Out With the Old--In With the New!
Sosewsue61 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Cruise....left moderate Illinois temps, to hot Miami on Feb 1st and boarded the ship on the 2nd with 60 square dancers and some odd 3300 other passengers for Labadee, Haiti, Curacuo, Bonaire, and Aruba. We danced every night on the ship, and any afternoon while at sea. And we dined together in the same section of the fancy dining hall. Food, I hate to post on FluffyChix's sooo brave thread while on the bastard liquid diet - but I ate a lot of off plan things including desert and wine....but it was bites and not plates and Mr Sue finished what I didn't - he gained 4 pounds (not me), but already lost it....I ate lots of seafood/fish - lobster, snapper, sole, shrimp, scallops, swordfish , soups, I did have sourdough rolls, 3 bites of key lime pie, berry crumble, lemon tart, etc. BF was 3 bites of hubs omelet and some cantalope, lunch was cheese/meat, orchicken some veg. And then the cookies - ugh - coconut ranger cookies and oatmeal raisin...I was not still much, we were sightseeing, walking, dancing, bar hopping on the ship, more dancing, theater, ice show, on the go constantly. ( And lots of scrumping too) Best vacation evah!!! -
Hey @FluffyChix I was gone on a cruise, got home Monday night.

I could tell I needed nutrition, my stomach was empty but absent was the desire to eat and actual pangs. I can still tell that I NEED to eat something, but I can completely forget to eat sometimes. In the early stages this was really weird and hard to manage because you cannot make up for lost time if you miss a meal. I just schedule to eat now and don't really crave anything.

Good luck. During this phase I added veggies to cream soups, extra bone broth, then strained it, the added flavor was def needed. Ricotta came the next week, be careful tastes change after surgery - at least for me. I can barely tolerate chocolate, and def not sf chocolate pudding, who knows why? And at 4 months I cannot tolerate lettuce yet, I tried it last night again and NOPE. And beef has to be super tender/moist, and chicken breast is no too - thighs are ok. Scallops and fish are fine, and at most 2 shrimp. I tried pizza once last Sunday and it's a no as well - the crust just gummed up in the sleeve.....(and then came back up).

How long till incisions fade?
Sosewsue61 replied to VSG_Meow_Bitch's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
4 months out here and they are light red and the bruise near the main one (from removing the stomach) is still faintly there too. But heck I figure in a year the plastic surgery scars will be a bigger concern anyway. -
The weakness is def a sign of needed fluid, salt in broth will help that too. But as soon as you can take in small amounts of real food protein it gets better. Cottage cheese, high protein yogurt like Siggi's will help a lot, even tuna salad makes a huge impact once you get to that stage.

8 Behaviors to Start Next Week to CHANGE
Sosewsue61 replied to Dr. Colleen Long's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Well - the week does start in two days and sometimes you need a day to make a new plan or pick what elements will work for you. Yoga - well even if it's not for everyone, quiet meditation can be valuable. But - yes this was at least 50% shameless book plug. @Creekimp13 - I think you need more sex, you have been cranky lately...😆 -
Do people treat you different now that you're skinny?
Sosewsue61 replied to Marissa37's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@logicwand don't give up on love girl - I got remarried at 42 and nearly gave up just prior to that. We all deserve that connection, your confidence will change during this endeavor and there will be great surprises - long lost personality traits just pop out! -
You have to push fluids because getting dehydrated is really serious. Try a clear protein like Isopure blue raspberry diluted with crystal light lemonade. The thinner consistency will go down easier, carry an insulated bottle with you and a cooler in your car if you travel, take it to all meetings, sip while on the phone, etc. This is your new normal now and you will have more adjustments to come. Also rest when you can because in the early weeks you won't realize how exhausted you are until you just hit that wall and lack of fluids and protein will cause that to happen faster, it's nearly impossible to 'make up' for missed meals because you just can't consume that much. Also try bone broth because it has more protein than regular broth. Good luck. Take care.

Wondering when I can drink alcohol
Sosewsue61 replied to Evelyn Canales's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You just joined an hour ago, and this is your burning concern? Ask your surgeon but i am sure you already know the answer but what the hell ask all the non professionals you want until you get the answer you are looking for. -
Recommendations for Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to Anks's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So..is your insurance through an employer or through other means? If employer, look into changing jobs maybe. Do you live near another state's border - perhaps you could move just over the stateline, etc. Just throwing suggestions out there. You don't give much added information. -
Post Op Sleeve Day 6 RAMEN NOODLES PACKETS
Sosewsue61 replied to deezy16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cooked veggies in liquids and strained them out, added garlic, etc. -
Change PCP and Dr's report to an office manager, after you get a referral I would complain - opinion is not 'science'. Ask the Bariatric surgeon in your plan for a PCP that is supportive. Good luck.
-
Lettuce in salad still gives me trouble, but cucumbers, green pepper strips, etc are fine. I have not tried raw broccoli or anything like that. Stir-fry veggies work great. I can only eat a few bites, I alternate 3 bites of meat, 1 veggie bite....
-
I pureed vegetable soup and strained it - so yummy, also black bean soup.

Husband threatens divorce if I have surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to Copper5's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So sorry for husband's lack of support, he may be worried about the risks, or he may be a bit of a jerk or both. Good luck and make the decision based on your health. Are you doing bypass because of acid reflux? My PCP's nurse had bypass 7yrs ago and she got ulcers in the disconnected stomach portion because it still makes hydrochloric acid but gets no food to use it up with, so you might consider the sleeve instead. And it is difficult to treat that disconnected stomach. Also 2 people in the wls surgery group had iron deficiences and they were bypass patients. At least think about it. I wish you the best. -
Ok. I love my hubs so much but dang it he is giving me fits over dressing up on the cruise.....come on what's the matter with looking nice a few times. This is one vacation where I get to be pampered - we usually do a timeshare where I still cook 3x/day, and have all that that goes with it, I want to doll up and get waited on, some elegance.
-
He did go get a much needed haircut, lol. And I kept telling him - in the main dining room - no jeans (buffet ok, bf you can wear Docker shorts, etc - but he had his man ears on when I told him all this 5 times). The thing is we are also square dancing and at regular dances he dresses for that....it's too funny.... I am sooooo excited we fly tomorrow morning. I have so many new clothes, a lovely dress with lace, new shoes, etc etc. I got my hair highlighted and a crazy glitter pedicure!!!!🛳🏝🏖🌞🎉

What was your favorite food before surgery??
Sosewsue61 replied to 2feelinggreatagain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My downfall was too much food, and some anxiety eating. My favorite foods might still be favorite foods. I have no desire to eat like before, but I refuse to give food the power of being an enemy. I don't want to be 'good' or 'bad'. I liked pasta, but 'meh' not a super favorite and don't want it now at all. I have had a few bites of foods I like a lot, but nothing overboard. It has to be prime quality or I won't try it - no one wants a casserole lol, no one wants store bought cake with nasty shortening frosting. Be picky, be worth it. -
Week 3 Post op...no hunger, hardly eating
Sosewsue61 replied to Belladonna1670's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No not clear liquid 'diet', just less sweet tasting things and sweet shakes. Try creamof chicken soup with pureed chicken thigh in it or some blended tuna salad. Isopure ready-made blue raspberry with half crystal light lemonade is more tart than sweet if you need the protein grams - 20oz Isopure is 40gr of protein. We all get averted of the sweet stuff after surgery. Even just some milk is good when you need something w protein.
