Surgeons who won't set a goal?

Worrying about the future is 'borrowing' trouble, you don't want this to be a 'I have to get to goal ' battle or you might feel like a failure if you struggle long and hard to get to a number. So many factors will influence your end goal - health, heredity, lifestyle, etc. So relax and take the journey, appreciate all the steps, and follow the guidelines and be good to yourself. It's not willpower - that suggests you are deficient and have to correct a defect, it's commitment to yourself which is a positive - like committing to school or marriage....good luck.

I could use help with My Head

I can imagine these transitions suck. I hope you find something to ease your mind. Good luck. http://www.tnsquaredance.org/resources/ Shameless plug for my favorite activity and I promise it is fun, involves music of all types and all types of people. We do have food but you can bring what you can eat to share, but it is not about the food.

    Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty

Very few have had this surgery yet, so you may not get many responses. We can't give medical advice and everyone is different due to individual health issues. Don't let family opinions persuade you to do what YOU have decided you need to do. Money should not be the deciding factor as to what type of surgery is best, there are options for payment plans at most hospitals or some finance companies. Pick the best type of surgery for the best outcome. Good luck.

    hair loss after surgery

Lord, I hope it doesn't take a year to come back in when it happens to me. I think it is likely most people will experience a degree of hair loss. I hope mine is minimal as I have fine thin hair already and I admit to being vain about my hair!!! I am taking biotin and folic acid now, and just started using peppermint oil as well, at least I think I am doing something lol I do know extra folic makes my hair grow like crazy - I was already taking it prior to deciding on wls. I don't know if I agree on surgical shock, maybe lack of nutrient shock because if it was surgery wouldn't all drastic surgeries make people lose hair? Pregnancy can make some lose hair which supports the nutrient theory. So the sooner you can get that protein up to healing level the better chances I suppose to lessen the loss and we all react differently to the wls, so back to the guessing game.
  7. WW is in the profitable weight loss industry and keeps switching the programs every couple of years to make you think they discovered something new that finally has the answer to losing weight. When they made fruit 'free' (because no one is overweight from eating fruit) they messed up - it made weight loss come to a screeching halt for so many people and raises insulin response esp when eaten alone. I thought the core program came closest to the best program and had success with it until I stopped being honest about my food intake. WW is lousy at helping break plateaus or even analyzing why you stop losing even if you are following the program, but they are good at selling you products and leaders are pushed into being salesmen. I am sure Jean Nidetch never had all that in mind when she just wanted to help women lose weight. The original program was a lot like the diabetic exchange program and restricted statchy carbs - weight loss was very steady on that system - I remember it well lol, hated hated that required 4oz of liver I had to choke down weekly but 5 fish meals a week was/is still good advice. All in all the long term stats are in line with most other programs. $$$$$$
  8. I need to do a comparison, my NUT says to buy Celebrate brand and to take 5 dang pills a day wth?

    UHC Denied!

Do a search on here for UHC denied and you may get some ideas on your appeal. Is this employer insurance? Sometimes employers have corporate advocates that can help. Have PCP submit a letter for the appeal. Do you have comorbidities? And how long ago was the low bmi? 4yrs, 3yrs etc and for how long were you at the low bmi? Maybe it wasn't long, maybe your PCP can pinpoint the time frame. Good luck

    Isopure Unflavored Protein

I like Premier Protein RTD. I am sure we all got fat eating ALL the 'right' food <sarcasm> and 4 weeks of some protein drink is going to doom us all!!! I also like Isopure blue raspberry, but it is pricey. I also like Jay Robb powder.
  20. AZ is one of the states required to cover bariatric surgery through the Affordable Care Act, so I don't understand this exclusion. Was your BMI not high enough when you had the sleeve? Could you seek out insurance through the healthcare exchange system and then drop your company insurance? You might try calling a state insurance specialist. Just an idea. Good luck. Sorry just saw your newer post. Are you retired federal employee?

    134 pounds gone

Look at that waistline!!!!!! Congrats on your hard work.
  22. So not smoking for 3 weeks so you could pass tests and then smoking right before wls - sounds like recreational smoking and not need. It makes a person wonder if you are really ready to take this seriously. You came here looking for validation and got it from two 'lay people', and a wth from others. So take your pick and good luck.

    Surgery day today

Good luck and prayers for you and your surgical team.
  24. What state are you in?
  25. You didn't mention what treatments they have tried. A PPI? Is it gerd? Is it a stricture? Have they done a scope? Etc. Room temp liquids, or popsicles, or broth? Clear protein drinks? Sorry she is struggling so much.
