    Vitamins

I was told that if I take Centrum - you need to take 5 spaced out during the day plus the calcium citrate in between the Centrum - because iron interferes w calcium absorption.
  3. Not be wild with abandon nor a hard case because that never helped prior to this. I try to keep food anxiety from slipping in there. There will be food!!! I ate mashed potato and could have skipped that, I also tried a a couple bites of cornbread stuffing and a bite of pumpkin pie and coconut cream pie. And dark meat turkey. Nothing drastic.
  4. You aren't doing anything wrong. Bloating is likely from the anesthetic and the air they pump into the abdominal cavity. PLUS - you could be constipated even though you are getting 'liquid' stools, so to speak. You may want to ask your surgeon about stool softeners or suppositories. Anesthetic sort of puts the intestines to sleep for awhile plus whey protein is just plain constipating (for me anyway). In these early stages, you do not have to wait the 30 minutes to drink water or other liquids, the most important part is getting a lot of fluids other than protein shakes because the intestines are using it to digest the protein shakes and you can get dehydrated even if you are coming close to the fluid goals. Don't be so hard on yourself, and the weight will fluctuate a lot while you are healing, maybe even gain a little, or stall. Please walk around frequently if you can during work breaks, that helps the digestive system get moving as well as just a good habit to get into. Good luck and keep asking questions.

    Restriction Gone

I am 4 weeks out and can drink like no tomorrow...... I can eat some chicken/salmon - like 2oz and 2 green beans and I am stuffed..... Have you tried other proteins? How many ounces is 'a little chicken'?

Aww that made me tear up....

    Down 70lbs!

Wow great job!!! How cool is 30x30!!!
  11. I would imagine in our altered physical state we need to help digestion because of the stomach that is left is missing some of the process. The nerves, muscles, and the entire process have been injured. http://www.innerbody.com/image_digeov/dige11-new.html

    Feeling sad today

Think about this - if you had another type of surgery during this time you would be feeling much kinder to yourself. So relax and be kind, do what you can. If you can just participate a little you will feel a part of it and try to smile. Get dressed up a little, put on some perfume, watch the parade!!!! (Yes that belly button incision has some extra inside stitches too and the stomach was 'tugged' out of the incision. Mine rubbed against my waistband and an interior stitch worked its way to the surface and drove me nuts) Not to be super annoying but a young family in my area died in a house fire tuesday - mercy - and here we are alive and doing okay, we will have many other holidays. Blessings to you all.

    Check Dr for malpractice suits!

How about citing some proof instead of a 'hit and run'?

7/7/14 was my life changing day!

@HealthyandSlimmer - you are late to the ballgame - the OP posted her surgery over 3 years ago!! (You have 4 posts under your belt and comment on an oldie.) And even if this is true - you should cite a link to the proof.

    Toning Legs

Thanks @jenn1 I added it to my home page. Squats are hard on my arthritic knees.

    Forgot the basics

I am only 4 weeks out, and sometimes find myself forgetting I am sleeved and take too big of a bite, or forget to eat my snack. It's kinda weird sometimes.
  17. Honestly with two weeks pre-op, you could have JUST turkey, because it is protein and it would not harm a thing since it would be day two and not day 13. Don't do carb foods though.....I am not advocating going against the plan, but I ate tuna during mine or I feared I would faint every day, and did have to sit down from dizziness many times and a couple ounces helped sooo much. And my food choices were exactly the same as yours. But I'm all for hanging in there and getting it done. Good luck future sleever!

    Feeling hopeless

Yes, I wanted to kick the scale this morning too!!!! I am 4 weeks out and have lost 13 pounds, of course I want 25 - right? I did lose 23 pre-op. But I lost 6 whopping inches from my waist and my capris are falling off my slightly less fat ass.... <grin> I hope you took your measurements when you started this journey. Sometimes our bodies rearrange and lots of inches fall off when the weight loss slows or stops in a stall. Hang in there!

    Turkey vs Human

I'm going to let my sleeve guide my intake. I know I am a newly sleeved person navigating virgin territory but at the moment I really don't feel panic-y over food sitting in front of me. And since I am the hostess most of the season I really don't have time to graze on the actual holiday food. As the preparer of pies, bread, toffee, cookies, and the meals I get tired of looking at it, handling it, etc. And then cleaning it up too. By the time turkey is on the table, I really want a nap. The cookies (8 kinds), toffee, fudge goes to family and friends. When I had a career I would spend 3 days making it all and taking it in to share at work - I made a ton of it it seems and then a ton more for the family. (So only 1 ton this year), but I am paring it down to 4 kinds of cookies, white chocolate pretzels and no fudge - I threw 75% of the fudge away last year because they prefered the toffee. I am probably a little more concerned with the 9 day cruise in February when I will be 4 months out, and not preparing my own food. But I will battle that later.

What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?

You could be right about the carb craving driving a lot of it. Teenagers aren't very cooperative about taking a lunch from home either, they don't want to look different from everyone else. I was just reading something interesting about commercial bread and digestion of bread. I don't remember the site, but the take away was that the process now doesn't allow for proper fermentation of the yeasts and that messes up the gut. When true yeasts were kept going via starters, and real grains were used bread was digestible.

Welcome to the sleeved side. Rest and sip sip sip.

    No change in hunger

No, listen those intestinal noises are gas and air. You could hear mine across the room. And you will not feel restriction until you get to real food, more dense food. Trust me it will happen. And protein shakes for me were terribly constipating, keep that in mind. Drink as much water/tea as possible at this stage, thick shakes do not count for fluid, you still need fluid because your stomach and intestines will draw water digesting the protein in the shakes. Acid reflux feels a little different now, ask your doc what to try for acid reflux and see if it makes a difference.
  24. Oh no, poor dear. Make sure you rest this next 2 weeks.
  25. @Apple203 Nothing is wrong we have to stop labeling ourselves as good or bad, wrong or on-program - this sets up feeling bad about ourselves and food. I hope to get to the point where I don't fear food. I plan to eat great food and leave the not great food alone - no oreos, etc. Skip the fries, heck I already really don't care for fast food. Mostly nutritious food, and 10% of anything I really want - no franken food.
