I would check out with an office manager about all those cancellations. If it was me, I would make a trip in-person to see what the heck was going on.

Conquering the sweet tooth
Sosewsue61 replied to Khaleesi Kim's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have to have something pair it w protein to slow down the sugar entering your bloodstream. Like PB and apple, yogurt and berries, string cheese and a pear. Pick naturally occurring sugar. -
Exhausted, 2 weeks out and nothing but water
Sosewsue61 replied to nikki1405's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not being mean, I am sure you want to follow your dr's orders, but honestly this is the ONLY time I ever heard of such restrictions for so long. Most say 700-800 calories first couple months, then to 1000 for a couple months, then to 1200, etc. ...60-80-100 gr protein daily as soon as you can, then some steamed veg. But full liquids are just to get you started, put unflavored protein powder in your soups, milk in your protein shakes, greek yogurt, etc to get the #gr of protein. You need protein for your metabolism and muscles or you will just lose muscle. Plus continue 64oz of fluids. Good luck. -
I have 3 months left of the 6 month insurance requirement, cannot gain any weight and surgeon wants you to lose what you can obviously to make surgery go easier. I am doing okay, have lost 9-10 lbs from my PCP weigh-in, but faltered a couple days and ate way too many carbs 2 times, got back on the horse though. I too feel like I am flying w/o a net because of only once a month contact with nutritionist vs WW weekly weigh-in. I usually have better results as well. I have a vitreous hemorrage in my only eye with vision, it happened 16 days ago and it is clearing 'maybe' 1% a day - but it means I can't drive, not suposed to bend over/down, lift anything over a couple pounds, walking only( no square dancing), rest at 45° incline. I can't see well enough to do my hobbies - sewing, smocking, beading. The hobbies usually keep me from thinking about eating. I have txt set to xlarge so I can type for short periods before eye strain takes over. This bites!!!

Psychology Appointment Jitters!!
Sosewsue61 replied to leslie0785's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's nothing to worry about, some have tests, either T/F or always, never, sometimes, rarely questions pertaining to life situations or attitude about food. Like - if you were craving an ice cream sundae at midnight would you get dressed and drive to get one? Or have you ever used laxatives for weight loss? And then the interview - ask about what support you have, what negative stress, and what will you do when you encounter stress, and is there any abuse in your history that would impact this process. They mainly want to know if you are suicidal or have eating disorders that need to be addressed before and after surgery. It will be fine. -

Good luck to all of you. -
Sorry to hear of your issues. I assume in your feedings your vitamin deficiencies are being addressed? Have you had plasma exchange or IVIG? I am no doctor but I read about using those treatments for GBS.

Holy cow! Like a totally new person! -
Sounds like a good plan, maybe weigh your food and journal what triggers you to want to eat the wrong stuff - stress, etc.

Some have to try diff meds to get one that works better, ask to switch to a diff type or brand. Don't lie down after eating, don't eat close to bedtime. Some suggest warm liquids in the morning, but not coffee then waiting to eat so stomach can wake up....hope you get some relief

I am only telling a select few and reactions are mixed but surprisingly not in the way I assumed. A couple I thought would object are in favor and while one person I thought would be enthusiastic said she has never considered wls and she outweighs me by 150. My husband was all in, which I thought I would need to convince. I am avoiding telling ones I know to be judgemental a-holez or obnoxious gossips, which I consider facebook the supreme obnoxious gossiper. The stigma for wls I think will remain regardless of surging trends because being fat is held as a bigger personal failure than going bankrupt. We can be successful in a thousand bigger ways but still looked upon like we are lazy and less serious if we are fat. And even if we do lose weight, the minute we gain there are those that secretly applaud, saying I knew you would just gain it back - you have no self control.

Hard boiled eggs, chicken breast grilled and sliced up, salad, three bean salad (google recipe), tuna salad in lettuce wraps - there are to-go tuna packs you can keep at work. Greek yogurt and some berries to mix in - buy a little six pack cooler, premixed protein shakes, soup - again homemade and in serving size containers, make a pot roast w green peppers, onions and italian spices - divide up in containers.

Abdominal pain and diarrhea
Sosewsue61 replied to mari12282's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ER is an expensive trip for a virus, and it won't be a priority, and likely you will pick up sickness from everyone else there. ER is for true emergencies. If you HAVE to be seen try an immediate care instead, but viruses just have to run their course. -
Abdominal pain and diarrhea
Sosewsue61 replied to mari12282's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could just have a virus. I doubt VSG precludes general illnesses. Try usual remedies, fluids, rest, no milk products, only foods easy on tummy. If it lasts more than a few days or gets worse then check w a dr. -

Concerned about Energy and Complications
Sosewsue61 replied to Vivian Krueget's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Everyone worries about the same things when facing surgery, I worried nonstop about total knee replacement, hated the thought of cutting off my bones and getting plastic and titanium parts - But I hated falling from a buckling knee worse. I had TKR and it's been great. I can square dance, and hike but this weight makes it harder. How terrible does being fat feel, how will your health be in 10 years - will you be fatter, have heart disease, diabetes ???- who knows. I know keeping this weight will increase those odds. I have lost 70, 30, 40 pounds over and over on weight watchers and gain back to around 230 and then go on a diet and lose 40, 30, 70 again. I am tired of that and seeking surgery - yes it's drastic but the odds of keeping the weight off will be much greater with the surgery and I want those odds. -
Good luck for taking control. Seek therapy even when you are doing well, there will be huge changes for you as you navigate the journey. Your mom cares about you and that is good. I hope your father comes around, often men's emotional reactions of fear come out as anger or inappropriate responses, you can say to him in a calm moment that his opinion is important but that shaming you is hurtful and you plan to make this decision fully informed and w/o his blessing but that you expect him to love you regardless of his disapproval. Good luck and let us know.

Birth control? for the ladies
Sosewsue61 replied to Carol94303's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most surgeons advise to not get pregnant for over a year after surgery, so birth control that is very effective is required. -
Where do I even start? And what's the fastest route (I have restricted time)
Sosewsue61 replied to PammyC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Insurance can answer what surgeons are approved providers, and required referrals. Yes get your records sent to both the PCP and the bariatric surgeon's team. If you know which surgeon is in-network request it, be him on the referral. Some (most) surgeons require you go through their program and it varies by surgeon - some are weeks and many are 6 months. You see nutritionist, psych eval, EKG/stress test, bloodwork, ultrasound of stomach and legs, EGD (scope of esophagus and stomach, etc. Some insurance requires this as well. -

I am preop and I just started usig the app - Lose It. It's pretty good. It's just my opinion and what works for me when I am losing - but I vary my food choices and my calorie amounts. There is usually one day a week that I have less and one day a week I up the calories 200-300 more but only on one day and not with junk. This was always my system when I was doing the core plan in weight watchers and lost over 70 pounds (yes I am fat again and why I am preop going for surgery now). I read somewhere that keeping your body expecting the same foods all the time leads to plateaus. I can't speak for doing this post op, but you never know.
