My taste buds are crying
Sosewsue61 replied to miss_smiles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Blended chicken veg soup, and it really only takes 20 minutes for homemade. Buy bone broth, boneless thighs, you can buy pre chopped onion, celery, shredded carrots, etc. Cut up chicken, saute in a little olive oil w the onion n celery, carrots add some broth, then blend that up add extra broth bone broth. Add garlic, basil, whatever. If you want oriental flavor add touch of soy sauce and a little lemon, if you want mex add some taco seasoning add canned white/pinto beans blended, if italian add some oregano and tomato sauce. -
Depends on what you spice/baste it with, some things could cause acid reflux? Your stomach is healing and being gentle in the beginning is necessary, so you can avoid regurgitation and all those lovely things.

Surgery tomorrow, what to bring or not...
Sosewsue61 replied to BigDrew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My own pillow - hold against my stomach for the ride home, chapstick, biotene mouth swabs, loose workout pants, my sneakers (instead of slippers), decaf/herbal tea bags - tastes better than plain water, cell phone and charger, underwear and shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush/paste, hair ties/hairbrush. -
Try Quest protein barbeque chips, they are good tasting.

Dumb question about over eating
Sosewsue61 replied to Deb100's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
There are no stupid questions. The over full feeling goes WAY up your throat! And you get the slimes or foamies - spit bubbling up and then the food comes back up too. Not strong projectile vomiting as if you were sick, but trust me it HAS to come back up. Plus you will be sooo aggitated and uncomfortable you will want it out!!!! You will learn fast. Of course after a few months, you can shove some quantities of slider food down your gullet if you choose to, but even then you can make yourself uncomfortable. Oh and for me - no rice - it expands, one or two spoons and it was misery. I have no desire for pasta at all - I'll have a homemade meatball and some sauce. I only eat rye toasted - one slice w avocado and my morning egg. Regular bread or tortillas are gummy and don't set well, so I don't try them anymore. Just follow the rules, protein first, chew well, eat slow, then couple bites of veg and you will be full and content. I get the hiccups, runny nose or sneezing about a minute after my sleeve is full. I have learned to wait, stop eating when there are 3 bites left on my small plate, and sure enough about a minute later - hiccups. -
Hair falling out at 4 1/2 months post-op
Sosewsue61 replied to LoriWhip's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Products usually just speed up the phases a little, but really don't stop the loss much. They can help the new growth stay healthier. I take an extra folic acid as well as the biotin, but have noticeable hair loss and it was thinning to begin with. Hopefully it stops soon. I do use peppermint oil in my leave-in conditioner - there was a study done that favorably compared the results to rogaine use. -
Bariatric Spray Vitamins
Sosewsue61 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Only these 3 options? No multivitamin? -
I've had some wine and it only hits me a little faster than before - but haven't really indulged that much. Champagne bubbles feel like rocks, so not much fun but I let it get flatter and it was okay. I dislike beer and have had one rum drink - now that hit faster.

Yep, all the time.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, Lock down the guys/gals rooms by gender!!
Sosewsue61 replied to Syntax_Attack's topic in Website Assistance & Suggestions
Are we talking about a person that identifies as a female but anatomically is a male or vice versa or what? Example - an obese man that has lost all the excess weight might have questions about getting his sagging ball sack lifted because now he sits on it and it causes extreme pain. A person that has transitioned from female to male isn't likely to have a lot of excess skin there - (at least not in the same way and those new balls do not function the same way either - getting tight with arousal, etc) (unless maybe they gained weight after transitioning then lost weight again).....soooo even though the person has transitioned, they could partially answer. And no woman can answer at all. It seems like the women violate the guys room more than vice versa. But if the person transitioned and already registered as the gender they would have access to it anyway. It's not my business if a person transitions, if that makes them happy - good. There is also no way there can be agreement on this subject, nor the likelihood of our opinions influencing the moderator on it. I still doubt it would impact the bottom line. Time to move on. -
Feeling Awkward & Embarrassed About Visible Weight Loss
Sosewsue61 replied to bluehat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, it feels weird to become a 'project' and human nature just seems to take over. It will die down, but probably not soon enough to give you any relief. You can try deflecting - 'hey I love talking about this but I need to take my walk now, take my vitamins, go write down meals in my food journal, and then walk away.' If you are trapped and can't leave, just ask them something personal - so how was your pap smear tuesday? Soon they will find something else to talk about. And take all the compliments with a smile and a thank you and move on because that will end at some point. -
High fat is keto. Keto is 60-75% fat, 15-30% protein and 10--15% carbs. Otherwise w/o the high fat it is just a low carb diet. You will have to figure out what works for you and especially what works long term. That's it. And that varies by so many factors - how long you have been obese, how resistant your body is, how much sustainable exercise you do, your age, time, and on and on. Staying on super strict plans may work for some people, or strict with occasional treats, or some with mainly protein, all vegetables, and one complex carb a day. This is the journey - figuring that out, so don't get bogged down by trying to decide all that ahead of time. Follow your surgeon's/NUT's plan and take it one step at a time.

I need to make a decision
Sosewsue61 replied to Beautfully Flawed's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I didn't want malabsorption, so I picked the sleeve. The 3 people I know from the wls group and my PCP office have all had to have iron infusions because of malabsorption. Plus one has an ulcer in the unused portion of her stomach - which is very hard to treat, she is 7 years out and still at goal but has that and deficiencies. I figured I didn't need the dumping part to keep me on track. Bypass patients lose faster initially, but statistics on end result losses are not much different between the two surgeries. This is just my opinion and experience and others may have wished they had done bypass. A few have converted to bypass because of uncontrolled acid reflux with the sleeve. I have only have reflux twice in 7 months and it was nothing major. -
Do you get breaks at work? Are there stairs, if there are put on your sneakers and do a couple flights of stairs. Park the farthest away at your work. Walk the first 10 minutes of your lunch break.

I’m disappointed with lack of follow up
Sosewsue61 replied to AdiosAnnie300's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had a one week follow up and then one month, 3 months, 6 months. These appointments included seeing the Nutritionist and the PA. But I was given a binder full of information as to the food stages, vitamins, etc. Call the surgeon's office and get the answers. Also ask if their are support group meetings. -
Is this a stall or my set point weight?
Sosewsue61 replied to LaLaDee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can be in a stall for longer than 6 weeks, some people never experience long ones, but it does happen. It does suck. And you WILL lose again. I was in a stall for over 3 months and then started losing again. It was brutal. And I believe it was a set point that my body was hanging on to because I had not been below that weight in over 30 years. I dropped 6 pounds and now staying put at 178 for a couple weeks again. This could be the pattern I lose at for now. I don't have any scientific answers or proof, just my experience. I tried all the advice, more water, less carbs, 200 less calories, added half hour more to gym time - and I square dance like crazy besides, and honestly unless you are really making bad choices, I think time and perseverance was the only solution. I had people nearly declare I was lying about my intake, so be aware of that. You know if you are in control or not. That doesn't mean that trying something different won't work for YOU. I have read that some have upped calories for two days by 200, then dropped them down by 300 for five days, and varied the types of food (don't routinely eat the same foods or amounts) and that has jolted their metabolism into losing again. Don't lose heart. Hang in there. -
Forgive yourself and move on, wean back off the carbs - this sometimes makes cravings easier to handle. Plan some treats for once a week in a controlled setting, when you start to reach for something, take deep breath and say - you know I'll wait until Saturday and have that super favorite treat that I planned, I can wait. Drink some water, get a protein snack and take a walk, take a bath, read a book, go shopping. Move out of the room where the food is.....(don't buy more of the trigger foods and don't lie to yourself) Just before your hand touches that food, think 'what is my frame of mind here?' Am I anxious, am I wrestling with a decision, a task I find distasteful, am I avoiding making changes, is someone challenging me, am I feeling insecure? Chances are food was a calming or numbing source for dealing with something. And sometimes for 2 or 3 days you might need a few more calories and your body needs 'something' to keep going - I am usually short on sleep and using food to keep going when I really just need a nap. Hang in there.

Breastfeeding right after surgery?
Sosewsue61 replied to MizzNewLife's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not bring this up with hospital staff as many are biased, I have heard some people were told to wean or no surgery. But I would certainly bring my pump, and pump and dump for at least 24 hours because of anesthetic, if you only do IV Tylenol for pain meds after surgery that would not pose an issue, you don't want to take dilaudid and nurse, you could pump and dump for longer if you had to take that strong of a pain killer. your baby will bring your supply back once you are home with just more frequent nursings - but really really push fluids as much as you can this will be key to the milk supply plus you not getting dehydrated. Good luck. -
You notice, I never resorted to vitriolic name calling and judging, so can we just stop scratching the poison ivy now.

Yikes! Really terrible advice to stop taking depression medications - at least call your psych and get an IR version. I had mine switched to IR because of absorption with SR version. But at a week or more out swallowing pills should be okay just time release might need adjusting. Good luck.

I'm not likely to ask up front if I can offer up best wishes or prayers, if I feel strongly that the person is seeking comfort I give it in my own way. That is all anyone can do to show support. Now if I know you are allergic to bananas I won't bake you a banana cake, but from now on I won't offer the OP any cake. i am not bashing the OP or other like-minded posters about their right to believe or not believe in anything, but on the same hand they could also do the same and move on.

Victim of Office Politics
Sosewsue61 replied to Nnoi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ignore this coworker and go through the proper channels and regulations to schedule your surgery. Do not judge yourself for attending to your meical needs, if you needed a knee replaced because you were falling down stairs otherwise you would not even give this a second thought. Most work places really don't want anyone to take leave or vacation and even though they have to accommodate you, they can be real azzhats even if they let you - we have all worked for managers that are like that. It's great when you have an excellent manager, but that is not always the case. Just stop sharing info with those that do not need to know the details, and stick to business. Good luck. -
Ladies! I'll let you in on a little secret!
Sosewsue61 replied to TakingABreak's topic in The Gals' Room
I shop the Goodwill and St Vincent de Paul - I go to the 'higher end of the city' ones and find great stuff - I have a Bob Mackie dress and Caribbean Joe dress - paid $5, Ann Taylor tops $3.99. So if I skip the size it's not that painful. But I do have a Marshall's dress in the closet too! -
And more complications!
Sosewsue61 replied to Krizivester's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some aversions, not so much an allergy. Beef is harsh, white meat chicken, and lettuce in salads - nada. I can eat raw vegetables, spinach but lettuce no!! White chicken and beef just don't sit well, even deli meat beef is a no. So I eat thighs and pork ribs/chops, ground turkey. Eggs are okay.
