What Foods Haven't You Given Up Yet?
Sosewsue61 replied to Kat410's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try not to think of this type of eating as some type of 'reward', food is not a prize. It is meant to be enjoyed for sure, but the mindset about being 'good' or 'bad' means you are giving food power. That is a mind game you are playing with yourself. Plan it into your meals and just make it part of your food plan if you must. -
Surgery today! Prayers request
Sosewsue61 replied to Amy1234's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bless you and your surgical team. Good luck. -
I have no idea your insurance stipulations or the surgical group, but they are in the business of bariatrics and you will probably be approved even if you continue to lose weight. The psych visits are to help your head match the sleeved stomach because unless you address the binges you will circumvent the sleeve (eat around it and not lose or keep it off). We all have to face whatever food demons we have in order to make it work. I am pre-op and needed the 6 months to evaluate my relationship with food. I have a month left, it goes fast.

Doctors office insisting on requirements my insurance company does not need
Sosewsue61 replied to LacyMay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you have a primary care provider that can just give them the 3 years proof? That part would be easy to just do. Does your insurance co have an online portal where you can log in, email your policy to the doctor's office? I would ask for the email of the insurance coordinator at the dr's office and email it to them. Done. Then I would write a letter to whomever is the business manager of the medical group and just include the facts of your issues without accusations on the staff, and ask questions - ' is there another reason this is standard procedure that I am not understanding or aware of?' ,etc. Be polite and just include the facts. Good luck. I was personally glad to have these months to evaluate where my head is regarding food and habits. -
Eating past the 20 minute mark
Sosewsue61 replied to gotime0810's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just my opinion - but the 20-20-20 and 30-30-30 are just there to make habits you need to stay 'on program', and not flush food out, etc. All good mind and body prep. In the beginning I was told it is just important to get all your nutrients in even if it takes longer than the 20 or 30 minutes, eating the required nutrients until just before being full, another reason to eat slowly. Getting planned nutrients is not grazing, grazing is mindless eating. No TV, reading a book, checking the phone or working.... -
One week! Is this really happening?!
Sosewsue61 replied to Smooter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay away from television and food commercials and the mall food court. Take walks when everyone else is eating, make someone else put the leftover food away . -

Question about protein shakes
Sosewsue61 replied to sarajane80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you get sick of sweet shakes and want something tart, I like Isopure ready-made blue raspberry on ice - 40 grams 20oz. -
Chicken, fish, meat and veggies, avocado, berries Ditch the bread, potatoes, rice, cereal, corn. Keep it to 1000-1200 calories.

I have went through this a little. I dearly love my husband of 20 years and went through the motions of sex but it was just - meh. I had low level depression and I know some on here will say - no don't get medication - but Wellbutrin has helped so much. It worked for me. It also curbs cravings to an extent - it is the same as chantix for stopping smoking. It takes about 3 weeks to fully kick in, and it is easily stopped unlike some other antidepressants.

Can you get grief counseling at church or find a group? Do local hospitals have bariatric support groups? Or call a friend.

Cashews and walnuts are oilier. Add a teaspoon of olive oil in your shake, or add avocado to your veggies for fat and calories. -
I'm terrified to give away my fat clothes now that I'm tiny!
Sosewsue61 replied to itstimealready's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Or take them to the post surgery bariatric group in your area as 'incentive' clothes, they could probably really use them as well. -
Good luck today on all the surgeries!

Welcome. Like any other internet forum, there are gems, plain old rocks, and some quicksand. Do searches on topics you are curious about, view the success before and after photos/stories for inspiration, take advice with a grain of salt, and whine if you need to.

The Mentality requirements
Sosewsue61 replied to RSM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started thinking that I have had really great food in my life already, so I know what it tasted like, enjoyed it. And I will have great tasting food after this surgery as well - not right away of course. Food isn't going away. There isn't going to be a famine, so I am trying to let go of anxiety over not getting food. After a few bites, you just go numb anyway and then it's just unconscious eating until you are stuffed - it's not food you want, it's a feeling. You have to make yourself feel secure in other ways now, you have to actually pay attention in other more positive ways. Yesterday I did something unusual, my husband had a big azz burrito at the county fair, for about 10 minutes I just sat there and watched him eat, asked him if it was any good, he said it was okay. I took a bite of the shredded steak, it was good. So I then went up to the counter and and got steak nachos w shredded cheese. I only ate the lettuce and some meat, some cheese and two chips. And I didn't feel compelled to eat the whole dang thing. That was a different experience. And first we walked all over and looked at exhibits, animals, then walked the midway, then walked ALL the food carts and then he decided on the mexican food. It was still the fair, and it was still fun. I don't ride rides anymore, not because I can't fit, I can, but I don't need my neck jerked around for fun. Besides we were there to do the square dance demo and who needs to show their pettipants on rides!!! lol yeeha! -

Two months out as of August 21st
Sosewsue61 replied to nomorefattypatty's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Do whatever it takes to help you relax. I would just not give her numbers and quantity and just say ' Yes, I am on target for today, my NUT is pleased with my progress on the plan.' And then change the subject. Do you knit or crochet or hand embroider? If you do anything like that, then always carry something around w you and just say - 'hey wanna see what I'm working on now?' Or get out a jigsaw puzzle on the kitchen table or a hand of gin rummy....ANYTHING non-food related...
