    5 week stall

What are your protein grams? And definitely use stool softeners, or miralax, or anything that helps in that department. There will be stalls, I was in one for over 3 months. Hang in there.

    Plus Size Clothing

I like Dress Barn for dress slacks and dresses. And Christoher Banks for tops and sweaters.
  3. Sosewsue61

    Any idea why?

I sip during workouts. After your cool down just sit for a few minutes and drink a clear protein drink or some flavored water.
  4. I did not want malabsorption, so it was the sleeve. Also you can get ulcers in the unattached stomach portion left in and it's very hard to treat - the nurse at my PCP's office has one plus vitamin deficiencies. The 3 ladies that gave testimony at wls group all had to have iron infusions. The percentage difference in overall weight loss is not much different between bypass and sleeve. Each surgery, either way you are responsible for what you eat.

    Back in a Funk

Hopefully the infection is gone and only healing left. Waiting sucks but it's better to get it healed. As always one step at a time. Good luck.
  6. Just call your surgeon's office and ask.
  7. I don't recommend going the week after surgery as getting enough fluids and nutrition is difficult under normal circumstances and impossible while standing in the sun all day - you would likely pass out. I think you could manage it in the pre-op stage.
  8. I had parakeets as a child, how fascinating that you have an aviary, thanks for sharing that. I was abused as a child as well, and losing the protective 'fat layer' can be a scary thing, previously losing weight sent me back to adding the layer back on from the attention I was receiving - not this time. Those abusers are all dead now.

In what way have you changed?

I feel taller, even though at 5'2", that is impossible lol - I think I don't 'lead' with my gut anymore and I smile more and feel less invisible.

    Almost under 200lbs!

New clothes from a resale shop or clearance rack, new haircut, mani-pedi and new sandals!
  11. Welcome. You are taking the first steps to realize change needs to happen. Tell us more about yourself please - do you have any hobbies, pets, etc, etc?

    Stopped losing after 8 weeks

Hang in there. I was stalled for nearly 4 months, and it just moved down 4#s this week. It is very frustrating. But the weight I was stuck at may have been a set point I had not been at for a very long time and my body may have just needed a rest. You can try all the advice - more water, more sleep, more protein, more exetcise, carbs below 40 - and it may not change it, or it might!!! So don't get discouraged. Just keep going.

    Don't pray for me

Glad your daughter did not get hurt.

    caretaker needs help

If you are the grocery shopper then stick to healthy food choices for awhile - don't cook pizza, don't eat chocolate in front of him, etc. Switch to small plates and bowls for you both, you can grab seconds or eat in between away from him. Don't put drinks on the table. He may have food aversions, some of us suddenly find eggs intolerable or something. He might eat too fast, or not chew enough and food will get stuck, he will get 'foamies or slimes' and will need to spit it up. It can be embarassing. Plan snacks for traveling, take ready-made protein drinks and water in a cooler at all times. You can get busy and forget to eat and the next thing you know, BAM - you are shaky and need something. SF popsicles, decaf tea, bone broth, ready-made blue raspberry Isopure and ready-made premier protein were my choices after surgery. Fluids are the main goal in the beginning because dehydration can come on fast. Sip sip sip, carry liquids everywhere from now on. And don't constantly watch him eat, or be a hovering food cop. Ask instead of assume. Good luck and bless you for being his support.

3 1/2 years post VSG needing help

We can tell you what to start over doing, but ultimately YOU have to decide to Do IT. Go back to basics - protein first, then vegetables, water, water, water. Do you journal? Journal your food intake, weigh or measure your protein and vegetables. Use a free phone app like Baritastic or myfitnesspal, it makes it easier. Eliminate carbs - you said this was your problem - so you know the answer to your own question. Try Quest chips instead of crackers - yes they are pricey but they are 19gr of protein and 4 carbs. Start walking or get an exercise dvd. Re-commit. Make an appointment with a dietician and your surgeon's office, don't be embarrassed - it happens, they can help.
  16. What are the exact criteria on your insurance plan for surgery? Check the policy. Email from their online sight and ask what would deny surgery, ask specific questions - 'if the bmi is 39 and no comorbidities, ' if I gain or lose any weight in the process', 'if already approved and scheduled, what would cause a denial?' I say use email rather than phone because there will be a written record. BUT first, call your surgeon's office and speak to the insurance specialist - that person has experience with your ins company firsthand and would know about this 'nurse-phone call' thing. I wish you luck and success.

    Plateaued and worried

Are you journaling your food every day? Do you see a dietician as part of follow-up? I stalled for months, but now am losing again. There is no formula that fits everyone, but your dietician and surgeon's office can help you.

    Feeling Blue :(

These emotions come and go during this process, it's a new road we travel and sometimes we need to shed the baggage that holds us back from getting to our goals. It can be scary and scary hard. Hang in there. When I am down, I find I need a nap or a bit of pampering in some way. I also started a gratitude journal, and nothing negative can be written in it. It helps to keep my perspective. Good luck.

    To tell coworkers or not?

No don't tell them. Even though they may be great people, your medical issues do not need to be an open book, especially for a supervisor. It puts the workers in an awkward position and IMO is unprofessional to overly share.

    Thought I was dying

I cannot tolerate white meat chicken at 7 months no matter how much I chew it, and not iceberg lettuce either...I get slimes and it HAS to come up. I avoid them both, who knows if it will change. I eat chicken thighs, and some spring greens, spinach or leaf lettuce, but don't indulge very often. Your sweating and other symptoms are classic dumping syptoms combined with the intolerance of the chicken. So sorry you had this experience.

    No Longer Overweight!

    Yay Heather!!! Congrats!
  22. Sosewsue61

    Seriously?! Losing my mind!

Acid reflux medication maybe? For fluids try sf popsicles or weak decaf tea, room temp flavored water. So sorry for your struggle. Definitely get a new PCP, good luck. Ask your surgeon for a recommendation maybe.

@Creekimp13 I don't like your references in your last post.
