  1. As a preop person you will not find me lecturing you, but I am cheering you on - you can do it because the first three steps have already been taken #1) deciding you want the surgery #2) recognizing an issue #3) getting help to fix the issue. So you are far along in the success of the journey. I say HOORAY FOR YOU.

Here I Go (My Journey Thus Far)

You might have to reschedule or risk insurance not covering it. That would be extremely quick decision in one day for approval, most ins is not that fast. I would make sure the whole packet incl the psych eval goes together from your primary/surgeon's office. I think I would ask to be copied on email of it. Good luck.

Here I Go (My Journey Thus Far)

If you go back to work that soon, be diligent about getting your liquids in, you can get dehydrated quickly. And even though you are keeping this private, you may not want to keep it entirely private in case you get sick - your health is more important than the 100% secrecy. You will not be able to predict your recovery reactions.

    Advice...

And are you required to lose weight? Mine doesn't require it, encourage it though. I use an app to track what I eat. Tell us what a typical day or two is like for you.
  9. Hey, I love this site, but the ads are not going to make me buy anything. They are darned annoying. The emails for products are fine. Sue

    No support from husband

Well sorry, he is probably comfortable with the current setup and hates change. Change is hard. But tell him it is only in the first few months that your intake would not be conducive to eating out, and that you will be able to eat out - just not right away. But don't make him think there will be no changes, because there will be adjustments. you can vent on here anytime

Vitamin Deficiency, 13 years post op

How old are you? Could this be perimenopause or menopause? Are you having neuropathy in your feet, etc? Do you smoke? So many variables. Good luck.

    Didn't tell my sister

Don't even discuss her amongst other relatives either, it just fans the flames creating chaos. I am sure her children have had their own issues with her as she has mental illness. Be yourself and take care of you.

    No support

Well your physician can give stats on risks, my cardio dr said less than 1% chance of dying based on my health. I have a much greater chance of deteriorating health if I stay fat!!!! Is she overweight herself? Anyone else in the family die younger from obesity related health issues? If so, use them as reasons why you need surgery, prevent being sicker now so you can enjoy a long life with your kids. It is not more 'pure' to diet it off.

I don't know what to do

I am interested in the responses because I am preop and I know that is me too. I think it's so hard to just 'sit with emotions' and fully feel them. We want them to go away and fast! And food floods the body with those chemicals that ease that pain of facing things head on. I hope I can exercise some of it away, or pull out a yoga tape, but I don't know. I hope you find what works for you.

    New here :) Insurance question.

Check the policy online, most have online logons and you can put in your policy number and get the info, or email an ins coordinator through that portal with direct questions about criteria - they all vary greatly. Some require certain bmi w or w/o comorbidities, 2 yrs of records from your PCP that they have discussed weight loss or that you have been on a weight loss program documented by PCP, some only require 3-6 months supervised weight loss, so it is best to investigate w all those questions.

    What are you saying?

Eventually anyone you see frequently will know one way or another at some point in the journey. Now having said that, there are only a few that will know from inception because I am with them frequently and I want their support. I avoided telling specific people that I know to be negative about wls or gossips because I don't want to feed the vultures in the early stages of recovery. Once I am well into the journey f'em. They have all seen me lose 30-70 lbs before and likely think I am just dieting once again.

    Stress earing

I agree. I am tired and have used food to stay going instead of just taking a nap.

    Somethings off, can anyone help??

Get your PCP to refer you for an endoscopy to check for GERD damage, or just put you on medication for it and see if that helps. PCP can also refer you to Nutritionist. Go back to basics, maybe eliminate dairy and all wheat for a couple weeks. What have you tried so far? Do you track your food?

    Vitamin and Protein Brands ???

Vitamin World, GNC, Amazon, Cotsco have protein powder. You can go get individual packets at GNC and VW to try. I like Jay Robb strawberry and dreamsicle and premade Premier chocolate, but everyone is different and tastes change after surgery too - so don't buy mega tubs until you try some.

    Torn to make a decision

You can always take the one person )that might be receptive to supporting you) to an orientation or a couple appointments so they can see/hear the facts. Then say to them, you may not agree w my decision, but I need you to be supportive of my choice. Once they hear that only a small percentage of people maintain a weight loss they might see things differently. And if they don't at least they know how determined you really are about this.

    Torn to make a decision

You may have no issues now, but the weight will eventually cause a lot of issues. Are the family members against this successful at keeping large amounts of weight off themselves? Or normal sized people that have never struggled? Have any of them kept you from making other decisions you wanted? The reason I ask this is I have had so- called-caring family members that squashed every dream I wanted out of some unfounded fear, they held me back from being my true self my whole life for nothing but their own fears and anxiety. They are all dead now, so I can finally make my own decisions. Trust yourself first, not last. Analyze what you have done so far with regards to weight loss, be honest about it, know your weaknesses, dig for the reasons behind it all. Because the surgery isn't magic, it still takes all your effort to make it work.
  24. Or do 2 protein shakes for lunch and breakfast and a low carb salad/lean protein dinner. Drink 64 oz of water, cut out all sodas, juice, any drink w calories. If you get crazy hungry try hot tea or chicken broth or sugar free popsicles or jello.
  25. Are you tracking food?
