I think my depression is easing

I am glad that you are less depressed @Mattymatt. All the changes can really be a challenge with more to come, but forewarned is forearmed in most cases. However, the physiology of depression is an illusive animal for a lot of people and how medication works on it eludes even the physicians. On a side note - I cannot like any of your content, others have mentioned this, do you have me blocked intentionally/unintentionally?

    Massive gut not shrinking

Same here, I have lost some fat there but not as noticeable - my legs have thigh gap, I can see collar bones, and turkey neck, thinner face, etc. But my belly is shamelessly sticking out there.
  5. For me it was internal stitch and nerve healing from the incision sote that they removed the stomach through.

    Confused

I take 2 - Centrum 50+ for women. Generic Folic acid 400mcg, Generic B1 100mg, Generic D3 5000iu Generic Biotin 5000mcg, Generic B12 2500mcg, 3 RainbowLight Calcium Citrate 800mg 2 - Triple Calm Magnesium before bedtime (for leg cramps and restless legs - I would not get any sleep without the magnesium) Spacing the calcium is a PITA, but whaddya gonna do... I have always taken vitamins, the additional ones for the sleeve added - extra multi, calcium, B1, and Biotin. The folic makes my hair grow crazy fast, and hopefully the biotin and adequate protein will mean my hair loss is lessened (cross fingers).
  7. Well, I am looking pretty saggy. And just losing weight and being a smaller size gives me all kinds of anxiety, so I know that it can be scary for some of us. So go ahead and 'sit' with your fear awhile and just feel that. But don't eat. Write this down in a journal and let it be for a few days, then go back and re-read it. Write down also all the benefits you have experienced because you have lost weight, let this sink in. For myself - I can move so much easier, cross my legs, get up on the step stool to reach the closet shelves, get in and out of the bathtub easier, wear smaller shoes/clothes, and I have a lot more energy - I smile way more too. Even with the saggy skin I feel so much better already.

    Night Snacking

I'm inclined to go the route of ditching that night snack - I am attempting that right now myself. My husband likes to unwind with a movie and food, so this is very difficult for me to overcome. Granted I was eating an approved snack, but I think it would be better with no snack (unless I am severely short of protein for the day). Soo I have ditched the movie/couch/snack altogether for now until I can get my mind to get used to it - then I think I will try to crochet or do something with my hands will watching the movie. Time will tell.

    Confused About Carbs

It also depends on where those carbs are coming from too - vegetables, fruits, grains, sugars, etc.
  10. I just emailed the hospital bariatric support group coordinator and suggested one of the programs should be this very topic - have a dentist or hygienist as a presenter.
  11. Yeah that's the trouble, food is just so tasty and seems harmless going down. We relate all of our holidays and social events to the food, it's a huge challenge to manage that. If we could just all wrap up in a fuzzy blanket and do a group hug to make us feel better, I would do that for sure. I have low self worth and have worked on it forever, some improvements but still a work in progress. Childhood was a b!iotch and getting past believing the people that you trusted and loved telling you how undeserving you are of pretty much anything takes a lifetime.

    Lap-Band vs Gasteric Balloon

There are creative ways to look like it's a real drink if you get to the waiter/bar tender ahead of time - twist of lime in sevenup, etc. You could say you are on antibiotic because of xyz (dental work, ear infection, sinus) and cannot drink alcohol. And attitude goes a long way - if you act like someone kicked your puppy because you can't drink well that is on you....if you yuck it up and make jokes, then no one is wizer. And I worked in IT - a very male dominated field, not to disparage my own sex but men are easier to get along with 75% of the time.
  13. I did just do some reading on this a little more - and there might be ph changes in our mouth after the surgery contributing to this. As well as reflux, antacids, eating 6 times a day - and not brushing more often, chewable vitamins causing acidic contact, etc. So this bears more research. Some people may have been vitamin/mineral deficient prior to surgery and with unidentified dental issues and with continued deficiencies made a perfect storm.
  14. Sorry you and your friend are having these issues. Some people could be prone to soft enamel, I imagine absorbing less calcium could increase this loss. I am prone to making plaque and get my teeth cleaned 4 times a year because of this, they use that tool that goes below the gum line to clean them. Not to negate your problems, but that dude on tv already had bad teeth.

    My man said I cheated

Congrats on your progress!!! Stop bringing up your weight loss with him, if he hasn't understood the struggle at this point he may never get it. Don't look to him for validation on your progress, look to yourself (and the forum we will cheer you on). He could be nervous or afraid about all the changes that you will/are going through, not saying he isn't still a tool for saying what he said, but insecurity can make people into idiots.
  16. @calvinrn2011 my NUT thought is was cute!

    Type ONE Diabetics and Sleeves

Do you have the monitor that alerts your phone when a low is coming on? My daughter has this and it's great especially for those 'predawn lows'. Check into it if you don't. https://www.dexcom.com https://www.thediabetescouncil.com/continuous-glucose-monitoring-everything-you-need-to-know/
  18. Yes the body is adjusting to surgery, lack of calories/liquid, etc. Drink more plain water if you can. Sometimes a lot of exercise at this point can be counterproductive because you are not consuming enough calories yet, you could just do half an hour of walking for a few days and up your water and it will move the scale soon.
  19. @calvinrn2011 NUT is nutritionist, RD - is registered dietician, sort of the same in many settings. RD is probably preferred and more accurate.

    People making decision difficult

Trainers are great, but they have no frame of reference for metabolic syndrome or medical conditions like morbid obesity. I read somewhere (?) that obese people (that have not had surgery) need to workout 90 -120 minutes a day every day to maintain a normal weight AFTER they get to a normal weight. Besides the lapband needs to come out reagardless because it is a useless device at this point and could cause lots of problems if left inside. Follow your conscience on this, and tell your friend you appreciate his efforts but this is your decision and you are moving forward. Good luck. Come on here for support.

What's Your Goal For The Week?

Summer (l) and Scarlette (r) - aren't they just adorbs! We are at a square dance.

What's Your Goal For The Week?

My goal is to stay sane - which is no easy thing. #1 My fridge has been out for a week - the part arrived today - I could write a book on the fridge thing, will keep ya posted on that. #2 OD has a new job and couldn't find her birth certificate, so I had to go to the courthouse and get one for her, scan it in my phone, and verify she is who she claims to be by edoc. #3 stupid lawyer forgot to issue 1099s for a property sale for my taxes, so I have to chase that down, plus go to a different courthouse for that property's documents. #4 my son finally said yes you can take the two grandgirls on vacation next week (just the girls live with me and mr sue - for THREE YEARS now, yes he has just left them here and I'm not going into that mess of an explanation, apparently I am responsible enough to take care of them for three years but I would be a risk for someone to kidnap them while on vacation WUT?) #5 Two month stall is seriously annoying and I am going to resort to dropping calories from 1100 back to 900 for a week, just to see what happens. #6 I have to alter/sew new square dance apparel because most of my stuff is too big now and a deadline is looming for Iowa SD Convention in April. Forget it, no way to stay sane this week. Reboot.

    Type ONE Diabetics and Sleeves

I would def consult on dropping your insulin dosage, esp quick acting before the shakes - one unit per carb grams is usually the recommended amount - correct? And your long acting/lantis may need adjusting - bring this up with your endo. I am not a type1, but I have two type1 diabetic (now adult) children.
  25. Oh...sorry. Yes the whey protein can be constipating, it was for me anyway. Maybe do daily dose of colace, or take a fiber pill and keep pushing fluids. Maybe a different brand. Some try smooth move tea. Good luck.
