Calories In, Calories Out
Sosewsue61 replied to DropWt4Life's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry for the confusion - what I was alluding to was that comments were made by another poster that IF someone was ONLY eating 2000 calories/day that they would NOT be 300 lbs and would not need the sleeve - thus buying into the 'calories in, calories out' dogma. I was debunking that because many suffering from obesity have impaired an metabolism and it is not a matter of calorie consumption, but what the content of those calories are and utilization by the person's biology. -

Calories In, Calories Out
Sosewsue61 replied to DropWt4Life's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Calorie is a unit of heat (or energy) a food or drink will provide. In actuality it is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water from zero to one degree centigrade - multiply by a thousand and you have a kilocalorie aka calorie. Outside the body they can be accurately measured. But inside the body they are not measured directly. They are measured by inference - the only measurable data is the amount of oxygen the body uses, how much carbon dioxide is expended, changes in body temp, etc. It was only tested with the exact same diet - but not tested with varying food composition. SO not all calories are created equal or equally used by every person. And yet this addage persists that ' calories in, calories out ' is the answer. There have been a couple researchers (England?) that debunked this. What I can't believe is someone on a wls forum adhering to that? -
I'm hiding my surgery from family anyone else ?
Sosewsue61 replied to mzsantiago88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only told a select group, and not telling sisters because I know one of them won't be supportive for sure. My daughters, husband, 2 friends, niece know - now wish I hadn't told her (her mom has passed 25 yrs now). She is ab 385 and I didn't think I would get negativity from her but I got a weird vibe from her - said she has NEVER considered wls, nope no part of it....her brother desperately wants it. Anyway cat out of the bag on that now. I don't want to be under a microscope at every family function. -

You have to look at what your policy states, go online and download the secifics as each insurance is very different. -
Good luck. Stay busy.

Happy Surgery Day!! Good luck and saying prayers!

Just have a heart to heart talk with the surgeon and your PCP, but refrain from getting emotional (even though it feels like an emotional situation). Give facts - I am obese, obesity is a challenging disease and the future without the surgery will lead to diabetes and this surgery has an 83% resolve factor for that and 92% for high blood pressure. Then say do you not want those successes for me? Go into the meeting all dressed like a business meeting -because that is what it is.....he is in the business of bariatrics and you are the client - it is your RIGHT to get what you want.

Final clearance and Now I dont qualify!!
Sosewsue61 replied to ukeka22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Use email to get a copy of the exact requirements from the ins coordinator. And ask specific questions. Is the surgeon's insurance coordinator or the actual insurance's coordinator telling you this? Ins coordinator does not make the determination. Do the sleep study. Good luck. -
I am with you in heart and praying. I have friends on Grand Bahama Island, so I am furiously praying.

Well ditch the alcohol..... You don't list what you are eating, so more info is needed from you.
-
Put a little olive/coconut oil in a shake and/or just a little raw oats and more liquids and walk and walk. Or add prune juice. Or do an enema.
-
Niacin makes me turn hot, beet red and itch. But I read that hormones go a little crazy trying to adjust after surgery.

Should I be concerned? Incisions...

I would put a very warm washcloth on it for 15 minutes to soften it up before that 'toothbrush thing'. Yikes, I got goosies just reading it! -
When you say 'back on track' what do you mean? What have you been eating all this time? Post some typical days with macros.

What's your reason for your obesity
Sosewsue61 replied to Siyaa Ela's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Emotional/anxiety eater mainly. I am adopted but know bio parentage (relative). Bio mother not overweight nor father, but paternal grandmother was, and maternal great grandmother also. But I was a preemie - 3lbs 6oz. Adoptive mother fattened me up, was only a little chubby as a child, and maybe 15# overweight as a teen. She also did a psychological number on me, never felt accepted really. Held adoption over my head - ' you better be glad I adopted you or you'd be dead by now.' 'Butch and Marie (natural born children) never had the stuff you did.' And then there is the baking of chocolate cake and telling me I had 'to learn to leave it alone.' Oh let's add my adopted father feeling me up at age 13 - so yeah psycho chit, eh? But I loved them, I deserved better. Then I married a drunk, had 4 beautiful children, stayed 18 years in that. Divorced, now married 20 years to a great man. I am happy but have a few old wounds. My one saving grace was - school - and God. But God wasn't brought to me by way of my parents for sure. I am a great learner and creative and I'm pretty but never knew it or felt it. I (like most of us) have sucessfully lost weight over and over, 7yrs ago I lost 70 lbs and got scared. A guy at work started hitting on me and I ran to food.....I didn't know that then. I know it now. Some situations that I can't control that bring up anxiety make me want to find 'a fix'. I recognize it and work on it. The weirdest things sometimes do it - movies with extreme violence or abuse - I can't watch them. Although if I have good control I can cuss at them, lol 'you f****** ba***rd, just shoot him already, and stay away from the chips/cookies/ice cream.... (there is none in the house anyway). Pregnancies and menopause just added to it all. Ok. I blathered on enough. -
Oh man.....this is one of my biggest fears lol I am so vain about my hair!!!

@Valerie617 What is the reason for only 6oz of Premier Protein? It is low carb, so I am at a loss on that.
