  1. Telling depends on a big risk of the unknown opinions of people that probably have very differing personalities, backgrounds, baggage, chaos of their own that you know nothing about - it is unlikely to find much support in that stew. Work is work and nothing more (rinse, repeat). The only thing a supervisor needs to know is that you are having a medical procedure that requires medical leave and that is it - there are privacy laws for a good reason. Do not look to co-workers for support or validation - get that from people that genuinely love you and have your interests at heart. Good luck.

    130 pounds lost - 11 months

You are a cutie to begin with but what a transformation!

Is this really going to work?!?!

Isopure ready-made blue raspberry mixed half and half w crystal light lemonade. Bone broth from Walmart has 7gr protein in a cup - I sautéed veggies in it and strained them out, a nice change from sweet stuff. Hang in there.

    On the go foods

Ready-made chicken salad in the same aisle as the tuna packets. Yogurt. Take shakes and a thermal cup - don't get dehydrated - that would be worse than not getting food - and you just can't get caught up easily once that happens. Keep egg salad in your hotel fridge, refried beans to microwave w some cheese - could buy a chicken burrito and just eat the insides.
  5. I'm 62, had the sleeve on 10/24/17 and no issues recovering. The dry mouth is awful right after surgery and sipping is hard at first due to swelling but it improves quickly after that. Use biotene mouth swabs. For nausea ask the anesthesiologist to give you a scopolamine patch before surgery - works like a charm. For pain ask for acetaminophen 1000mg in the IV - I would have called anyone a liar if they told me tylenol would work that well but it really did. You will be tired for about 4 weeks and the biggest hurdle is getting enough fluids - stay on top of that from the beginning. Sometimes you can be confused about the difference between acid reflux, hunger pangs and an empty stomach - acid reflux can feel like hunger. Good luck - and see you on the other side.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Yeah well, I am happy most of you are content to be where you are in your weight loss, it's awesome. However, I am not - not that that changes anything.....I have 'only' lost 19#s since surgery 10/24 and in my mind that sucks. I could do that well on Weight Watchers. The scale has not moved in over 4 weeks and this is not helping my depression - which in the winter is the worst anyway. I am sure my NUT will not be happy either in 2 weeks when I see her. My lab tests are ok. Yes this is out and out whining, b!tchin' and moaning!!! I can't pretend. I don't care about eating or food - which is good in many ways, I can tell when my stomach is empty and that I NEED to eat but I find it boring, uninspiring to do so....I am going to try adding protein drinks (blech) back in and see what transpires....
  8. Holy smoking hot woman!!! Congrats!!!
  9. For me after surgery food is just not appealing and even smelling food does very little for me, I crave absolutely nothing - seriously. I have tried things thinking - oh I want that, but a couple bites later it's nah....it's okay but I don't want it. And it is a very weird thing to adjust to sometimes - forcing yourself to eat...

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Well. I am not losing and p!ssed as hell about it, I know - don't compare, wait, be patient - still p!ssed off. So there it is......😛
  11. I am 8 weeks out today.💖 And I am having trouble deciding to join a gym. When I worked and was losing weight before, I loved going to the gym in the same city I worked in, used the treadmill, stationary bike, and weight machines and it felt great. I also walked during lunch with friends. My life right now as a noncareer person consists of raising two grandkids age 7 and 10 full time and square dancing a few times a month, living in a tri-level house doing chit-ton of laundry, and housework. (Also my husband is retired and home a lot.)I live on 10 acres 2.5 miles from a small town with a gym, and 10 miles from Anytime Fitness. My adult daughters think I should get a treadmill, (I really don't have room, of course they would say sell your longarm quilt machine - not happening) and it would not help with much muscle building anyway which I think I need at age 62. Our small gym has enough equipment to satisfy anyone, plus 10 free fitness classes a week, yoga, showers, etc for about $360/year. Anytime Fitness would be closer to $480, I think. So I don't know if 'I can fall in love' with the gym again....
  12. My NUT is pleasant but I can tell she is just doing her job, all she wants is a record to put into her computer that shows she is doing her job. She offers standard advice but has NO idea how to really assist a wls patient on this journey. Also she is on the 'low fat' bandwagon despite new evidence to the contrary on full fat dairy, etc. - seriously quibbling on 2% and skim milk is the least of a patient's issues. She puts in her 15 minutes with me and that is it, at the group mtg she was barely paying attention - was chatting with another staff person - however the psychologist was fabulous at caring and it shows.

What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?

@Irisbramble 700-800 calories a day for life is starvation, and you will see those effects in a short amount of time. No one should exist on so little nutrition, this will shut your metabolism down as much as being obese will. You need to gradually increase the calories, and eat some vegetable carbs at least. Have you tried fish or black beans? I cannot tolerate white meat chicken but baked or grilled thighs are okay, ground turkey is okay too. Try small pieces of meat cooked in soups rather than junky side dishes (exactly what sides are you consuming)

    Moving bowels

Anesthetic sort of puts your intestines to sleep and it takes awhile to be regular again, but you should go at least some about every 3 days. Take a stool softener like colace or miralax and lots of water.

    Gas still???? Surgery was 12/12

It took me a good month to not sound like a fog horn across the pond. And be mindful of large bites and gulping as it adds to the issue. Protein shakes also added to the problem for me, when you can take in a little more vegetables w fiber it will help. Sometimes my digestion is still loud though.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

This is definitely weird. The scale is stuck but I am losing inches somewhete because I can fit into 95% of the smallest size stash of capris in my closet - regular 14's. I haven't worn them in 8 years. I don't care, it's -2 and I am wearing them around the house today.💖

    Post-breakfast fatigue question

I don't understand surgeons with this three meals a day only thing because you cannot possibly ingest 20gr at one sitting this early out unless you are using protein drinks in between. Your energy is drained because you just had major surgery - do NOT skip breakfast or you will be worse by 3pm. I would have to go against my surgeon on your plan - 6 planned meals is not considered grazing. I cannot eat 20gr at one sitting, at one meal I can only manage 3oz of dense protein, and two bites of vegetables and I am 11 weeks out. Good luck with going back to work, make sure to carry water with you constantly.
  19. Sosewsue61

When am I able to eat Fruit?

If you get all your protein grams in, then a veg, then a fruit...I had some canned pears at your stage. Some people wait because of the high sugar content, ask your NUT
  20. You look great, congrats!

    Christmas Round-Up

Lol...I got a new sewing machine to keep me out of the kitchen.....

    Any regrets??

    No regrets.

    I'm So Bad!!

So you want a beating or absolution?
  24. Pillow to hold against your stomach in the car to get in and out after your release (buffer the seatbelt). Slippers. Biotene mouth swabs - your mouth will be dry as dust after surgery. Ask for a scopolamine patch behind your ear for nausea - the anesthesiologist can put one one just before surgery, it lasts 3 days. For pain meds after ask for 1000mg acetaminophen in your IV, it's magic - I didn't believe it until they told me, I didn't need anything stronger than that but one time. Good luck.
