Anyone not feeling restriction anymore?
Sosewsue61 replied to PinkMints's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
OP had ESG - so internal stitching to make the stomach smaller and since the majority of posters are VSG or RNY "we" generally have no frame of reference in her case, as we have no idea the size of her stitched stomach. BUT the rule still applies to no liquids for 30 minutes after eating and this rule should not be broken. And perhaps the OP should just stick to measuring the portions. I would speculate that the ESG patient gets no benefit of grhelin reduction since the fundus is still intact internally and may not have the added appetite suppressant of fundus removal. -
1 year 5 months after Bypass

Wow! Great succes story! -
Exactly what @Roxine said. It's more important to make this a lifestyle change and embrace it rather than mourning a food fest. Your health is more important than this 'food bonding' notion. You should seek counseling separate and then as a couple to address food relationships before the surgery. This is something YOU absolutely can master, and ot is worth the effort. Good luck.

Questions about my upcoming surgery :) please help
Sosewsue61 replied to Jpsl1028's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1) My insurance had a 'no wt gain' stipulation and it was from my starting weight and I had 6 months required supervision. 2) My insurance approval was sent in after my last NUT appt. , I already had my physical clearances but had not had my surgery labs and EDG - those are scheduled after approval. 3) N/A - had Humana 4) If your insurance requires PCP approval, then yes a PCP can be biased and could stall your chances. BUT you can change primary physicians, or fight through the PCP's supervisors - everyone answers to someone. This has happened to people on bariatricpal, and they changed to another PCP. Mine wanted to send me to a Humana bariatric physician 2 hours away and I said NO. I will petition my insurance to go out of network - at in-network cost because that is a burden to go that far and it was approved. Good luck. -
WOW Russ, just WOW!!! What an amazing accomplishment! Looking good!!!

Baritastic is another free app you can use or Lose It. Also if you are able add a 20 minute walk (beyond your normal daily activities) try making it a new habit. Just reduce your caffeine gradually so you won't get a withdrawal headache. Up the vegetable intake, stay away from starchier ones or at least limit it to one per day - go for green veggies as much as you want - lower carb like broccoli, gren beans, asparagus, zucchini, salad greens, kale, etc. , if you must do grains stick to one serving of whole grains daily. Journal your feelings about your journey and your relationship to food - you don't have to like what you are feeling but just notice what is going on with it. Develop a hobby to ease the anxiety over changing your life - word puzzles, woodworking, crafting, fishing, window box gardening, anything to keep your mind occupied. Good luck. -
I like an all-in-one bra and shaper that has cups - there are other brands besides Spanx, but I really like my Red Hot by Spanx.

I am raising two grandaughters and we took them on vacation and they missed 4 days of classes. Everyone knows you have to make up academics but unknown to me they have to make up gym classes too. The 5th grader has had to miss study hall to take 'extra gym class'. OK. BUT the extra gym class consisted of IMO excessive punishment type activity. 18 laps, 90 pushups, 75 jumping jacks, 90 v-sits, 90 leg lifts, 90 burpees, 90 line leaps. Way to go school to turn a kid off physical activity just to put a grade down on paper. And to do this same routine 2 days in a row - the child is also in the school musical amd had play practice late every night plus the play starts tonight for 3 runs. I of course found NO satisfaction in calling the school, the policy has been in place for years, so what!!! They HAVE to get the grade in, again so what!!! You can't come up with a better way to get in a gym class than by running laps and doing the other 'punishments'. LAZY TEACHING. AZZHATS!!! And, how is this physically beneficial to the child, exactly HOW does this serve her body? And it was to be repeated again today. Oh hell no!

I need to write a country song....I am so mad I could bake a whole chocolate ganache cake and eat it until I puke. I am not doing that, I am too lazy to go to all that effort....🍰🍷🍰🍷🍰🍷🍰🍷But this is now ridiculous to be sitting at this same weight for over 2 months. <rant over> WAIT. And the damn weather sucks too, snow. <now rant over>

Advice for 600lb person starting the journey
Sosewsue61 replied to JMOORE1981's topic in The Guys’ Room
Congratulations on wanting to take these steps, you are being brave and finally wanting to be true to yourself. Welcome. Just like the others have said, take one step at a time and don't look back. Leave your old life behind. Go to your appointments, get some counseling, and stay the course. It can be a challenge, but it will be worth the hard work. Good luck. Keep posting and letting us know. -
I love the identical pic idea too! Crazy changes lady, brava!!!

Good for you on wanting to go back to school. Electricity would be companionable with an IT background. I have an idea though, and at first it may sound a little weird. Sewing machine repairmen are in high demand - most all machines are computer controlled now. Check into the training. You could set your own hours practically. Just cleaning a sewing machines costs me $75 and I know it takes less than an hour to do and I have to wait 3 damn weeks to get it back because there are so few places to take the machine. I am serious. (But you are not too old for IT, I was in IT as a woman at age 42 as my second career and retired just 3 years ago at age 60, so don't sell yourself short.)

You look great!!! Wahoo!

Guilt in wanting VSG
Sosewsue61 replied to mrs.amandaleo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Find a counselor/therapist you both can go to - separate appointments of course - one that has success with kids. Have her see a nutritionist too - as growing kids have different requirements than adults. Find a physical activity that she has always really wanted to do - riding horses, ice skating, dance, whatever. And even if it takes some extreme budgeting to provide - do it. It will go a long way towards her self esteem and promote life long activity. -
There were 8 students doing makeup gym. I have zero issue w making up a class, I have a huge issue with the amount of the sets. So 25 burpees, etc. would be fine. And then to expect the same today, no. Plus expect her to sing and dance tonight in the play. It is excessive and a great way to make you hate gym class in the process and serve no purpose physically except to be exhausted. And what if this was an overweight child, eh? Summer is a gangly, tall geeky girl not known for her athletic prowess - she would like to be athletic but is always picked last for teams.

Interesting study on insulin response
Sosewsue61 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is a long article with variations on the study of insulin response with regard to protein, carbohydrate intake. Read carefully. There are some interesting results/conclusions. One is that in adequately controlled diabetes protein intake does not cause increased kidney failure. There are other take aways as well. http://journal.diabetes.org/diabetesspectrum/00v13n3/pg132.htm -

Choosing a Surgeon - How many did you interview?
Sosewsue61 replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only consulted with one surgeon for the sleeve. -
There can be mistakes made when the clinic files too if they are unfamiliar with certain insurances. And I forgot - some insurances want you to follow the 6 month diet, and if you successfully lose too much weight by falling below the required BMI they could deny, also some have a strict 'no gain rule' during that 6 months too. And the EXTREME insurance that requires 5 years of documented attempts at weight loss. The last one I have seen two people on here struggling to find 6mos missing records - those may as well just say 'we don't cover wls' but may be required to by state law but then make dang sure it is close to impossible to qualify.

1. Bariatrics not covered in ins plan 2. Did not meet criteria. Ex. <40BMI no comorbidities, or <35BMI w comorbidities; Did not follow a 6 month supervised plan diet and exercise plan; fail tests - pysch eval, stress tests, or any other physical reason surgery is contraindicated. Those are the main reasons you could be denied, or postponed until you are compliant.
