Impatient and nervous
Sosewsue61 replied to Stephani.Kline's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was irritated at waiting 6 months as well, but it went fast and I, too found it valuable to examine my relationship with food and to gradually dial down the simple carb consumption, stop drinking diet soda, wean off high caffeine intake, and re-learn to journal. Good luck. -
Get some counseling for yourself. I am confused about using your daughter's illness as a reason for you to overeat yourself, that does not sound as if a physician would give that treatment advice. More information please.

Unhappy with A Lighter Me (ALM) & Dr. Elias Ortiz

Why are you not getting tests to discover what is still going on in the US now that you are back home? Go to an ER and get tested. -
My gut is PISSED OFF! 2 month old newbie needs help! Offer some keto guidelines?
Sosewsue61 replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I did some reading, the liver has to compensate for the lack of bile no longer produced by the absent gallbladder and supplements may be needed to assist that digestive process. You will need to do some research and trial and error to find what and how much to take. It does seem that tolerating dairy is trickier to manage. Good luck. -

Just an observation, as I have no actual experience in your situation, if meat based fats are tolerable, it sounds like lactose intolerance maybe? Have you tried taking some pre-/probiotics? Have you been tested for gut bacteria or h pylori bacteria? The gut is a fascinating, complex, and annoying organ. If you are worried about getting enough fat to do keto there is coconut oil, avocado, etc. I realize this doesn't let you have beloved yummy dairy for the moment but maybe after you get some probiotics for a few months you will be able to tolerate dairy better. -
Ok. So I ate half the meat on the skewer, 3 bites of broccoli and tried 2 bites of rice....seriously the rice was probably not advised, it's a little stuck right now. (This is an 8" salad plate)

Not laughing at you, but with you - love cranky sarcasm....😘 Hang in there buddy. -
Dinner today will be Korean barbecued beef on skewers. Garlic, ginger, sesame seeds, cayenne, black pepper, sugar, lemon juice, soy sauce and sesame oil marinade. Served on lettuce w a side of steamed fresh broccoli and carrots. I might make jasmine rice for the family.

Phase 4 weight loss stopped/
Sosewsue61 replied to hard2doover's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Calm down...it's the '3 week stall' - just put that in the search box. I have been stalled for a month with no scale movement - losing inches and clothing sizes - but not #s. I admit to being pissed about it, but figure it is part of the process. You digestion is adjusting, as well as your body, and you are still in the early stages of healing internally too. 6-8 ounces of protein at one sitting? Or the whole day? -
This is exactly my attitude as well. No 3rd rate food because why bother? I bought a case of heirloom oranges, they are only available at this short season of year and I have one a day. I intend to be very picky - no prefab food, if I can help it - traveling sometimes leads to compromises. Good luck.

The first few weeks drinking any liquid has to be slow and careful, you are healing and this takes time. I am nearly 3 months out and can take pretty good sized gulps now. Prior to surgery, I really worried about how in the heck will I eat without drinking liquids? - but it was mostly all in my head, it's not that big of a deal, and I drink up to 15 minutes before eating solid food. The first few weeks before solids don't worry about that rule of waiting - you will need every ounce of liquids you can get down. I had one sip of champagne on NYE and it was fine. I also had half a glass of wine a week ago and it was also fine. I am however not much of a drinker anyway, and it isn't a lifestyle to aspire to when getting healthy is your goal. YOU have to decide what is most important to your well being - food and alcohol or the chance to have a healthy body that will support you for years to come. We all have the fear of the unknown, don't let that keep you from making important decisions.

Oh sweetie, so sorry for all your suffering (((hugs))). Go to your primary care doctor if you can't get your surgeon to hear what you are saying about these issues. Best of luck hang in there... -

Struggling with aversion
Sosewsue61 replied to Real California April's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Drink some regular milk then. Maybe some medication for anxiety. And get some counseling. -
Log into your insurance portal and email them (written record) specific questions. What type of documentation is required to prove 12 months medically supervised weight loss program, how much if any weight loss is required, what happens if I gain a pound one month but have a net loss ovetall, do I need to submit an exercise log, do I need a nutritionist to submit a food log, etc. Get very specific. They have to answer written questions in writing. Then have your physician appeal the ruling.

I agree with @FluffyChix 99.999%. If you remove the words 'diet', 'A DIET', 'lifestyle/lifestyle changes' and just present the outline, it is still a rose. My NUT said that I would be basically doing low carb high protein Atkins style FOREVER. 'Normal weight' individuals do not live and breathe their lives by weighing food, not buying certain food, journaling, planning, avoiding cheetos and chocolate cake. It might at some point become second nature to do these things for some, but I have my doubts the percentages are high on that stat. But hey, if it makes anyone feel better to rename it, then go ahead.

Bad breakup and weight loss
Sosewsue61 replied to DianeJarrett's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sorry for your breakup. Sometimes you just can't find the reason as it's happening. I hope you find a new job and make new friends. Keep going strong. -
Yay for you!!!! (I have been stalled for 4 weeks....hopefully soon it will drop)
-
Wow...congrats!! Woohoo!! Bells ringing!!!

I agree w @OutsideMatchInside on the cost, you can even shop sales at an actual vitamin store and come out cheaper than bariatric vitamins and I hate mine anyway - Celebrate chewables make me nauseated, can't wait until they are gone. My NUT insisted I buy them. I have taken supplements for years - D3, B-12, folic acid, magnesium for leg cramps, fish oil and a reg multivitamin. My first labs are fine and i only took the Celebrate half the time.

Foaming/sliming is pretty normal, it does happen less after a time, but can reappear when you eat too fast or take too large of a swallow of food. You will learn what works through trial n error. I still cannot eat chicken breast, it just will not go down and then foamies and up it comes - spitup.

58 and getting gastric sleeve surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to Gundy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Gundy if you have symptoms ask for a PPI like omeprazole. Some docs automatically put their patients on it for the first 6 months. And there are diff brands - some people have to try a couple to find one that works the best. A 'gnawing' feeling can resemble hunger but is reflux instead. However, not everyone gets reflux. I have very little reflux. -
Most of us felt the same way you do, doubts and all right before surgery. We are all going to age regardless of wls, the skin is already damaged - it's just filled with fat right now, so you can't see the wrinkles and that fat is causing more damage to your joints, heart, causing inflammation everywhere, making it hard to be active, and it will not improve without drastic measures. The surgery helps so much - I do not crave anything and have good restriction and that will help me keep off what I do lose. It is still as much a mental game as ever, but at least I have greater odds of keeping the success by having wls. Good luck. Stay determined.

It's IV fluids, inflammation from surgery and your body trying to start the healing process - I was up 5#s after surgery, just keep pushing fluids and it will work itself out.
