  1. Most hospital bariatric programs have counselors, take advantage of that - you have the money. There are many problems regarding relationships that you have had that are definitely about self esteem. You have to like yourself and be the real you - not the reactionary you - which is how you are presenting by the venting you have posted. The boards are here for all that support when you need to vent, but we can't fix it for you. I think you know what to do. I am 5'2" and weigh 222 and surgery is in two weeks.
  2. Everything Diana said. But I would give you a big hug and tell you all this as if I was your best friend..... Be your own best friend right now. Give yourself everything you've got and make the changes to feel good about yourself.
  3. Yes what Dale said! Don't try to convince them w your explanations, they are not even hearing you. Say - I have heard your objections, and this topic is CLOSED as of right now. I know you think this is a form of caring, but it is NOT. If you say one more negative word, I am asking you to leave or I will leave. I had to tell my mother off once, not wls. She used to say 'you better be glad we adopted you or you would have been dead by now.' Mind you I was a married adult w children, I spun around and said - 'you never get to say that to me again, I have heard it all my life, and I was a baby - how did I have control over anything? Why did you bother to adopt me then?' She never said it again.

    Did you lose your boobs?

I love #jacketsleevetitties!!! Who knows - when I have lost weight before I went from 44D to 36C but they were the saddest looking things! I already have a flat azz, gonna have to buy one!!!

    Beginning My Journey...

Endoscopy was nothing to worry about, they put you out - mine was with propofol and you wake up easy with that - mouth will be dry as cotton but that's about it. I did have h. Pylori and taking the vile tasting antibiotics - tip - take them with a big gulp of 2% milk, chase with more milk. I think I stressed more about the pysch eval and it was worry for nothing too. You will be fine. Use the time to think about your relationship with food, quit all soda, practice not drinking with meals - this one is a little tough, figure out how to cope with stress/emotions without using food, start walking if you are able. Good luck.

    A Strange Change

This is hilarious!!! I had not thought of some of these. I hope I get Irish red hair! I am 62yr old brunette with barely 12 grey hairs - I pray it doesn't fall out and if it does I pray it doesn't come back in grey!!! I did read someone's came back curly - I'll take that too! lol

    Choosing what to do first?

Since I'm pre-op, who knows what it's all going to look like - but in my mind I am going for boobs and lower body lift/tummy tuck. And then see how that goes, doubt I'll do thighs, arms maybe. I really like Dr Peter Fisher from San Antonio, so far - he does some sculpting that I like - he specializes in wls patients. Go look at his website.
  8. So excited and nervous at the same time. I bought an incentive dress! It was only $20 and found a $3 necklace that matches, although I'm going to re-purpose it as part of the belt. (I'm going to be petting that thing for motivation this next 2 weeks ha ha)
  9. Rught behind you ladies - start pre-op liquid diet this Saturday. I have several kinds of shakes - Jay Robb dreamsicle, Premier Protein choc, vanilla, caramel, Syntrax nectar -17 flavors, Isopure - blue raspberry and punch, and broth, sf jello, and popsicles. 10 days - consisting of 8 days of 800 calories of shakes, and 2 days of anything clear. It's gonna s_$#. LOL Hang in there @hillnicole34, I'm rooting for you.

The Good The Bad & The Nasty

Good to see real reviews. @JeffN well what did you expect for a thread about reviewing products? Some people find them convenient, and of course natural is good - but God made sugar tooand look where that will get you!!! I don't think the posters are using these for every meal. And whey isolate protein is from cows.

    Sleeved on September 12, 2017

The only thing all the veterans say is wait. It happens to nearly everyone around 3 weeks.

    Initial consult scheduled!!

Introduction to the team, weigh-in, some have a short video about the procedure, maybe meet with the NUT (nutritionist), maybe set all your appointments going forward, and answer your questions. Such as - how many surgeries has he/she performed, percentage of complications and most prevalent ones, what kind of staples, what kind of stitches/glue on the stomach incisions, etc

    "LAST SUPPER"

I don't have anything in particular planned, maybe grilled shrimp? I have had a cookie here and there in the 6 months pre-op, some popcorn, couple bites of cheesecake - but I don't feel deprived or anxious to have something special. I do have a slight cold so maybe my taste buds just aren't in the mood. I start liquid pre-op Saturday.

    My spouse is obese too

Have your husband wait 6 months of not smoking. I would change surgeons and have them do an endoscopy on your husband to see what his stomach looks like. If still no approval - get a loan for surgery in Mexico.
  15. No, actually the opposite. Did they give you a PPI for acid reflux? If not then that is the pain you are having, call and get a prescription and take it 15 minutes before taking the other pills.

    Hobbies?

Sewing and making jewelry will be my saving grace. I do love hiking and I square and round dance....
  17. Wow, that is so cool!! Inspiring too.
  18. Yay! @chrissy43 and @njgal - good luck!!!
  19. It won't be May - you will be scheduled before that!!! Relax. Just visualize yourself in one year and how different life will be and it will go fast. I started at the end of April and surgery is in two weeks, at first it seemed long but honestly it has went fast.

H pylori is the last test to take

Every doc is diff on this. I have h. Pylori and am taking the vile antibiotics for 10 days and surgery is in 2 weeks and I don't have to get re-tested. I had no inflammation and no erosion. If you have to take the meds, drinking some 2% milk first and then following w milk helped alot with the bitterness and metallic aftertaste.
  21. Good luck and prayers to you and surgical team.
  22. I bought an incentive dress, I hope to wear it by February on the cruise. (If not it will fit at some point along the way and it was only $20!!!) I'm going to 'pet it' when my reserves get low.

    Relief for knee pain

Right knee TKR - 8 yrs ago, recovery was a rough 6 months, but amazing results. I can dance and hike. I have some arthritis in left knee and left shoulder and a bit concerned about not being able to take Aleve after surgery - at least for awhile, but will soldier on no matter what. Quitting soda pop relieved a lot of joint pain, it leeches minerals from your body. I also believe taking vitamin D3 helps as well as calcium and magnesium. Good luck.

    Attended my consult

If you use the email in the online portal for the insurance they will answer all your questions, such as - am I required to submit an exercise regimen, am I required to lose weight prior to surgery or am I required not to gain weight, am I required to have a sleep study, EDG, stress test, have co-morbities, a certain bmi, can I be denied for any of the above reasons, do I have to attend # of counseling or monthly support meetings, etc. Ask for how long after meeting requirements and submission do they make a determination. And after approval how long do you have to schedule surgery - some give you 6 months once approved. Ask them to attach the specific policy pages that refer to bariatric surgery qualifications to the email. Ask for the phone number of the department that addresses these issues - surgery intake specialist, etc. The person you spoke to has no authority to answer these because that person has no decision making power, there is a specific team that does this. Don't worry. The ins coordinator at the surgeon's office deals with difficult ins companies all the time and they know how to submit the correct paperwork. But keep on top of the ins agency for answers, keep emailing the specific team.
