BMI too low for insurance coverage
Sosewsue61 replied to janello's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@janello you said 'as far as you know' you have no comorbidities. Have you had a sleep study for sleep apnea? What is your BP and cholesterol? I would at least try for a sleep study. Good luck. -
Failing miserably...seriously need help
Sosewsue61 replied to Aijan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Aijan Well you stated: My diet is crap. The only stuff that seems to stay down is starchy carbs. bread, potatoes, rice...stuff like that. eggs usually stay down. I don't eat meat (which is fine because it comes up ridiculously quick.) So.....it seems you have tried meat which made me question perhaps trying fish. Pardon me for not having the whole story. So go with TVP, tempeh and tofu products, bread is def not advised, neither is rice and potatoes. And it's a cop out to not show how much protein you are currently ingesting. I call bs. You want someone to tell you you should be eating 60-80 grams of protein a day and keep carbs to never more than 100, but better at under 50, as you will see on these forums by successful vets. So there it is..... -

You won't lose on carbs at 1400 calories and low bmi. How many grams of protein are you getting a day? You should be getting it all from food, with the occasional shake if you are away from home or running behind. Yogurts, cottage cheese, but you won't feel restriction with these and will need to weigh/measure and stick to that instead of the 'full feeling'. Why can't you eat meat - fish, chicken, etc? My NUT says during this losing phase it is very hard to meet goals with vegetarian eating and that you can incorporate it closer to goal. If you are vegetarian - didn't your NUT give you guidelines? The body uses carbs first because it is easy fuel and won't burn fat if you keep feeding it carbs. How many grams of carbs are you consuming in a day? List your food intake for a day. You say you record your food are you using a free app like Baritastic or myfitnesspal? You should see all your macros - this surgery is about protein goals, then veg - you mentioned NONE. -
Omg! Family driving me crazy/depressed
Sosewsue61 replied to krista26's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hang in there Krista. Sorry you have to go through these months of misery. I hope you heal and can get some normalcy soon. As far as family, I can commiserate there!!! Seriously sometimes I think some of them are from another world. -
Well. My carrier dropped out of the ACA and I have only ONE carrier to choose from BCBSIL and the 4 plans suck, coverage is lousy specialists only covered at 50% after deductible (old plan was 80%), premiums/deductibles are higher for a the closest plan. My bariatric physician is not in-network, he is the ONLY surgeon for over 100 miles (- well there is one and he only does the lap-band.) So so so glad I already had my surgery. Still I have an eye condition - ROP from being a preemie and had laser surgery this year from a vitreous hemorrage in June and today - I have a vitreous hemorrage in my eye while out shopping. So I have pepper and black snake floaters in the vitreous fluid, also filmy vision, and an eye 'headache". So looking at another laser surgery on the blood vessels in my eye. I can only see out of that eye, scary sh!tty sh!t. I will probably not post very much for awhile. Sue

Cramps where? Stomach? Legs, muscles? You absolutely HAVE to push the fluids, or you will get dehydrated quickly and end up in the hospital with an IV. Carry a bottle of whatever you can tolerate with you everywhere.
-
Fluids - how many ounces are you getting in a day? Push the fluids, and then push protein. How many grams are you getting in? Isopure ready-made blue raspberry is 40grams, it is tart - I mix half glass of crystal light lemonade and half protein. Don't worry at this point of waiting 30-60 minutes between liquids and protein. At week three I started having 2 great days and then a day of exhaustion where I had to take a short nap. Rest when you need to, also I stopped getting dizzy daily - but fluid really affects that, more fluid=less dizzy. Good luck.
-
You should feel restriction w the chicken if you stoped drinking 30 minutes before and don't drink while eating it.
-
No gum!!!!! Call or email your surgeon's team
-
Maybe put a drink like Isopure ready-made blue raspberry in a thermal cup on your nightstand and drink some before you go to sleep and if you wake-up take some sips.
-
Tuna to go pouches. Keep spoons and water, crystal light packets in the car.

Woohoo hot siren! Congrats!

Wow @nurse247 (and where did you have your boobs done and did you do your arms too?) What was the cost of this procedure? -
My name is Jessica and I had a gastric sleeve done on October 26, 3017. I started out at 265 lbs and at 2 weeks post surgery I was at 241 lbs. I haven't weighed myself since that day. I don't want to constantly worry about what I'm losing. I have had

Help I can’t meet liquids
Sosewsue61 replied to Junebug1973's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You need to call your surgeons NOW and get seen sooner if you can. Have you told them of this struggle? That's what they are getting paid to do. You must do whatever it takes to push the fluids or you will dehydrate and ruin your kidneys among other things. Popsicles, hot tea, soups, crystal light, add fruit to plain water, vitamin water zero. Alternate warm and popsicles every 15 minutes drink anything you can. Nevermind waiting for that 30 minutes or an hour after the shakes or soups - at this point it is all about healing and staying hydrated. Let us know. -
Good luck and keep us posted on your surgery!

Need Advice/help 4 months post op
Sosewsue61 replied to sleevedshereen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh Shereen!! So sorry you are in dire straits. You need to get in touch with your surgeon. How come you are not drinking? Is water an issue going down? Try warm tea or hot chocolate protein drink. Do you have too much restriction? Nausea? It could be a stricture keeping you from getting food down. What about greek yogurt or cottage cheese? Your kidneys will shut down if you don't drink. -
I did at 2.5 weeks and was fine, it was on my list but take it very slow. Don't introduce too many different foods on consecutive days.

Atta girl @sylvia2017 you can do this and we are here for you when you need us.

Almost one year post op water
Sosewsue61 replied to Lise2021's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry but this sounds like no brainer - if you can drink physically in the spring and summer I don't understand why you need help this far out just because of a season change? I'm confused? This sounds like a mind game. You have to drink or you will ruin your kidneys - do you want kidney failure, heart problems? I am serious. -
Yikes! I'm 12 lbs up since surgery 5 days ago!!

Surgeons using 'contracted' out of network surgical assistants
Sosewsue61 posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
Be aware! My surgeon apparently used a contracted surgical assistant not affliated with the hospital and probably not in my insurance network and I will be billed for this. I was not verbally informed of this, I was told students might be observing. I suppose it could have been in the hospital fine print? The surgeon's office however never informed me. There are three states that require insurance companies to cover these contracted assistants - Illinois, Kentucky, and Texas. That doesn't necessarily mean it will be at in-network policy coverage as they have not negotiated rates with your insurance company and you are liable for the bill/remainder within 30 days. I called my surgeon's office and in the surgical notes it lists the person as a 'visitor'. WTH? Anyway the surgical coordinator had an emergency and will call me back to discuss this. I will keep you posted.
