HELP ANYONE AND EVERYONE NEED ADVISE
Sosewsue61 replied to karensuue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad you are seeking help. Does your insurance cover bariatrics, check and see if you can get your primary doctor to refer you to the nutritionist. Get a blood workup that shows whether you have vitamin/mineral deficiencies. What are the rules for eating w the sleeve? Protein first - lean dense protein, 60-100grams. Do you weigh/measure/track your daily intake? No drinking during meals or after meals for at least 30 minutes. Fluid intake at least 64ozs, do you track that? How many calories a day are you eating? No grazing all day - you admitted you do this so you know it's wrong. Plan 3 meals w protein and 2-3 planned snacks. And vegetables are proper nutrition your body needs. Also vitamins and supplements, calcium. -
First Nutrition Meeting

Steady as she goes!!! It goes fast, I am halfway through and it seems fast. I am using this time to change - I gave up soda, my tea is now half decaf, I bought a fitbit to track steps, next I am going to try to not drink during meals. -
Curious if anyone joins TOPS, OA or WW after wls (or preop and after) for added support/accountability? I know various comments have been made that people generally keep wls secret if attending, but TOPS does have a category/division for wls members as far as awards go. (But there is still stigma that surgery is somehow not as 'pure' as dieting.) So has anyone on here done this for any length of time? My bariatric group has not started a support mtg, I keep hearing that they will but see no signs in that direction.

Hang in there, liquid diet pre and post op are horrid to get through (I am preop, but did a liquid diet once years ago - totally the worst and not looking forward to it again either). Try to have a cup of hot tea and take a soothing bath, pamper yourself a little, buy some new lotion, etc. Hang in there. -
Exhausted, 2 weeks out and nothing but water
Sosewsue61 replied to nikki1405's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is starvation and ridiculous, I have never heard of 2 weeks on water alone. You need protein to heal. -

Can you please change that goofy font you are using? Your post is hard to read and annoying. -
I can add, good wishes and health in mind and body. Be aware that this surgery can upset hormone balances and bring erratic periods and acne and all sorts of changes that may be hard to prepare for and handle. Likely her young skin has enough collagen to bounce back well and may not require plastic surgery, at any rate she should wait on that until after having children anyway. And speaking of that the recommendation is to refrain from pregnancy for a couple years after goal weight. She will not know how to BE a thin person and might struggle with those emotions; suddenly getting male attention can be a heady experience and might be a relationship issue that secure people have issues with let alone a 20yr old. Also transfer addictions are common - so stay in counseling for at least a year just for good measure.

@CharlyScott Check- in. LOL I am 3 mos in the preop. Only thing left is 3 NUT appt, ultrasounds stomach, legs, etc, bloodwork, EGD?, surgeon consult 2 weeks before? I did not need sleep study, EKG/stress, and already did Pysch. Have lost 9# since PCP initial appt. (Charly I still can barely see and it's a waiting game) Sue -

Long term vsg implications
Sosewsue61 replied to Deactivatedfatgal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
One of the main causes of gastroparesis is damage to the vagus nerve. I have read that during vsg it can be damaged. That means the stomach muscle that contracts and moves food fails to do that and food sits too long in the stomach and makes you sick from bacteria and can become impacted. It sounds as if the conditions for vsg are ripe for this to happen based on the proscribed eating directives after surgery - dense protein/no liquids during meals/ limited complex carbs, if that nerve is damaged. There is no cure for gastroparesis, only managed treatment w difficult outcomes. Yikes. -

Leaving dieting behind
Sosewsue61 replied to bellabloom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Intuitive eating IS mindful eating. Geneen Roth is a proponent of this style and she has workshops for disordered eating. She conquered disordered eating herself. The OP is trying to eat normal. Normal people don't endlessly think about food. They eat when hungry, stop when full, and go on about their day forgetting about food. It's when you give up the anxiety about food because you no longer USE food the same way that you did, when you used it to fulfill an unmet need, quell anxiety/grief rejection, worthiness love hate fear etc. It just becomes food, you learn to trust yourself. I am working on this prior to surgery. -
You don't say what and how much you are eating and how much liquid, etc...
