  1. Go on on over to another forum and look up Tinman. https://www.gastricsleeve.com He is a seasoned sleever that loves margaritas.
  2. Yep, what James said. Also take measurements, sometimes that darn scale won't move but inches disappear while your body adjusts. Use a free app like Baritastic to journal food. Make a list of why you want the surgery, so when you get frustrated you can refer back to it - like - get off medication, walk up stairs without being winded, fit into lawn chairs, tie my shoes without falling on my ass - that sort of thing.

    Post-op and miserable

It's gas in the abdominable cavity from anesthetic and air they pump in there so they can see around the organs. WALKING and more walking will get rid of it. You also have inflammation from surgery causing pain - take the liquid tylenol and take the pain meds, it will ease up in the next week or two. Exhaustion is from not enough fluid and nutrition - push liquids every 15 minutes - this also gets easier - try warm liquid like tea and alternate with sf popsicles. Hang in there. GERD medicine varies, it may take trying different brands/amounts to find what works for you - also once swelling goes down this should ease as well. Be patient, nap, walk, read, be kind to yourself....hang in there
  4. It isn't like a lightning bolt that gets you from 'eh' to damn I'm doing it wahoo! It is slow contemplation and examining your relationship with food and yourself. I could lose weight, have lost 30, 50, 70 lbs over and over, it will be easier to KEEP it off with the surgically smaller stomach. Good luck.

Side Effects of Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Cashews for constipation!!! (lol) And not much else, there are learning curves and adjustments in the beginning - belching, farting, learning portions, minor food aversions, exhaustion, etc. It varies and changes as you progress. True complications are rare - but you can look that up. Major side effects are usually GERD and strictures and this is not predictable as to who gets these.
  6. Liquids and cream of wheat etc are not dense food - highly processed predigested substances go right through. You need to concentrate on getting 64 oz of fluids and 60gr of protein in daily. And next time your dr says go get checked - go get checked!!

    Some feedback from others??

Ash, you are fine and on target. I was protein shake averted as well. Try clear like ready-made Isopure punch or blue raspberry mixed half n half with crystal light lemonade. For puree - try chicken or tuna salad or blended cream soup with chicken. I still cannot tolerate chicken breast - I have to do thigh minced. I had to take naps because i would suddenly hit a wall - bam - exhausted. It gets better in a month and is directly related to not enough calories, drink a glass of milk, get an ounce of tuna salad into you when you get tired, it makes a huge difference. And puree is not solid food so don't worry about restriction until solid or semi solid food. You might tolerate mild baked white fish. Hang in there, it gets better.

    Thinking About Gastric Sleeve

Go for it. Use the prep time to evaluate your relationship w food and start cuttig out soda, caffeine and sugar. Attempt hi protein liw carb changes, do these a month at a time by working with your pcp or nutritionist, see a psych for consultation on the changes you need to make.
  9. LOL...not bipolar but you are a stitch today.💖 (I have granddaughters that are Scouts, so I have to buy cookies!!) ( I am sailing to the Western Caribbean on Feb 2 for 9 nights - It is a square dance cruise so I will be dancing my arss off along with the wild sex.) (Those pants don't lie either!!! )
  10. I ordered 8 boxes of girl scout cookies and drank some diet coke with my cheese snack. I am taking all my sex toys on the cruise so the cat/house sitter won't riffle through a 'goody drawer' and find them when I'm on vacation. I wear size 12 jeans from AE. I bought $600 worth of new clothes last week.....👖👗👠🏝👚👕👡

    Feeling guilty about eating

Eating is necessary and normal, don't feel guilty for eating. Be kind to yourself.

    Before and After

Love yourself no matter your weight, you are a valuable person no matter the size. You are healthier now and taking more care to improve. Way to go for the effort on this journey.

    My Journey

The new you doesn't even look like the former you!! Awesome dude!

    My experience so far

They cut it w sugar for more profits. I'm not arguing the effect of the chemical properties of food, that is a component of food, yes. I am making a case that food/drugs/xyz is not the initial problem. It is to escape the feelings/situation etc - the root cause of the addiction in the first place.

    My experience so far

With addictions, it is never the substance that is the issue, it's just the vehicle to numbing whatever you aren't facing. I can't speak to what that particular set of issues are, as it is as varied as we are - but often we feel like we are never good enough, or always waiting for that future perfection when everything will finally be okay to live the way we want to or be accepted for our true selves. It is a deep painful issue rooted in childhood oftentimes.
  16. Constipation issue? Your intestines can take awhile to recover from anesthetic and be very slow moving all of the waste out even if you are moving some of it. Try a stool softener and light belly massage, more walking and a little gentle stretching leg lifts.
  17. Good luck! Take it each day as it comes, there will be changes and challenges, it's just beginning!

Blurred vision & major dry mouth

Dehydration and anesthetic can both cause blurred vision. Ask for mouth swabs, biotene spray, etc. And sip every couple of minutes all day. It sucks but it goes away after the first week. (Then you get farting, belching, and loud digestive noises and a host of other fun things lol)

    2 days Pot Op

Fluid goals first, then protein because getting dehydrated is seriously harmful and you just cannot get caught up on your own once you are in it. I also keep an insulated cup on my nightstand and drink during the night every night. I found the clear protein drinks easier to get down than the thick shakes - like Isopure ready-made blue raspberry and I would make sf crystal light lemonade and split the Isopure half and half w the lemonade. One 20oz bottle of Isopure is 40grams of protein - pricey but it's only for a couple weeks until you can get solid protein.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

I very much dislike the new layout of the forums. I prefer the different types of surgeries to have the sub-categories within so we can ignore the surgeries we did not have, and eliminate searching through endless topics we do not care to participate in. I am on here way less because of the layout. New people will always be reactionary regardless, and some posters never bother with research - 'Sesame Street Kids' - they want it now and in quick bursts, rinse repeat.

    Exercise and Nutrtional Insurance approval

Once a month for 6 months for nutritionist, and all my insurance required for exercise was a log of my activity - perhaps you could explain that since your insurance doesn't cover these visits - would a daily spreadsheet of activity fulfill the requirement for the surgeon's office. I used my fitbit steps, plus square dancing and hiking. The nutritionist required a log as well and I used the free app Baritastic.
  22. No regrets, actually there are times I can't believe I even had surgery (did I do that!!). I am in a little see-saw stall but dropping inches and mostly feel great. I have a few food aversions but not concerned, I have great restriction and try to respect that but it is still a learning process. Hang in there and learn your body's reaction to the process, be kind to yourself.

    6 months 101 lbs down w/pics

    Fabulous, just fabulous!!!!

    Where has time gone?

Oh my goodness, slow down!!! LOL Just remember to rest and get fluids after surgery because exhaustion and dehydration can really take you for a loop - you can be going along zippity do da and then bam - you are so tired and can't think straight. Good luck.
