Keep having faith in yourself. Thank your body for all the work it has done - giving you two beautiful babies and keeping you going, and now becoming stronger. You will have more of these moments to build on. Congrats. -
Psychological evaluation ! What to say ? What not to say ?
Sosewsue61 replied to kbellakat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Abeille213 Not taking the bait to be your sparring partner on this or any other topic. Just an FYI though, I am educated in a science, one that deals in logic. -
Psychological evaluation ! What to say ? What not to say ?
Sosewsue61 replied to kbellakat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Psychology is not a real science IMO. I am not saying therapy can't be vaulable, but history proves psychology/psychiatry has been wrong more than right. I don't believe personality tests are valid science either. I hope my appt does not have such a test, as it then becomes part of your medical record forever. You don't take one to get any other surgery. -

You can't do it for him. And if you research, you will see that there will be changes and high emotions, and more changes. Just tell him you are willing to make food changes to get through all the food stages and to let you know what HE wants them to be and then let go of preconceived scenarios. But if you know his trigger foods then don't buy them, no kid is gonna die if they can't have pizza - they can go to a friend's house or out w/o their father. Just serve simpler meals - chicken/fish vegetables and give the kids snacks on the side. Don't bring home takeout food.

VENTING - can vs should
Sosewsue61 replied to BigTexasMandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@OutsideMatchInsideBecause it takes time to change and to trust yourself, and love is better than all else. I am not for enabling, or beating a dead horse. And you can't change anyone, that I learned from being in an 18 yr alcoholic marriage (ended 23 yrs ago). I decided I could be bitter, but that isn't what I want to be. Keep posting. I see parallels in successful veterans on this forum and another one with their eating/exercise plans that I find useful. -

Sosewsue61 replied to kbellakat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Psych eval is June 7th and it is 90 minutes long!!! I can't imagine needing all that time, but maybe there is a questionaire or something. I am sure they don't want anyone suicidal, or with severe eating disorders that have not been addressed in some way - at least that is my hope. -
VENTING - can vs should
Sosewsue61 replied to BigTexasMandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm. This got way worse after I commented. People do count, so I learned to be thoughtful when I am direct, if I can. Hormones, emotions run high sometimes, and can make emotionless internet posts seem harsh. People post without taking a deep breath or even thinking. It's good to have veterans that have success and experience, but your journey and head is in a way different 'time zone' than the people just starting out. It's like a calculus teacher that forgets how hard it is for beginning algebra students to just 'get it already'. Yes, there are amazingly head shaking questions about eating pizza 2 weeks out or drinking alcohol but there are also legitimate questions. I can't offer much anyway because I am preop, I usually ask the OP more questions so I can get more details and see where it goes. I am sure I have some moaning, and battles ahead, I hope to recall those posts when I have an issue that might be similar. -
There are clear protein powders you can add to water or ready made Isopure and Synthrax nectar.

VENTING - can vs should
Sosewsue61 replied to BigTexasMandy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is exactly what the OP is getting at - getting snarky, personal and combative in words and approach. And it happens on nearly every internet forum. I have seen great threads and I have seen some threads that get abusive in nature. Everyone is allowed an opinion and to give their personal experience as an example. The consensus is that we all want the best outcome for people seeking advice. When there is a huge discrepancy in dietary plans from the various bariatric teams, and even support and care, so if those posters come on here and read yet other variations from users, it is going to be hard to decipher the best options let alone manage the 'in-fighting' and tone. -
Go to a bariatric group for support, join a church or social group. Offer to help your friends clean house - swap cleaning dates, I used to do that when I was a military wife. Find a new hobby that has meetings - book group, painting, knitting, sewing, biking, anything. Volunteer somewhere. I know that family thing is hard, I haven't seen my niece Tina since her son was a baby 14 years ago and all of them only live 45 minutes away and not for lack of inviting them either. They obviously don't want me in their lives and my husband's nephew is the same and we are nice people and fun too. So don't think it is you.

Surgery Cancelled Due to High Blood Pressure
Sosewsue61 replied to tx_scorpio's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
No deli meat, canned soups, processed food - try to stick to cooked chicken, grilled meat, veggies, skim milk, oatmeal, blueberries, yogurt (if you tolerate milk). Use Mrs. Dash for seasoning and garlic..... Take one magnesium at night. -

Avoid caffeine, salty food...I am sure you know this though..... -
Why no protein the first week - that is why you are dizzy, that is complete fasting????? There are clear protein drinks. Mix protein powder in the yogurts to get some extra in your system. Get your vitamins in too.

List what you are eating and drinking, calories, protein, carbs, fats, liquid intake etc

Missing 1 Year of 3 Year Weight History

Is your insurance self-funded, or county/city contracted? How many years history is required - seems a little extreme. -

Sosewsue61 replied to AdecadeLater's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@AdecadeLater I just found this post. Thank you for your confirmation that this procedure really does work long term. I will have my surgery around October, and I will think of all your success while I go through my journey. I too am a little freaked out about the not drinking during and after food.
