads to cravings and less satisfaction and poor health. Back in the 1960's we did not have this proliferation of processed food and the people/workplace were less sedentary. There were still obese people but not even half as many as now. And I only remember 5 kids in elementary school that had a weight issue, now I see very heavy kids, plus slightly overweight kids in the majority. It starts in the home, and a parent has the opportunity to control most of it if they have the information and willingness to do so. The impediment to this is misinformation fed to us by the latest 'study' on nutritional guidelines totally skewed by many factors. I believe we can all be a healthy weight but not easily if it has been messed up since childhood. I believe we have different shapes and frames, but you can clearly see fat on those shapes and frames if it is there. The 'normal' natural weight people I know do not overeat and are not food obsessed - do not get anxious about when or what they are going to eat, do not eat like it is their last meal on earth and stop when they are full. -
Why are post-op diets so different?!
Sosewsue61 replied to celeniavsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see other commonalities: protein first (forever) 60-80-100 grams, no liquids with meals, then vegetables -

Happy Mother's Day 🌹 to you. Happy sailing on your voyage!!! -
State medicaid is only for the state it was issued in..... Do you have relatives in any of the areas that have surgeons? Maybe you could stay with them for this process.

Experience with Dr. Laura Carmina Cardenas and Beauty Enhance?
Sosewsue61 replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Not for the surgery part itself. I would never suggest anything illegal.... But why can't you have a physician verify that you are recovering from surgery via examination? -
Are you near goal weight? I always heard to wait until your goal weight has maintained for 6 months

Hang in there sweetie, I will say a couple prayers. Just keep asking questions (how big is this leak, where is the leak, how will it heal, will it cause scar tissue inside the stomach that will cause an issue down the road, can you go in and fix it after the infection settles down, will I go home with a drain tube, how will you check after it heals, etc)

Maybe your bariatric surgeon could do the fmla forms for plastics as well, I am sure they know how to do it. -

Look at that happy smile!! Good job! -
So sorry you are having these issues. I am glad you are at the hospital. You cannot blame yourself for a 'technical' issue which sounds like a surgical error to me!!! Did they do a fluoroscopy? I would ask to see test results, point out where this leak is!! Don't freak out over the drain tubes and a picc line, my 13 yr old granddaughter had to have that when her appendix leaked during the appendectomy and she was on two antibiotics and it was 11 days in the hospital, and it is all fine, and that certainly wasn't her fault. And ask how the RNY is the solution. Keep us updated.

Surgery Day Is Here!

Check in and let us know. Good luck. -
It is true that there are differences when people have a higher BMI and go through changes, physical and mental on their journey, than someone with a 'lower BMI'. I already stated we each have our own experiences, choices and opinions to own.

One more post on this dead horse. Type 1 diabetics need insulin forever, but that is off topic on the OP.
-
Everyone is going to be biased based on their own experiences, that is not the debate. There is no debate, just plenty of opinions and anecdotal evidence but what is needed here is guilt free sharing. If meds do not work for one person, they might be just what the other person does need and neither should be shamed by the choice and that is the point.

That's it?....no protein powder?

http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/10/news/economy/aetna-obamacare/ This is not a political debate. Even prior to the current presidency the ACA wasn't working for insurance companies and they dropped out. I used to have many choices of companies in the first two years of the ACA. This year I had 2. And next year it sounds like only ONE and not my current one. This is information. This year may be the year you HAVE to get surgery if you use either Aetna or Humana insurance to do so, as they will drop being part of the ACA.

Not all antidepressants are SSRI, some work on dopamine and norepinephrine. Welbutrin is one of those and a person can taper off of it fairly easy w little side effects. While I am not offended easily I am taken aback at people that say 'don't take anything, don't take anything' when it saves lives all the time, and it's ironic that we are on here having DRASTIC surgery for medical reasons but eschew medication, while giving expert medical advice......holy merde

How did you handle changing clothing size ?
Sosewsue61 replied to Elizabethtash's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Community wide garage sales, look in the newspaper or small town flyers, they happen here all summer, even in the gated community it is open to the public starting day 2. Church thrift sales, again call around a little or check bulletin boards. Local craigslist. Marshall's or TJMaxx, Cato. -
Woohoo! Just saw cardio and he said my risk was 1%, and I don't need an EKG or stress test!!!! And lost 3# at 1st NUT weighin today...
