You have lost total 23 according to your stats, and you have a low bmi, and weigh approx 180. You are not going to lose as fast as someone with a bmi of 40. And plateaus and stalls happen and sometimes the body adjusts to the initial weight loss by holding onto fluid while healing, trust the program your nutritionist put you on, if you stop losing for a lengthy time then have the NUT check your food journal and see if anything can be improved upon. Do you journal your food intake daily? That helps to determine what is working or not working.

bariatric coordinator issues

You notice I never called you any names, there is no reason for that type of thing.... -
Guess how much my surgeon's office wanted to charge my insurance?
Sosewsue61 replied to kordie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well in my state the reimbursement rate for people on state aid is horrid, hence the overcharging of people with insurance - not exactly a great way to recoup money, but our state requires all insurance to cover bariatric surgery. People on state aid insurance pay a whopping $386. I pay insurance premiums plus deductible, plus meet out of pocket cap - about $7800 total for the year (last year) - surgery total was over 60,000 billed to insurance. -
bariatric coordinator issues
Sosewsue61 replied to KRush88's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, I was a little snarky, I apologize for that. In my defense - nowhere did you say the coordinator was new to her job, your concern in the post seemed to concentrate on the insurance's response and not that paperwork was not submitted to them. As far as jealousy, nah.... I was trying to show that you were luckier than most people as far as waiting time and to not get so worked up. And you flat out asked how long the approval took, so yeah you did ask for my input!!! There was a question mark in there! LOL And you worked darn hard at that retort too, even took time to look up my birth year - 1955 - brava!! I am not miserable either. Anyway good luck on your surgery. -
Hmmm. This is a forum of wls people finding their way to goal in whatever manner works for them and seeking support and sometimes answers from the same pool that they are in. Since there is no way science has mastered the perfect way to do this, the vast experiment continues. I do think there is a lot of crap on here at times with some good advice. When I read about regains, it seems to be caused by our inability to control emotional eating or age-related metabolic changes that science hasn't helped us solve yet. Keto or lower carb plans DO WORK for many obese/formerly obese that regained, it's the not continuing a plan that derails people. There are some successes with moderate plans, but not as many long term wls people use that approach. i fail to see how getting riled up about any of it is productive. I also cannot give advice to any vet that has had a regain and wants to start over - I can encourage them. Since I am sleeved less than a year and in no position to tell a vet what plan works for them, as I am still figuring myself out.

Surgery 7/17 confused

Oh my goodness! Always follow your instincts, I am glad you went to the ER. I wish you a safe surgery and better recovery. -
These stalls are no joke!
Sosewsue61 replied to Bryn910's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sometimes there are no logical solutions to stalls, but we all feel 'doing something' is better than just waiting and waiting and waiting. People often lose inches during a stall so take some measurements - that's always a fun discovery. -

You are just 'buying trouble' by ruminating on someone doing their job. They don't usually schedule surgery unless they know they are going to get the pre-op requirements fulfilled. Professionals do have appointments booked solid most of the time and I am sure that that was the issue with the psych. You are lucky - the majority of us have to do 6 months of nutrition appointments, etc - so knock it off - the coordinator is familiar with how the insurance approval process works and how picky each type of insurance is. Most insurance approves quickly. Mine was approved in a couple days - but that was after jumping through many hoops for just over 6 months. And anyway, it's not like it can't be rescheduled a week later - some people have been waiting nearly a year to get the process approved. -
Being on the plane that's going to crash.
Sosewsue61 replied to CaribeRidge's topic in Rants & Raves
I guess this is one way of looking at it, but in all honesty the analogy isn't all that comparative to me. The chances of success for this surgery are better odds than the plane crash scenario. First of all there are skilled surgeons that have performed thousands of times under near similar circumstances, pilots DO NOT actually practice crash landing in real planes. Most people take lessons to learn to parachute from a plane - not in emergency situations. Just saying.. I get why you finished your husband's analogy that way though. He is kinda being a chit.... Tell him he could get to work by walking there or riding a horse. He uses a vehicle - a tool - is that the easy way out? Surgery is a more efficient tool for a broken metabolism. Would he tell someone NOT to have their knee replaced? Or not to have a c-section - aww just push that baby out the right way, don't take the easy way? Is surgery, any surgery the easy way? -
Surgery 7/17 confused
Sosewsue61 replied to swimmom2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are in the early post-op recovery stages. We all struggled to get in fluids at this early stage, relax. Take naps, that helps with healing and inflammation, you are recovering, it was major surgery. The walking helps with recovery - getting the digestive system working again, gettig rid of air and anesthetic from your system, etc. Try warm bone broth, warm tea, try sugar-free popsicles, vitamin water, protein water - your Nut is correct: sip, sip, sip constantly - dehydration can cause you to be tired and light-headed. You will most likely not meet protein goals these first few weeks, fluids are more important and then work on Increasing protein goals. The warm liquids first help relax your esophagus and stomach, one sip, wait, next sip, wait, etc. Easy does it will keep it from backing up on you so much, don't lie down immediately after, walk a little first. Hang in there, it improves fast after this 6 weeks. -
Ok your rant is justified and OVER. Some friends need us to remain the 'broken friend that needs fixing' because of their own issues. Find new supportive friends. Here are couple things to think about - she was this way before you contemplated surgery - why were you keeping her a friend then? What purpose was she serving you as that friend? That is not a 'surface question'. I hope you get or are still in therapy, this is a tough business and surgery will only solve one issue - physical restriction. Join a bariateic support group also. The head stuff is head stuff and requires way more work to solve. Concentrate on your internal struggle with your demons - whatever they are. Good luck.

Before and After Pics

@redhead_che Are you sure that is you!!!! LOL WOW AND WOW! -
Thank you for sharing your success. I wish you continued improved health, and to reach your goal. How was your Barrett's and GERD after surgery? And now?
-
You are 22, you had surgery last month? Have you been in therapy previously? I am concerned about this desperate post less than a month out from surgery. If your family and surgeon are aware of your past they need to direct you into ongoing therapy. This surgery is not magic, it is one piece of a complex puzzle, it will not fix your head. We all have varying degrees of issues with food, self-esteem, abuse, emotional issues and surgery won't fix those. It is hard work, but work we must do and keep doing. Success depends on all those elements working together. You CAN do this, reach out to your surgeon's office and ask for therapy and attend a support group. Good luck.

Some swelling has went down, that is likely what you are experiencing. Stalls happen - and changing food stages means a few adjustments in that area, our bodies are healing and adapting to all this, we retain fluid to heal inflammation, we aren't always eliminating regularly either. Be patient. This is a long process, the rest of your life actually. Follow the rules, track your food, drink your fluids, learn. It takes time to get the 'full message'. That is why we eat slowly, chew well and wait. I get a runny nose, hiccups, or sneeze. Don't keep eating waiting for that stuffed feeling, take your time. You will feel it more by eating your dense protein first, followed by a few bites of vegetables. Trust it.

How do you do 30/30 week 1?
Sosewsue61 replied to Laura7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
30/30 does not apply in this stage or until you get to soft foods. The name of the game right now is liquids all day long because you do not want to get dehydrated, since we can only take sips and not gulps you have to work at this nonstop to get in enough liquids. The protein goals are hard to reach at week one, push fluids. Calories at this stage are not an issue, grams of protein via protein shakes or protein waters are the goal along with 64oz of liquids. Sip sip sip - protein drinks, water, sf popsicles, broth, tea.... -
These foods in this stage are mainly to help you learn to tolerate something with a little texture so you can continue to heal and be slightly more satisfied. Only try a spoon at a time and wait in between bites. We all have different tolerance levels. I preferred cream soups blended thinned with bone broth for some protein.
-
The saliva is what is known as 'the foamies' or 'slimes' and totally normal phase - it will subside over the next few weeks. It can also happen when you take one too many bites and your stomach wants to 'reject' that bite. Alternate warmed liquids w sugar free popsicles.

Obsessed with checking myself out!
Sosewsue61 replied to dathvick's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Woohoo you look great! Check away!! -
Try warm tea, warm bone broth instead of water, I don't understand why no protein water or protein shakes???? The warmth will help relax the esophagus and stomach a little. And alternate with sugar free popsicles, also helps. You are hungry, your body isn't getting any nutrition - you will feel better once you do full liquids and get fluids up, promise. It felt like swallowing aquarium gravel for a couple weeks from inflammation.

2017 Study: "Bariatric surgery patients vulnerable to opioid dependence"
Sosewsue61 replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks @Missouri-Lee's Summit no she still has a cane, and cannot do hours of walking even with that and meds. A surgeon cut one leg shorter than the other, made a mess even a another surgeon could not completely make it right....horrible. There are more details but that is enough of an idea for consideration. -
So most surgeons aren't educated on fitness and not even much on nutrition, especially the specialists - they become experts in their area - as they should. He could be very culturally opinionated, I am not excusing his opinions but all of us are subject to our upbringing, culture, and our education as presented. You could mention it if you feel that strongly about it, just be more diplomatic than he was...lol

This is normal pre-surgery jitters, everyone gets it. Get a good massage, pamper yourself, take a long walk and a good soak. Get a new book to read. I second that taking a photograh idea, take your measurements too. Start a journal for your emotions. Also load an app on your phone for tracking food and exercise and learn how to use it now. Baritastic or myfitnesspal are free. Good luck. You got this.

Put a heating pad on it intermittently and/or warm compress. It is likely nerve endings and muscles - they pulled around in there and stitched stuff up and you are straining that before it has HEALED. You are not healed, so quit trying to do too much all at once - ask for help. Rest and allow your body to heal.
