  1. People are always surprised when some of the medical community are so against wls, but not all physicians have education regarding it or first hand knowledge of the procedure, they read medical journals, or even listen to anecdotal evidence and really don't understand obesity - plus everyone has an opinion, even doctors. How many fitness 'experts' really know how to help an obese person get in shape? Shoot there are OBGYN doctors that know squat about breastfeeding, they claim to support it, but really are clueless - I especially find a lot of neonatal intensive care nurses to be the worst at supporting a breastfeeding mom - ' oh you don't need to be concerned about nursing, your milk won't be in for a few days anyway'. Say what!!! Do you not know that the breastmilk of a preemie mom is actually calorically higher and that the colostrum is just filled with immunities and the perfect food for those first couple days. YEP, so called professionals are biased and often not fully educated about a lot of procedures and situations. Don't get me started about doctors that think an insulin reaction is a seizure disorder...eejits. So do what is best for YOU.

When did hunger strike for you?

Real hunger where you want to gnaw your arm off? I don't have it much at 7 months. I can tell I need to eat because my brain starts to malfunction and I get tired, cranky. I do have head hunger and it varies, sometimes it is a couple days in a row, and then nothing for weeks. An empty stomach does not bother me, I just notice it but it doesn't really set off alarms. I will get a cheese stick or eat 2 small shrimp or something like that and be okay until meal time. Or get busy and forget to eat until I am in trouble and desperate for nourishment. All part of the navigation.
  3. So sorry your dad passed and you have all these responsibilities when you need care yourself....big hugs to you. Can you find some county services to come and take care of your mom? Or maybe a senior center day care? Or maybe your church group or something. Cousins? Siblings? Best friends? Drink plenty of fluid and try to sleep when you can. Even just a nap. We had to hire someone to stay with my MIL after my FIL died because my MIL had dementia, it was hard but it helped so much. I wish you the best.

    DS POST OP COMPLICATIONS

Oh darlin' girl, so sorry you are in this mess, but glad your care is top notch. Rest and follow all your docs orders to a T. Just do some day dreaming about all the new exciting activities you will do once you get healed, shop online for some new dancing shoes and that party dress. Hang in there. Prayers.

    Pity Party - WAAAAAAAH!

I'm coming to the party, just make some smoothie shooters for me and pass the party hats!!! So sorry, this news sucks. I concur - get a GI Doc right away and maybe some liquid vitamins. Did you get acid reflux meds? If not get that too. Keep us posted so we can come to the 'after party' too. I'll even sing and dance.

    Haven’t lost more weight

I know money is tight but find a head hunter to help you get a job, even temp agencies just to get you through until something permanent comes along. But you must step out of your house, go for two walking breaks every six hours at the computer. Or go to the library and use their computer - harder to drink wine there lol.....find a support group at church or a meetup group exercise or anything - book club because the more people that you let know you need work the better, sometimes word of mouth is the best job resource. Find a wls group and attend. Hang in there.

    Coping strategies

Get a good lawyer. Courts can assign child advocates and there can be recommendations that the father pay for counseling. Maybe a support group for parents of divorce in your area - they sometimes have family outings, and can be a resource for other services in your area. How about local churches, too? Sometimes they have exercise groups (yoga) or just family gatherings where your kids can be involved. I really recommend a yoga session once a week for stress. Walking at lunch is great if you can fit it in. Cook on Sundays for the entire week and just reheat it after work - that way you have less to think about and food is available without temptation. Good luck and chin up.

    Taking a Cruise ... help

I went on a 10 day cruise 3 months out and had no issues with the available food on the cruise, I did not take protein powder with me. You can buy individual packets - like Jay Robb strawberry or orange and a skaker. I took some almonds and my Sip thermos. Three days should be very manageable.

Perspectives on Losing Fast & Slow

I am truly a slow loser and not happy about it at all, it sucks. It's depressing. I can't quit but often think goal is just so far far away at this pace that it won't happen. I stalled for over 3 months, then lost 6 pounds and now stalled again it seems. Is this a pattern? Heck i hope not. My anxiety then gets the best of me and I am just a puddle. I get up and start a new day - over and over. It beats going backwards, but it still sucks.

    Nausea every morning

Yes, I keep water beside the bed and drink a few times at night. However it could also be slight acid reflux, just keep a watch on it.
  11. Wow big difference, and you look so happy too! Good job!

    New sleeve working?

What Kathy said, once you are on dense protein it will kick in.

    Insurance doesn't cover surgery

The recovery from this surgery is relatively easy, so traveling for it would not be a major issue. FL flights are inexpensive.
  14. Good luck to you and your surgical team and recovery. Stay strong.

    Today is the big day!!!

    Yay!!! Good luck and prayers.

    emotions all over the place

You really get a chance to examine your relationship with food, figure out how to stop the love affair - you have to find the replacements for that, at the very least you notice how you use food. This is an important time actually, get picky - only eat great food that fuels your body. Eliminate all soda, then go from there through the list of those things you know you can just live without. I will never eat store bought cake again, I don't miss pasta either. There are some items I will indulge in, but it is a planned item and rare. Good luck.
  17. Questions: Does doc do barium swallow test after surgery? Can I have a scopolamine patch for nausea before surgery? What kind of anesthetic is used? What kind of pain relievers are used after surgery (IV Tylenol at 1000mg works great)? What size do you make the sleeve/pouch? What is your complication rate? How would I know if I have a stricture? Who do I call first after surgery if I think I have an issue? How many ounces do I have to drink before I am released after surgery? What can I take for constipation?
  18. Rice expands in the stomach, I can at most eat a tablespoon with my protein, that is why you can't eat your protein at dinner, the rice is taking up valuable space you need for the protein.

    Fatigue

You might be deficient in vitamins or minerals, get all your bloodwork done.

    Notifying work

You need to follow your company policy when taking leave/sick leave/fmla. Tell them you have an upcoming surgery, you do not need to tell details about it. For fmla, you usually have to have something signed by a physician regarding your 'possible' return to work date - make sure they understand that it is only a best guess and not the actual return date, your doctor will sign a release when you can return to full duty. Your health care is really no one's business, unless you invite and share, that also opens you up to opinions and all that goes with that. (I don't share other intimate details with coworkers, bosses - who wants to be in awkward situations like that?) Congrats on getting a surgery date. Good luck.
  23. Lettuce is still an issue for me at 7 months....the rest is fine, and no soft shells - too gummy. Tomatoes - no problem - and I would seriously cry if I could not tolerate tomatoes.

    Change in insurance

It will be up to the surgeon's office and the insurance company, but it might be possible to transfer the records and have it count. But the requirements could all be different - email the insurance and email the approved surgeon and ask - that way you at least have it in writing.
