    Items to bring to hospital?

What I took: Sleep bra, comfy sweats/workout clothes for walking the hall and wearing home, my robe, my pillow - hold against your stomach for the ride home and I sleep better with my own pillow, chapstick and biotene mouth swabs - your mouth is going to feel dry as dust from anesthetic, phone and charger, slippers (or wear hospital slipper socks), toiletries - lotion, deodorant, etc. Ask the anesthesiologist for scopolamine patch for nausea - works great. Walk as soon as you can, sip, and walk and blow in that 'respiratory thing', and sip and walk and then nap.

10 Months and 137 lbs Later

Awesome and thanks for sharing your story. Post some pics, show off a little!!
  9. I had a perm in August, surgery Oct 24, highlights January 26th, (and getting a perm in two weeks) - I haven't seen any ill effects from the processes so far. Although it is a little drier this past week, I have been taking super hot showers lately (I'm freezing cold all the time) and we have very hard water despite a having a water softener. My highlights were only a shade or two lighter - some caramel amd some auburn (I am 63 but only have a dozen grey hairs - lucky me!!). I am still getting a perm since it is so thin that will help disguise the peek through.

    Complications Kaiser SoCal

Oh man...so sorry you are experiencing these extreme medical issues, also the extreme azzhats in the insurance industry. Maybe call the Lt Governor's office, and any insurance commission. Get your PCP to write documentation on these ongoing problems, get all your records of the first repair surgery and submit for appeal. There has to be an agency somewhere that can help with this.

    Dehydration?

Push more fluids, popsicles, hot tea, broth whatever it takes to get it increased. Hang in there.

    It's days like these

Hang in there @Mattymatt - it gets better, I can't promise immediate improvement, but it gets way better after these 'shitty' liquid stages.

    Pre Op

Not sure what you mean by 'pre-op' appointment. Your very first appointment or the 'pre-op appointment' two weeks before surgery. My clinic had the latter type AFTER my six month program of monthly NUT appts, after all my clearance appts, after EGD, etc. It was the last chance to see surgeon before starting liquid diet to get questions answered, last minute info exchange, get my cleansing cloths. If you have a 6 month program, either required by clinic or insurance/both - use this time wisely to learn all you can about the surgery, the changes you need to work on, your relationship to food, etc. Good luck.

    Surgery Day(nervous)

Good luck. Prayers for you and your surgical team. Yes, scopolamine patch is great for nausea. 1000mgr IV acetaminophen for pain is great. *Walk and sip, nap* repeat * *. We were all nervous, you will do fine. See you on the 'sleeved side'.
  15. @frust8 shea butter - not related to cocoa butter, I buy it in bulk organic. Really great for dry feet, take a pea size and rub it in your hands until warmed up and slather into your skin. There are recipes online for mixing it with some other oils and fragrances but I just keep mine plain.

    Pouch reset

Just weigh/measure food and don't go above 4oz for protein at a serving, stop snacking/grazing. The pouch reset is a mind game, you cannot physically 'reset' a pouch, if it is truly stretched only surgery will fix that and the only way to know is to have your bariatric surgeon do a barium swallow test. You know what to eat and what to do to follow the original guidelines.
  17. I read that hair grows and rests in 3 month cycles. I had already thin hair to begin with but def losing more is not good. I try to add good fat in my diet, take an extra folic acid, biotin and put peppermint oil in my leave-inconditioner - that's all I can do. I see baby hairs at my front hairline. I am getting a perm on the 16th. And then pray no more escapes.
  18. Oh my!! Amazing! Congrats to you both!

    Vitamins

Celebrate chewables made me nauseated to the nth degree, I had to crush and put in peanut butter just to comply. I now take Centrum 50+ for women 2x/day, B1, D3, B12, and Rainbow light calcium citrate 3x/day, Triple Calm magnesium (leg cramp miracle). Biotin, folic acid - for hair regrowth. Annoyingly too many pills lol

    Feeling down

Congrats on your progress!!! Plus clothes sizes have about a 30lb range and are predominantly stretch fabric, so you are on track for that. Once you get into regular sizes the range is closer to 10-12lbs, so get ready for some fun shopping!! Also we have to consider where we hold our fat - mine is hugest in the stomach and I lose there slower, so my waist is thicker and pants sizes have to accommodate that overhang. Everyone loses at their own pace. At this point just walking is good. Post a daily example of your intake. Maybe up your water and protein, add some good fats like avocado.

    Approved

Congrats!!! Take your measurements. Ask the anesthesiologist for a scopolamine patch for nausea before they knock you out for surgery - works wonders. Take chapstick, biotene mouth swabs/spray for dry mouth, a sleep bra to wear home, comfy sweats or workout clothes to wear when you walk the halls after surgery, pillow to brace against your incisions when you cough and for the ride home. Walk and sip, walk and sip...sleep. At home - bone broth, hot tea, sf popsicles, some protein drinks - many of us like Premier Protein ready-made found at Walmart/Sams/Cotsco, I also like ready-made Isopure punch or blue raspberry diluted w Crystal light lemonade. I bought a thermal cup to carry around everywhere because you can only take in small amounts and it's better tasting cold. Maybe have stool softeners, suppositories, laxatives handy as protein drinks are constipating to most of us. Your gut will be noise-y and you will have lots of gas, walking and time is the cure. Liquids are more important than reaching that early protein goal of 60gr because it's super hard to get caught up once you get dehydrated. You may not realize it, check by pinching your skin by your wrist it should be supple after you let go and not stay wrinkled/bunched up, also urine output - light colored and plentiful. Good luck.

    Pre Op diet plan

This is probably 'surgeon/clinic' specific as to what is presented vs dietician monitored appointments. At appointments we went over my food journal, exercise journal - so she could submit to insurance for compliance -and permanent changes made in my eating behavior. My clinic did not have an actual nutrition class, everyone was given a binder filled with all the surgery information, dietary guidelines, acceptable protein shakes, vitamins required, permission forms, exercise journal, schedule to make appointments for labs, EGD test, sleep study, stress test, what was expected regarding compliance in their 6 month plan, warnings if you did not comply that you would only get one 'get out of jail free' card or have to start over on your 6 month ticker. Good luck.

    1.5 years old

Ooo sorry to hear you are in this condition. Be kind to yourself.

    im so confused

Don't put yourself last, that type of thinking is so prevalent amongst 'us fatties', and especially women in general as caretakers. Don't wait. You have already been waiting. And don't worry about needing plastic surgery until that time comes. Good luck and keep reading the forums. Welcome to BP.
