slowing weight loss
Sosewsue61 replied to ebroms17's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
How much real food, how much protein? And it may be a drag but push the liquids more, it will help. -
I have read that while losing the fat hormones get released and can cause all sorts of emotions to arise. Hang in there and take it one day at a time. It's good that you asked for help.
-
Maybe there is a knitting group or you can start one at a church or local hangout, my sister's group has moved theirs around from the library, to Hobby Lobby, to Panera, to wherever - they meet once a week. I don't knit, I crochet and smock. Emotions can be overwhelming, hang in there. Good luck.

It's 24 hours before my surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to Jesusmyhelp's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Quiet meditation is a good state of mind right now. Maybe after church, take a walk with something playing on your phone or get a pedicure or a massage, if you can. May God bless you and your surgical team. -

Warning: Mexicali resorts have tainted
Sosewsue61 posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Warning - reports of meth in 7up at resorts in Mexico - specifically Mexicali. Also bad alcohol as well. Just a precaution if any patients have family members traveling with them to take caution. This is not a hoax, report was on Drudge Report. -
My Journey starting September 2017
Sosewsue61 replied to Megan292's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Megan - it will get better. I am sorry you feel excluded by your friend. I think you should actually ask her after the outing why she excluded you though..... She might actually feel that she is sparing you from frustration by not asking you to attend. Friends are really complicated and be aware that a lot of friendships tank once YOU start changing the 'game'. But you will get more social and have so many new life experiences once you let the new you out. Warning: there are transference addictions and alcohol can be one of them - most docs say don't even try any alcohol for a year after surgery and it takes less to get wasted quicker. Is there a support group for wls patients at your hospital/clinic? If not maybe you could ask to start one, it's sonetimes so good to see other people experiencing the journey and share solutions. Dream big girl!!!! Go buy a top 2 sizes smaller that's on sale and hang it where you can see it, if you get the urge to stuff your feelings - then go 'pet' it and tell yourself you want to fit into this instead of eat. Tell your brother to sod off!!! Lol -
@Joann454 ugh I will be in the boat with you...I am even older - 62. I know my skin will be a real mess, I think it's genetics all the way. I had a friend though that said after 4 years it did get somewhat better. But at my age I don't have time to wait lol. I will have to do plastics, there goes a chunk of the 401k...

My Journey starting September 2017
Sosewsue61 replied to Megan292's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
@Megan292 Welcome. Anxiety can be a real ******. Can you get counseling or take medication for it? Or maybe get a meditation dvd.... The eating is a symptom follwed by the chemical reward of the endorphins sugar/starch is giving you with food. A vicious circle - try low carb/ketogenic diet where you can eat lots of filling protein and a few vegetables. The first 3 or 4 days will be awful, but after you get the carb craving out of your system it will be an amazing feeling. You will gain some energy and not feel hungry. You will be left with the emotions that cause anxiety - instead of reaching for food - just sit with it. Sit and feel the sadness/hurt/anger/fear/fill in the blank feeling. Notice where it is coming from, your head, your heart, your breathing. This is going to sound whacky but I talk to it - like: ' Okay, I see you are back again. what is it this time - a tricky decision, something your azzhat of a brother brought up and made you feel rotten again, an argument, feeling like a fraud? Aha! You feel nervous and unworthy. Well. Eating will not fix that will it? Maybe your brother really is a pissant jerk, maybe you are just trying to hide and forget, make food your ole buddy.....ole pal..... But it isn't your friend. Go look in the mirror - that is your friend - you. Pretend to comfort THIS friend - hey don't be so hard on yourself, let's take a walk and sort this out.......be good to yourself. We all deserve that. The sleeve won't fix your head, your head is where it starts and where it ends. Keep in touch and don't give up. -
Struggling - Update

Oh Tammy, you have been on a rough road!! So sorry for your pain and complications. I hope you are on your way to healing now, be careful and keep us posted. -
I use saccharin - sweet n low. But I am going to try stevia blend with erythritol (sugar alcohol). Also I am old - I remember Funny Face (koolaid type) drink mix and it was sweetened w cyclamates - the US caved to errant reasearch and the sugar industry and banned cyclamates - but you can order it from Canada under Sugar Twin brand name. Many many countries never banned its use. I intend to order some.

What have you learned on your journey
Sosewsue61 replied to IveGotThePower's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have realized that when I eat lo carb and then maybe 5 weeks later when I do eat some fast food I feel like crap for 2 days and my joints hurt more. I don't need diet coke - to wake up, to powerhouse through tasks, etc. I craved that stuff, drank 6-7 cans sometimes more in a day, could not wait to get up and slam a can of that. -

@belinda401 I like Isopure ready made - a little pricey but 20 oz have 40 gr of protein. I like the blue raspberry and punch they are clear liquid and a little tart, pour over ice. I am also stocking up on bone broth. As far as shakes, I like Premier Protein ready-made and Jay Robb dreamsicle. My surgery will be Oct 24th. -
To Minimiser Ring or not to Minimiser Ring, that is the question.
Sosewsue61 replied to MsButterflyKiss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No thanks. I looked at a youtube of the surgery and it is a rounded plastic 'tie wrap' with adjustable 'notches' that fits around the sleeve and sewn in place. I too would be afraid of erosion, etc. According to the advice of vetetans and physicians, the sleeve will work if you don't overeat it......mind its parameters. -

I agree on joining a church, or maybe look for an ADHD support group for a possible babysitter, or resource for babysitters. Do you have neighbors? Co-workers that could provide a ride? I wish you well and good luck with finding some help. Don't give up. -

Getting pregnant less than 12 mths after surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to Nora S's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No one is suggesting the OP go out and get knocked up in 4 months or 6 months, or 9 months. She stated she would take the advice of physicians. 36 is old for a primapara, just because the news is filled with women delaying childbirth until 40 even does not mean it is ideal for conception. Miscarriage risk is 20-35% in this age bracket w/o adding wls into the equation. When she is cleared it can take 1-2 years and this puts her at 38, so her anxiousness is understanadable. I didn't say it should be encouraged to just get pregnant willy-nilly. You know no one wants a bad outcome. And look into supplements to improve egg quality while you are losing weight - melatonin, extra folic acid, etc - ask your obgyn about doing that now. And again good luck. (And please consider breastfeeding - there is my two cents - retired LLL leader. Mother of five (one in heaven), grandmother of 10 (one in heaven).) -

Sosewsue61 replied to Nora S's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Nora S So sorry the response from the other poster was inexcusable. I fail to understand how people can just presume to know anything about another poster's medical circumstances. It is audacious for someone that has children already to want to deny with such venom another that is seeking to have a child. You seem to be informed and cautious and I wish you all the good fortune you can get by having this surgery. -
Why in the 'sam' would Carnie Wilson think opening a bakery biz is a good idea?
Sosewsue61 posted a topic in Rants & Raves
Uh geez Carnie! A bakery? Really? She has had 2 wls and now wants to make caramel praline bread pudding and mini cheesecakes. I don't understand why anyone that has struggled this much would be promoting this type of baked goods...... Maybe it's 'lo-carb' - doubtful..... -
