    Goldfish Eaters

You might want to seek therapy, we all have our food issues. I know some people that cannot trust themselves and have revised their food choices to be less palatable - not untaste-y - but not hyper flavor saturated as this lead to overconsumption every time.

Already have GERD, need sleeve advice

Have you had an EDG -esophagogastroduodenoscopy? That will show how much damage is present from gerd. I had a small amount but also had h pylori and was treated for that with 2 strong antibiotics. I have had minimal gerd and really just recently at 8 months out but handled with some meds.
  3. Yes, this is all normal. It will improve as you heal. It felt like swallowing gravel sometimes and everything felt stuck - that is swelling, that will go down and get better. Hang in there. Try room temp drinks, warm decaf tea, or sugar-free popsicles - at this stage fluids trump everything else. Rest, nap, and walking. Just do liquid protein for another week, yes it sucks - try clear protein drinks like ready-made blue raspberry Isopure diluted with crystal light lemonade. Good luck.
  4. Are you using an app on your phone? Logging is effing annoying, but no other way around it to keep track of protein goals, etc? Do you check your bank accounts? - same concept!!! Use Baritastic, ot LoseIt, or myfitnesspal or a small notebook - it doesn't matter which one, it's just a habit like brushing your teeth. Or take pictures of your small plate of food - easy peasy lemon squeeze-y.

    Gastric Bypass Reversal

I feel so bad for you for your situation, so sorry for all this suffering. I have no medical answers to give. I try to imagine what I would do, a few things cross my mind - get another bariatric doctor's opinion, take ALL your records, tests, everything to another doctor NOT in the same practice. I might consider a feeding tube to give my stomach and esophagus a rest, vitamin infusions - I think a couple other posters with extreme issues have had feeding tubes - it sucked but they did improve. Yes that is drastic, so is reversal - and it has no guarantee either. The unused portion of your stomach that was left in still produces acid and can get an ulcer - it has to be checked laparoscopically, I believe - ask. I wish you the best possible outcome, relief, healing and (((hugs - lots of hugs)))
  6. That incision is the most touchy because some nerves and muscles get disturbed more from the extraction. Try not to bend down too much for awhile, put an ice pack on it for 10 minutes, hold a small pillow against it when you get up from a deep soft seat or when rolling out of bed. It gets better but does take some time - we have no huge visible wounds to remind us to be careful and go slowly so we naturally think 'hey I feel pretty good' and overdo it. Pretend you had knee surgery and have a brace and lots of stitches...lol...you do - just inside!!! So be patient, take naps, it helps you heal. Good luck.

    New here and very nervous...

It is major surgery, but the percentage of complications is very low. You will most likely have an EGD as part of preop diagnostics and be put under for that, so you will experience being put under prior to surgery - then you will get an intro to anesthetic that way. Why did you choose bypass? Do you have reflux? Do you want the 'dumping aspect' as a deterrent to sweets? I am just curious.... Welcome and try to read the forums, and ask questions.

    Help!!!! Weight gain

You will feel like crap for a week while you detox from slider foods, but then substantially better after that. At least 60gr of protein, at least 64oz of water/fluids. Take your vitamins and calcium. How are your labs - iron especially? Get a full panel done. Schedule an appt with a nutritionist and maybe a therapist. Are you walking 10,000/day? Did you become sedentary lately? Menopause or peri-menopause? Use an app like Baritastic or myfitnesspal to track food and exercise. You can do this.

    I miss bread

No cheeses? Must be restricting the fat content - there are some decent lower fat cheeses, and mozzarella is one of them. I agree on the thick soups, i made my own with bone broth because it has more protein in it, added all kinds of veggies, and varied it with different spices. Peas, onions, celery, carrots, garlic with a dash of soy sauce in chicken broth for an oriental flavor. Green beans, white beans, garlic, onion, green pepper, tomato, chicken with basil, oregano, dash of parmesan for an italian flavor, etc. It made these early stages tolerable. Hang in there.

    Yay! Good for you!

People telling me what to do without had surgery

Most people ARE trying to be helpful, the rest are nosey and just can't resist giving advice. It's not lying to not share your personal medical file, it's really no one's business - I always say - 'I'm working with a nutritionist.' I don't care if anyone isn't satisfied with that answer, I don't need approval and certainly don't need disapproval or unwanted comments. You just open the door and they WILL walk right in. My 2 cents.
  12. Get more checked than a blood panel, it won't show everything - maybe you have a stricture or have h. Pylori or something else and need an antibiotic - just making suggestions here - ask to be scoped - I would. Good luck, hang in there.

    Oops! Changed my mind

The sleeve is working for me with the medication I take - Wellbutrin SR, I initially took IR right after surgery. I have trouble w IR - as it dumps too quickly and then I am in a crying puddle on the floor, and in an altered surgical besides, hmm - it wasn't pretty. It would be a logical conclusion that in the bypass because the small intestine is bypassed that medications/nutrients have less chance to absorb or breakdown, as that is exactly how that surgery is designed to work. Dosage and finding the 'right' psychiatric drugs are difficult in the first place, let alone considering malabsorption along with it. Good luck on your journey.

    Bowel Movement

Oh heck no to the oj or raisins, not at 6 days post-op!!!! Call your doctor's office, mine recommended colace, or miralax, or suppositories if you are miserably backed up.

    The plateaus

Actually your stall is not all that long, not saying it isn't annoying as heck. Try calorie cycling, a couple days a little lower, then a day higher, etc. On the low days eat only within an 8 hour window like intermittent fasting. Changing the foods around sometimes kicks it into gear, we tend to eat the same things after awhile. Try fish for a week, etc. Good luck.

    This didn't work for me

@Sleeved in DFW :-) You are doing amazing, and look wonderful. I am also a very slow loser, we just have to hang in there.. good luck.

    Never-ending period! Wth!

Get a full vitamin panel done. You could be deficient. Surgery can really disrupt all your hormones and be aggravating your already touchy system. Go see your gyn doc. Good luck.

    GOAL!!

Look at that defined waist - soo jealous!! Grand job, congrats!
  20. Your boys can eat meat/protein and vegetables that you cook for yourself - just add a side dish of pasta and a fruit. There is no reason to cook two separate meals. Use ground turkey for spaghetti sauce, and you skip the pasta. Bake a chicken and feed yourselves for several meals - chicken fajitas or tacos, and you have the meat and low fat refried beans. Just get creative with adding things for them.
  21. Some people are really bad at expressing themselves constructively, and others are out n out saboteurs. Beware of those 2nd ones, you will know if they continue this behavior a few months in, in the meantime rely on yourself and this forum and your surgeon's office. Maybe there is a wls support group near you? You may find friendships change drastically, true friends will be happy for your improved health and not negative or jealous. While it's sad if those friendships end, some of them preferred you to be miserable and to never change - seems weird doesn't it? You will be fine, and probably stronger as you discover your new health and new relationship with food. There are great things just waiting for you - grab on and don't look back.
  22. Get your notes out from surgery and go back to basics, get an app for tracking food - like Baritastic or myfitnesspal. Your surgeon's office can help find a therapist, or just make a dietician/checkup appointment. Don't be embarrassed - just start. Some physicians prescribe weight loss meds or other appetite suppressants for 3 months to get you jump started. Do whatever you have to in order to start being accountable. Dump the junk out, pour dish soap on it in the trash - you already bought it, so the money is gone don't let it cost you weight gain too. Then go shopping for some protein and vegetables, get a new fancy water bottle.....you can do it, you HAVE done it before.

    6 1/2 months out! (reenactment)

Congrats! 79#s is way awesome! And an amazing difference. I see collar bones!!!

    Am I going to fail?

Calm down. Here is your problem - you are grazing and not following the plan. Eat dense protein first, measure or weigh it out, then add 1/4 cup of vegetables and be done with your meal. Don't eat sandwiches - ditch the bread. RULE#1 - Protein in correct portions. 60grams or more. Chew slowly. No liquids during meals. RULE#2 - Eat at planned intervals, 3 meals plus 2-3 snacks. RULE#3 - Water at least 64oz. RULE#4 - No drinking until 30 minutes after eating. - There will be nonlinear weight loss, stalls, and hard work on this journey. You stated that you are not hungry but are eating anyway, if this continues you should seek some therapy, we have all had issues with food - physical restriction will only get the ball rolling, the head games we play to justify eating will doom you to failure unless you find a way to fix that. Good luck and keep posting.
  25. Just order two sets to begin with unless someone can take them in for you (relatively easy alteration for sewers in the family). Or get two in 1x and 2 in large to start out.
