    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

My hair is thinning anyway from age <sigh>, but no additional loss yet (crossing fingers and every body part), it usually grows fast - I have taken an extra folic acid for years now, but added the biotin 6 months before surgery, have taken multi and supplements for years, and now massage peppermint oil on my scalp. The peppermint oil is supposed to stimulate the folicles as well as rogaine according to a gov study - take it for what it's worth, I figure it can't hurt at any rate. Also I am a slow loser. If it works, great, if not I did my best to stem the tide.

    Restless sleeping

I am prone to severe leg cramps, and sometimes have rls along with them. I take Triple Calm magnesium and it helps so much with the leg cramps. I do have to make sure I get enough sleep and extra fluids, as both those issues make leg cramps more likely.
  4. You are incredible. Such rewarding hard work you have done, congrats!

What was for breakfast this morning?

One egg, over easy, 1oz Jimmy dean sage sausage.
  6. I am not 6mos out. I am 3mos out and can eat 1000 calories. In my experience that 600-800 would have me feeling exhausted at this point, I feel great, I am losing slower than I would like but we are all different and we all have to figure out the best plan that has balance, and it will be different for each one of us - the factors are many - age, how long we have been overweight, our medical issues, our mobility or how quickly we can increase our activity, compliance with food choices, etc. Take each stage as it comes and don't stress about the one ahead of you, learn about yourself on this road to improved health. Try out different routes until you have the plan in place that works for you - of course follow your medical staff's advice as much as you can while making it your own. Be accountable to yourself.
  7. Well yes and no. Your gut is just waking up, you still have inflammation and swelling from major surgery so expect some minor setbacks along the way. You could be really lucky and breeze through this, good for you. And there can be some real exhaustion because you cannot ingest enough nutrition these first few weeks - you can be doing fine for several hours and then - bam! - you are just done, you have to take a nap. You could also have some adjustments when advancing to each food stage. As far as being active, I didn't have any issue at all in that area - just don't lift anything until cleared for that, bend carefully, guard against bumping or falling - but walk daily. Welcome to the other side.
  8. Ask for an entire program outline, month one, month two, etc. Ask for what will be your program during all phases pre and post op. I would have a conversation with the surgeon's office manager if this is a continuing issue. Is there a Pysch consult? Bring this to his/her attention. I was given gradual guidelines - like start tracking food with a free app (Baritastic), cut back on soda, then quit all soda, stop all sugar drinks, gradually wean off caffeine, aim for 60grams of protein daily and 64oz of liquids, etc.... This was a series of changes over 6 months....also an activity log had to be kept for insurance. Try substituting sugar free pudding or popsicles for candy/sweets. Buy seasonal fruit - oranges are great right now or frozen berries. Have one individually wrapped piece of really expensive smooth chocolate daily - tell yourself that only the best will do, and have just one. Don't aim for cold turkey deprivation - you will only break that rule, do this gradually.

Have to lose weight before surgery?

I don't understand the fear of losing weight? Do you have an eating disorder or the fear of getting one? Is the doctor prescribing an extreme diet? Does insurance require this weight loss or just the surgeon? You don't have stats in your profile, so I can't tell what percentage 11lbs would be. Give some background, are you diabetic, have pcos, or thyroid issues, you don't state what methods you have tried, or whether you have been in any program before and what results. It's difficult to give any tips/advice with so little information. Do you want help or just to vent?

FROM SIZE 14/16 to 4/6 10 mo. Post Op

    Woohoo!! Congrats!
  11. If multivitamin has iron, it interferes with calcium absorption - so the need to take calcium separate from the multi. As soon as you can swallow pills my NUT says Centrum Silver Womens 50+ taken 2x/day is good (cheaper too) and with a B1 and calcium citrate. Celebrate chewable vitamins made me horribly nauseated - I had to chew them with a spoonful of peanut butter and even then it was a chore.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Went shopping for clothes yesterday for a cruise vacation, scale not moving but in XL tops and 14 bottoms, that is crazy good to me. I am going to evaluate my food choices and see if I need to tweak things to get the scale moving too. I did break down and join the gym. My stomach hangs terrible low now, oh well I knew plastic surgery was in the future anyway. I have wrinkles more noticeable as well, can't be 18 again lol!!!!

    My Head Hunger Rant

I don't see how 1000/day is maintenance? That is dieting, imo. Unless the person is immobile, then perhaps.
  14. You are still healing and swollen. Be very careful. Likely the extra moving around has shifted fluid. It's good you took in your 64oz fluids though. Take one day at a time and listen to your healing body. Also moving your bowels at this time can be tricky and exercise and fluid helps that too - that can cause odd feelings as well though as everything wakes back up after anesthetic. Being regular in that function may take a few weeks and especially as you transition to solids. Good luck.

    Tummy tuck quote

When the time comes for plastics, I am strongly condiderin Dr. Peter Fisher in San Antonio, he has a hip-flap technique that I like for the abdominoplasty/LBL. Of course I will do more research. I do however like the work I see from Dr. Carmina Cardenas in Mexico.

    It’s NOT a DIET!

My NUT is a lowfat textbook nutritionist basically. This bariatric office is only a year old and while the physician is an accomplished surgeon the staff is fairly young and inexperienced with this genre of patients, in my opinion. I just emailed last week and basically received no suggestions as to breaking my month long stall. Also I was not impressed by the group meetings - I kept asking 6 months prior to surgery and never received the information on them until the month of surgery. I went once and there was no interactions with each other - there were 2 testimonials from RNY success stories, nothing for GS and no discussions amongst attendees. And at that mtg the NUT was more interested in whispering to a colleague while the Psych led the program. He was VERY enthusiastic and engaged. I will try again in March, I have a conflict in February.

    Huge Appetite...Small Stomach

1ounce in tiny tiny bites at a time, bite, chew, swallow, wait a couple minutes, another bite, and wait five minutes, try one more bite. Start with chicken or tuna salad, cottage cheese, maybe scrambled eggs. Refried beans and a little melted cheese. Solid protein should be moistened or cooked in soup/broth, etc. Beef can be tough to digest, so try chicken thighs, soft white fish.

    Bariatric Vitamins

After the sleeve, carbonate doesn't absorb as easily as citrate. Some controversy on B12 dosage - B vitamins are water soluble, so not as likely to get toxic levels, but some do have issues w high doses, do your own research. Also some healthcare professionals are very biased about vitamin brands and efficacy altogether on vitamins.

    Constipation advice?

Teaspoon coconut oil in warm tea. Smooth move tea. Magnesium supplement at night. Suppositories.
  22. Sosewsue61

    Spinal Morphine

Oh hell no. For the surgery or after? Ask for propofol for the surgery, it takes effect easy, and wears off about 30 minutes after last administration. And ask for a scopolamine patch juat before anesthetic - so you won't get nausea. For afterwards - acetaminophen in an IV - 1000mg

    What happens if you overeat?

Stuck food feeling in esophagus, slime backing up into throat, then puking - not actual projectile vomiting, more like spitup and slime until enough comes up to relieve the feeling. When I am full, I mainly get a runny nose. Sometimes hiccups and rarely sneezing. I cannot tolerate white meat chicken, thighs yes. Pork chops need to be moist. I have not tried pasta. I just tried 2 bites of rice last night and it wasn't horrid but wasn't something I want to do again soon. Rye toasted is okay when I have an over easy egg.
  24. You will not feel restriction until you eat semi/semi-solid foods. I seriously do not understand the NO protein drinks the first week. You could have had clear protein drinks after 2 days of tolerating broth and tea, but anyway be aware of constipation issues with protein drinks and no fiber. Your intestines take awhile after anesthetic to be active and to get moving well, you may need stool softeners or Miralax. Continue to increase fluids in between the protein drinks. Good luck.
