Just starting the process
Sosewsue61 replied to luvpenguins's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Most surgeons are not doing lapbands due to all the complications in subsequent years, plus it requires endless appointments for fill adjustments....you have to decide, but do more research on issues with it. My friend's has eroded. Having a device and a port is invasive, it's a foreign object. Sleeve surgery is not difficult. Less than a gallbladder surgery. Good luck. -
Let's Dish!!! Do You Still Like To Cook and Interact With Food?
Sosewsue61 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@FluffyChix You know, I had to think really hard during the pre-op phase about those same things. It was a slow process, I tried to conclude that in my lifetime I had already experienced the flavors of wonderful food - I know what my pie tastes like - lol. I decided food needed to 'serve me' and that mediocre food would not touch my plate - after suffering through the initial healing food stages of course. I plan on pretending that Michelin 5-Star restaurant food in tiny portions would be how I want to eat. Three bites of pork medallion sautéed in madeira, w two roasted brussel sprouts w/ gruyere sauce. Because I am f****** worth it!!! Finally. During this time, I did the original Atkins version, read the book with new eyes - it wasn't a free for all like some interpretations, (eat 3 plates of bacon covered in cheese) if you read it thoroughly. He said eat until satisfied - not full. (Only put ONE T of cream in your coffee, only 1oz of hard cheese as a serving). I didn't get crazy with it, and I did visit some old food demons, but wrote in a journal to see why I even wanted to eat at that moment. I had to break the anxiety causing part of it, that is my demon - not the food, the food was trying to be medicine - well it doesn't effing work!!! So journal some more, work on the anxiety. We are all a work in progress, I hope that this is everyone! Some have such hard addictions to some foods that it might be better to never eat them again - potato chips cannot come into my house ever, that rule was already in place. Some people need rigid routine and more bland options - else tempt the tastebuds and bam set off a rash of overeating. Right now - I am not hungry at all and not craving anything, not phening to create a masterpiece. I hope it lasts. I may go the 90/10 route during maintenance for treats - you know the three bites of my grand marnier cheesecake w almond crust. Time will tell. During this first 6 months, I too plan to maximize the surgery boost. -
Let's Dish!!! Do You Still Like To Cook and Interact With Food?
Sosewsue61 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yeah, but Carnie had 2 kids, and stretched her pouch. The big keys are never never ever overeat the sleeve- which is what she did, protein first, 64oz+ liquids..... Carnie does have a lot of demons, her family had/has major issues......I wish her well, but I still don't get the whole 'opening a bakery' thing. -
Did you see your psychological report?

It's not an exact science.....the main point is you will be approved. None of us get out of life unscathed. -

Yay!! You will be fine. Ask for a anti-nausea patch - scopolamine - worked great for me. Good luck!

Abdominoplasty with upper arm lipo set for December - tips welcome!
Sosewsue61 replied to Jewelgirl04's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I did not hear that the pain was less than the sleeve, I heard the opposite!! That would be good though. I read that micropore tape helps with keeping incision from spreading apart, and massage when you are healed enough to allow. Definitely wear compression garments - get 2 - one to wear, one to wash. Will you have drains? -
What questions did you ask?
Sosewsue61 replied to UndercoverDiet's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
What is your complication rate? (.01%) Have you had to repair any leaks? (1 - a patient that had surgery in Mexico) Do you oversew the staple line? (No) Do you prescribe PPI's for everyone after surgery (no - only if needed) How soon can I drive after surgery? (1 week if you are not on pain meds) How soon can I dance/exercise after surgery? (as soon as you feel able, no lifting over 10lbs for 6 weeks) -
If anesthetics make you nauseous ask for the scopolamine patch - works great and for IV pain meds - 1000mg of tylenol and toradol - it really worked great. You will be fine!!! Walk as soon as you can. Once allowed sip fluids every 5 minutes, it will feel like swallowing aquarium rocks at first, but warm tea is easier, or room temp liquid, once that feels a little better try sf popsicles. Good luck.

Sosewsue61 day 4 post-op Oct 28 2017

Ugh shakes are so sweet, I cannot tolerate the caramel premier any more. I prefer to do ready-made Isopure and dilute it with half a glass of crystal light lemonade. Only thing is all the whey isolate protein is constipating to me... I can tolerate pureed tuna and just today canned chicken breast w a spoon of mayo. So progress is coming. -

Good morning. The sleeved side so far has went very well, although I can't wait to stop protein shakes. My only issues are slight pain from incisions, a little dizzy, and forgetting to sip slowly. I have tons of belching/farting, loud intestinal noises, some disgusting foamies, and barium swallow diarrhea. I am not hungry, and must work hard to get protein and fluid goals - not there yet. Looking forward to full liquids next week and so on. The surgery doesn't seem real at times, not complaining about that lol. -
Good luck.

Or you can go to Walmart and buy Sam's Choice organic bone broth. The difference in broth and bone broth is protein levels, more in bone broth 7gr per cup. If I make homemade I roast the bones in the oven as if I was making pot roast, it has more flavor - I add browned mushrooms, onion, green pepper, celery, and lots of garlic. When the bones are browned I add more cold water. You could also add store bone broth to this.

Is there any sleevers out there that don't have a date due to insurance company wanting more information.
Sosewsue61 replied to fabnfit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made a simple spreadsheet and insurance accepted it. I also had a fitbit, so it was easier to compile the spreadsheet. My policy stated up front that it was required. -
Let's Dish!!! Do You Still Like To Cook and Interact With Food?
Sosewsue61 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well my snag is I am raising 10yr old and 7yr old granddaughters - so I have to add some starch in there. My plan is to just add a noodle dish or something for them. We already grill a lot, all winter even. And these girls will eat real food, prefer real food - fish, vegetables, salads, fruit, Coq au vin, venison chili, etc. Of course they will eat brats, burgers, tacos, spaghetti, too!!! My goal is to lose 60 - 65 pounds from today - 200.5. I hope to just concentrate on the protein and a few bites of vegetables as well. I really only go all out at holidays with the pie thing, and whole t-giving dinner. Christmas is prime rib, asparagus, salad, wild rice dish - but if I can't tolerate the beef I will make a chicken thigh or something w asparagus. -

Hi Joann - thanks for asking!! Not bad other than some constipation today. I don't meet protein goals yet but nearly make liquid goals. Lost 8lbs since surgery on Oct 24. I did not nap yesterday YAY but woke up at 4am today with a foot cramp!!! How are you? -

Sosewsue61 replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
*following* I will likely still cook, only 2 weeks out, I did make the family a pot roast dinner. I am quite a good cook, but currently not interested in food - which is good!! I plan on creating some lo-carb recipes, tweaking some holiday cookie recipes, etc. I have some diff sugar substitutes (Swerve) - ordered cyclamates, the original Sugar Twin from Canada. I won't mess with the pie recipes though - would not be forgiven for that or the toffee. -
Calling all October sleevers!!
Sosewsue61 replied to Detroit_25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would take at least a week off, you just never know how you will feel after major surgery and sitting all day will be no picnic with incisions. You will have very little energy because you can't consume much for about 3-4 weeks. Most recommend two weeks, what did your surgeon recommend? -
I don't differniate between shakes, pureed cottage cheese, and liquids at 2 weeks out because I can't consume any great quantity of any one of those to cause over consummuntion. It's just a bottle of anything glued to my hand every minute. It is still hard work. I can swallow slightly bigger sips, but that's it.....lol I assume in time it will improve.

Mariah Carey was reportedly sleeved
Sosewsue61 replied to DaleCruse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She is still stupid though and that's not going to change. When she was on American Idol she had nothing to contribute except to let her tits hang out. (This has little to do with WLS, just sayin') -

How important is exercise?
Sosewsue61 replied to elforman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel for your mobility issues. However you may find some things more tolerable after some weight loss. There are exercises you can do sitting and you may want to check for exercise videos for people in wheelchairs using resistance bands, etc. Question: do you consume carbonated beverages and caffeine? My arthritis was greatly improved after stopping both those things. -
I read where another person had a kink in an intestine and some other issues - Addison's and thyroid that caused the malnutrition - go get checked right away - esp ask them to check for Addison's.

3 weeks out and pain is starting again
Sosewsue61 replied to kathys8055's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could be constipation? Or just gas from diff foods? Is it sharp or dull or intermittent? Or could be nerves mending from pulling internal stitches - is it near an incision? -
