  1. Play the game. Pre-weigh yourself - sneak in the day before and get on the scale, and if you start to lose a little too much, line your pockets with rolls of quarters and put 2lb ankle weights on under your thick jeans, weigh with your shoes on - claim you are too tired to take them off. Get creative, you can do this.

You are not drinking and eating enough, your body is rebelling against weight loss. If you are allowed soda you should be allowed water too, right? Get some syntax nectar and dump in a glass of water, or ready-made Isopure and dump in the cafe glasses. Get a physician's note that says you are deficient in nutrition or dehydrated (vitamins, calcium, whatever) and MUST be allowed to drink YOUR concoction every 3 hours. I feel that if you can sip your clear protein drink you will feel better and start to lose again. Also up your protein grams just a little - to 70-80gr. Push water or crystal light when you drive and are at home. And go to a temp agency and get a better job.....at a hospital, school, office, etc. Good luck.

    I Need Some Serious Help!

Climb down from the ledge!!! Get a grip and throw the crap food in the garbage - pour dishsoap on it. Get out a protein drink and journal your feelings and your daily intake. Stop watching TV with commercials, don't watch cooking shows, don't sit at meal times with the family. You need some introspection - write down all those scary feelings that you aren't good enough to make this a success, the voice in your head that says I'm a big fat failure - banish that evil ****** from your head. Food is just food, not your friend. Repeat that a hundred times. You will eat again, there is no need to panic, there is no famine. Repeat that a hundred times. Give yourself a hug - you had major surgery, you are brave and you can do this. You know exactly what to do. Go to group mtgs, find a buddy, even consider some counseling. You can do this.

    3 days after vsg surgery

What everyone else said - walking, sipping, sleeping, hot showers, heat. It gets better. The rumblings are your intestines waking up from anesthetic - this takes awhile - you could hear mine from across the room!!! Your sleeve will feel empty like this until more solid food is introduced. Main goal is to push fluids all the time because once you get dehydrated it is nearly impossible to get caught up by sipping. Hang in there.

    Gas post op

Walking, walking, walking! And it takes a good 3 weeks to level out entirely - you will sound like an orchestra for awhile! Anesthetic and the air they pump into the abdominal cavity is the cause of the gas pains. Hang in there, it improves daily. Also do not get dehydrated, carry water with you always.

    Resleeved vs rny conversion???

This is such an individual decision. Did you have trouble following the food guidelines the first time? It is possible to reach 160 being sleeved, there are veterans on this forum that make it to goal. The vitamin regimen for rny is more intense and there is greater incidence of deficiencies with rny - everyone I have personal contact with has had either iron or a b vitamin deficiency, so that is a consideration. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    New Premier Protein flavor!!!!

If Optifast is the only choice then your clinic/surgeon is somehow profitting from this exclusionary choice. Are you required to buy directly from the clinic itself, if so there is your red flag? (Kickbacks from sales reps) I have read where this happens a lot in Canada.

    Body Dysmorphia

@Angie's_Ocean yep, feel the same way. And I think we do ignore how fat we looked prior to surgery because when I would see a picture I would be shocked at how gross I looked. The other day my granddaughter said, 'I can hug you all the way around now.' But I don't see it as much when I look in the mirror. Pictures - that I can see, but staring back at myself, doesn't sink in for some reason. I did go a little shopping crazy because I went on vacation and it still isn't really sinking in. I hope it does soon, so I can start to appreciate it.
  15. Wow! Just wow! Yes def go to the doctor that specializes in that type of surgery!

Time Off - vent about my boss

I didn't know an employer could say no to a medical procedure scheduled by a physician? I realize it is elective, but what does the employee handbook say, and state and federal laws? I tried to time any surgery I had to the best work schedule and my personal schedule as well as recovery time - who wants to risk falling on ice going to physical therapy after knee or foot surgery, right? And never at FYE. I would refrain from convos about your medical life and a timeline free for all. Next time she asks, say this is determined by my medical team and (not me) you will give ample notice according to protocol. I know we are all intimmidated by the boss, but make sure you are polite and factual and do not engage in arguing. Also document these convos. You can buy a thumb drive looking audio recorder and no one needs to know what it is - that way you have exact words that were used in these convos. If she persists, you might try asking what her main concern is about your absence - ask for specifics, not generalizations. then address those in writing to her. Be professional and proactive. Not defending her, but msybe her arss is on the line on something. Stay until you get surgery done at least, then maybe transfer or move on, if you can. And def do not give a return date, take medical leave as well as vacation but put it in as medical leave, just use vacation to cover it. You never know if you might need an extra week to recover, use fmla if you can. Doesn't your company have paid medical leave?

5 months post op need help

@Amy1234 - you don't say what type of work you do that you can't have water next to you during the day. Are you retail? A teacher? A nurse? Assembly? And make hard boiled eggs to carry with you to work, or those premade tuna salad things, a bag of 20 almonds, string cheese, small container of cottage cheese, or a small carton of milk. Sip a clear protein shake in the car, keep a cooler with you in the car for food and drinks.

Can I still lose this weight? How long approx?

Just clarify - are you 354 or 254 right now?
  19. Sosewsue61

    irritated

Yes. You are recovering from major surgery. You are not consuming much nutrition, flying is dehydrating, hormones have been disrupted, etc. Rest, push more fluids, get protein intake goals met. Rest is huge, take a nap.

    Nausea question, please help [emoji30]

So get a refill of the reflux med and see if that solves it.
  21. I would look into some assistance as a precaution, it can't hurt to be prepared. Find an agency and check the cost, or place an ad for someone to come for a few hours the first three days and you definitely cannot drive home or drive for a few days. I had an easy surgery and was up and about the day of surgery, stayed two days in order to meet liquid consumption goals, but at home I became tired quickly and my husband was a big help - taking trash out, cleaning up, taking care of the grandgirls, etc. It is super easy to be dehydrated and getting caught up is difficult, so be mindful of that. Dehydration makes you dizzy, fuzzy headed and tired, especially when nutrition is so little in that first week or two. Good luck.
  22. Please share. And not to negate your suffering or issues, but in 18 years it would be reasonable to expect that many techniques have changed. I hope the surgeon at fault is no longer practicing and perhaps you should make known this tragedy where it would do the most good - in the surgeon's practice area by going to wls group mtgs and sharing the story there as well.

    Patient-blaming Stigma

How horrid a system! Can't your PCP or a physician in the dietician office provide this certificate for this? That's crazy nonsense. Don't you have privacy laws that prevent employers from publicly sharing information at work?
  24. Go Fluff go!! Praise God and the surgeon's skill. Amen. Hugs to you.
