Insurance denied me 1 week before surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to saltykisses's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't really give the exact reason for denial, or insurance criteria for coverage in your post. Elaborate please and what insurance - work provided, state provided, ACA, etc. I am happy you lined up an alternative solution, just research the surgeon so you know what you are dealing with, also if there are complications from the vsg, your insurance may not cover that and you could have a huge out-of-pocket outlay afterwards. Just be informed. Good luck. -
I don't know about baratric cookbooks. I love 'Asian Grilling' by Su Mei-Yu. I think any cookbook that has sections on cooking meat, fish, chicken and seafood could be adapted.

While this study may have some validity, the old 'correlation is not causation' mantra needs to be applied. What I read in your post and not the entire study was ' mainly dairy and cereal for breakfast' and to me that indicates they know nothing about nutrition because that is a poor breakfast indeed. And exactly what are there other habits? Coffee and danish at 10AM, for bf #2? Fast food at lunch? If the study only examines whether they ate bf and not what they eat all day, it is worthless. Also do they eat all the way up to bedtime? I do however believe eating breakfast wakes up your metabolism and is important. I also believe there is a relationship between being hungry and needing bf if you have had enough fasting hours and sleep prior to waking up.

I'd love to see the commercial for the sleeve as a cure for ED, that would be a hoot....lol Yeah, safe monogamous sex is the only way to go...scary sad chit out there and drug resistant dieases are already here and multiplying fast. Now there is a research job needed - working to mutate vd so it kills itself and can't replicate.

Anyone get busted lying about their surgery?
Sosewsue61 replied to VSGnewguy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't even know why this topic has to become a point to argue over on here. I can't see the purpose in being haughty or making anyone feel anything but supported in whichever position - 'tell all, tell some, not tell' they make. After all just like every dietary plan is different, every person has specific situations that lead to the choice of telling or not. -

Sleeve and Nissen to RNY
Sosewsue61 replied to Lisa Roberts's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There were some entries on ObesityHelp regarding NF and revisions to RNY from 2012, but it seemed rare to have a sleeve the NF, then RNY and not many experienced surgeons do it at all? Good luck. -
The boredom is real, also my interest in food was kind of just blah at that point. I cooked vegetables (mushrooms, celery, carrots, peas etc) and garlic in my chicken or beef bone broth and threw in a tablespoon of mild marinara - strained the veggies out and sipped away - such a nice change from plain broth. It worked for me. I could barely tolerate thick sweet shakes after surgery so I also switched to ready-made Isopure punch/ blue raspberry clear protein - it is tart and mixed half and half with a glass of crystal light was easier than sweet.

5 days after surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to chick72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Staying hydrated is very crucial. I switched to clear protein drinks, could barely tolerate thick shakes after surgery. I consumed bone broth and Isopure ready-made protein drinks in blue raspberry and punch half and half with crystal light and water. Drink lots of other liquids in between and at this stage don't worry much about that 30-60 minute rule between liquids and protein drinks - you will need that rile for more semi-solid/solid foods. The name of the game at this stage is to work toward the 64 fluid ounces and aim for 60gr of protein. -
The only thing I would add is I thought the six month program was going to take forever - but it went fast - all the appointments, and tests made it go quickly and I needed to examine my relationship with food and learn to not turn to it during stressful times. There are some good books by Geneen Roth on eating and worth going to the library to check out. Good luck. And this surgery helps a lot but it also takes mental challenges and physical and emotional ones as well.

This liquid diet is making me more hungry
Sosewsue61 replied to 50+ssallday's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Are you tolerating the protein drinks, are you able to drink well without pain or nausea? You have to be able to do both before introducing anything new. Just my 2 cents, but I doubt you could consume so much of anything pureed to cause problems - but if you are determined to try - only do half a teaspoon of something super blended - no seeds or skins or strings in some thinned soup. Maybe split pea soup blended and thinned down with bone broth Could try half teaspoon of a baked sweet potato, or butternut squash soup. Everyones plan is different and everyones tolerance is different too. SF chocolate pudding made me want to barf, I may never eat it again! Cream of asparagus blended was sooo much better. Just go really really slow, half teaspoon and wait 5 minutes. Everyone gets sick of the stages and it seems to take forever and a day to get through them, but it does go faster and get better after the first 2 weeks. Just make sure to get the protein and liquids in, watch your skin for signs of dehydration - really wrinkled on top of the hand when you pinch the skin and not peeing much, darker pee. It is so hard to then take enough liquid in to get caught up. I found the whey protein drinks terribly constipating and that I had to drink a lot of liquids to make up for that. Hang in there. -
Sleeved 11/28.....4 days post op
Sosewsue61 replied to ashrn80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very very important to push liquids these first few days rather than the protein. It is super easy to get dehydrated and once you do it is hard to remedy. Sip constantly - warm tea, sf popsicles, crystal light, broth, anything. I could not tolerate sweet shakes and went to ready-made Isopure punch or blue raspberry mixed with half crystal light. Hunger is usually acid reflux, if one med isn't working call your surgeon's office and see if something else will work better. Sometimes your stomach is just 'empty' and that might be a new sensation to you, also your gut will be very noisy. You will be bloated and maybe even gain a pound or two, stay off the scale - yeah it's exciting but it will be all over the map these first weeks. Walk and walk and walk. Then nap. You will be soo tired but not realize it until you hit a wall and nearly zap out or cry. Use a heating pad on your insicions or back. You will feel cold. I am still cold, I heard it could be that way for a long time. You will not feel restriction until you get to more solid food, so don't be alarmed if you don't get that full feeling, just keep following the plan. Welcome. -
Wow to you both dudes!!!!

Surgery Scares...how many do YOU have and how much of them vanish
Sosewsue61 replied to Tanyatata's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
5 - 4 tiny and 1 larger and they fade pretty fast. You can only see 2 of them well plus a huge bruise almost gone. Besides I will likely have worse ones in the end after plastics - these are nothing... -

First day home - who can relate?
Sosewsue61 replied to YummyMummy303's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Warm tea sometimes goes down easier, or sf popsicles alternating rather than a thick smoothie. Yes early sipping was like swallowing aquarium gravel!!! It gets better. I am five weeks out and can take a good slug of liquid now. I could not tolerate sweet things after surgery and drank ready-made Isopure half and half with crystal light and it is clear, not thick. Use a heating pad on your insicions and walk and walk, wear comfy pants. You will belch and fart for awhile and your gut will be loud. It all improves greatly after the first couple weeks for the majority. Welcome to the 'other side' and good luck. -
What? Sexting?? Is this really what there is to look forward to?
Sosewsue61 replied to 336Mike's topic in The Lounge
About the jail thing.....people misrepresent themselves online all the time. There are fake pictures of underage people that get circulated instead of the 'real person' and once your info is out there you can get pictures on your phone and computer that are compromising and not solicited because you already made contact and accepted. Plus viruses that put backdoors to your info that you will not even know are there. Naked pictures are porn and online is not private. What you do offline is one thing, what you do online is a whole different ballgame people. -
On the Fence about Weight Loss Surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to MissLindseyR's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been obese as an adult for 40 years, and that's a long time. I could lose weight but keeping it off was a huge issue. I am fairly active, I square dance, raise 2 grand kids, and live in a tri-level house. I am self conscious about my size AND grateful my body has held me up, delivered my kids and kept me going. It would be easier at a lower weight. I want to be able to do things that excess weight will not allow. I can dress up and look great, but all that is not going to allow me to get up off the floor without struggling and holding onto something while looking ridiculous as well. I wish this surgery had been an option a long time ago, I looked into the lap-band 10 years ago and it wasn't for me. A couple of friends my age died early this year and I had the 'man, life is just too short' and it's time to 'fish or cut bait' moments. And here I am 5 weeks after the sleeve and so so happy with it. I am not hungry, nor desiring food. I get an 'empty' stomach feeling when I need to eat, but that's a physical need and not an addicted thing. Food tastes good but I don't eat something and say - I want the whole thing and keep going. I get satisfied and quit. It's very weird sometimes. Fear can hold you back and play the weirdest mind games. I would examine those motives closely and get honest. Good luck. -

Be careful, sending/receiving naked pictures can land you in jail. I would dump this person immediately and delete them, and get your number changed - I'm serious. If you still want to pursue the online thing this way - get a burner phone. Join something - hiking group, conservation group, etc. I don't know all of your interests so it's hard to recommend a lot. Dance lessons, IDK Don't give up... -

Keeping Plastic Surgery a Secret
Sosewsue61 replied to 23571113's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Ok this may sound annoying, but plastic surgery IS to make you look better, so some changes will be noticeable but probably swelling will not make it so drastic in the beginning. I have read that there are good products for scars that really improve them if you use them consistently as soon as you can. Just tell them you are wearing a back support/waist trainer and working out. You have already lost weight and made changes to your appearance already so more changes won't seem odd (unless you acquired this job after losing it all).
