    None of Your Business!

Tell them as little as possible to shut them up...' I have a minor hernia/digestive issue that is going to be taken care of, nothing to be concerned about' Or - 'your concern is so nice, I assure you I am fine, what about those Cubs?' 'How is the coleslaw, my gall bladder reacts terribly to it but i love it, excuse me I want to go talk to Uncle Fred before he passes out, what a character.' Work only needs to see your leave paperwork and your Dr.'s leave excuse but NOT the type of procedure.

  5. You might try to find liquid prenatal vitamins for absorption.
  6. If you can't get in your 60gr w food, you need to continue w the protein drinks to keep your numbers up or you will lose muscle and your hair will fall out faster....especially on less than 500 calories. You cannot go by hunger, you can't - I still rarely am hungry. I get faint if I don't eat, so plan eating and eat even if not hungry - you need nutrition.

OK, so what's going on 6wks out

Hormones get seriously disrupted from this surgery, sometimes takes a year for them to swing back to normal so your period could be unpredictable for quite some time. Yes, you will have smell aversions, food aversions and other weirdness. Most of these go away in a few months but not all. And anyone's guess as to which ones too!!! It's a very interesting science experiment. When i am full I get a runny nose, hiccups or sneeze or 2 of those, in the beginning my nose ran so much it was embarassing, now it's mainly hiccups w slight runny nose lol I still am not crazy about chocolate or anything super sweet - gagging.
  8. Yes, I had several food aversions early on....anything chocolate, like sf chocolate pudding made me barf and I tolerate a little now, but not that crazy about it anymore. A few months after surgery this dissipates somewhat. There are other weird things though - when I am full I get a runny nose, hiccups, or sneeze. I now stop eating sooner because I can tell before those things happen that 'soon' one will appear...lol hiccups are the norm now, but not unusual to get 2 of the 3 symptoms.

    Decreased Libido after My VSG

Zoloft is killing your sex drive, I am not suggesting no medication but maybe something else - ask your doctor. As far as vitamins - some doctors allowed 2 Flinstone's chewables and they are relatively cheap at Walmart.

HELP!!! What's Tea with this coping mechanism bs

If consuming food fixed my anxiety or problems, boy howdy!!! I would be a marketing genius. I can see the print ad now - 'You don't need therapy or a prescription - grab the Blue Bunny Chocolate Swirl and melt away your anxiety.' I am not mocking you, I used food to get away from feeling what I actually just needed to feel and examine. The food didn't fix anything, it was still right there and still needed solving, it didn't help me, it just made me fatter and LESS healthy, less happy about myself. I struggle yet - not going to lie about it. I journal, I come to this forum, I vent to people I trust, I sew, I take a nap....and sometimes I still eat a cookie - but not even close to my previous use of food as a fixer. I dance. I am a square, contra, and round dancer - I danced way before I had surgery but I am much lighter on my feet now. Dancing is a great stress relief. I belong to a gym, but would not call myself a gym rat, nor do I use it to keep myself from eating - I use it to build muscle, hold my joints steady, gain flexibility. You will need to figure yourself out, maybe with therapy or even some books, only you know what your problems are from or where they came from. And only you can fix them. Good luck. We are all a work in progress.

    Beyond frustrated!!!! Just venting

Ok. I would be annoyed as well. Every office has an office manager and a manager above that, etc. Research your clinic/parent company and complain higher up the ladder, or show up tomorrow at the clinic with these dates of 'no response' written up in the form of a complaint. Be polite but be FIRM. Ask specific questions: what days does the surgeon do surgery? How many surgeries/day or week are done? How many are currently scheduled? What is the next available date? Tell them - I have a life too, work too, I need to know the date so I can be responsible in notifying those affected by my abscenses and YOU are being irresponsible in your duties by not 1) returning my calls in a timely manner, as promised. 2) not sending paperwork as promised on two separate occasions 3) not having this office follow up with all the above regarding scheduling Do I have to have a conversation with your immediate supervisor or your immediate supervisor's boss? Or write a letter or email? Speaking of email, I use it frequently instead of phone calls because then there is a definite paper trail and not 'he said, she said'
  12. Pics please!!! Congrats on year 2!!!

Would I be able to lose weight?

To the OP: - there are no magic formulas, it still takes food restriction, exercise and figuring out what works for you. The surgery is a HUGE part of making that more manageable. You don't elaborate on what you tried in the past or for how long? For me, I had lost weight on Weight Watchers and then gained it back. With the sleeve I have great physical restriction with little appetite so it is easier to make better choices - I still could make bad ones though if I choose to.

weight loss halt while still overweight

The take away from your question is this - after either surgery this still requires the work of YOUR mind and YOUR body, there is no magic. The surgery is a big aspect of the process, you will be eating less food and more nutritious food for life plus being more active. The surgery is physical restriction with some hormone disruption and in the case of bypass malabsorption. No one can compare your individual progress against another person's journey because there are just too many factors, that is why on here we always say 'you have to work the program that works for you' AND 'be willing to adapt it during the process'. It is a good surgery and nearly everyone has success at it more than just traditional weight loss with regards to KEEPING the weight off long term. As far as the number of people converting to bypass after having the sleeve, I don't have actual statistics but usually the successful sleevers have mastered their program and moved on from the boards, and those with more problems stick around looking for help, so it appears the percentage is huge for conversions. UPDATE: One study said 8 out of 73 converted after an average of 33 months from being sleeved.
  15. Our bodies react to high consumption of sugar, and the kidneys react too. Sugar makes the pancreas pump out insulin in response, so the liver isn't the only organ affected by sugar/carbs. Do some reading. And your taste buds getting accostumed to all that sugar makes you just want more sugar. Is it the taste of artificial sweetners that made you not drink liquids? Try broth or tea instead.

    I’ve got questions

From any reading on the boards, if insurance covers some skin removal plastic surgeons can charge just that portion to insurance and bill you for the remainder, anesthesiologist would be a covered portion, muscle tightening not covered, etc.
  17. I think Jess9395 makes very valid points. Nothing can save a truly doomed marriage. Both people need healthy attitudes and open communication. If you want bigger boobs, then get bigger boobs - if the side effect is a more attentive husband then great - you may also get more male attention in general - are you okay with that part? - is he okay with that part too? So many questions to answer.

    Sleeping after surgery

I slept in the recliner two nights, then my bed with extra pillows. It was awhile before I could comfortably side sleep though.
  19. Two nights - I had surgery and the next day the barium swallow. And then I had to be able drink 4oz in an hour before I could go home - so one more night.

    What to tell coworkers?

I don't understand the need to tell coworkers, even a supervisor - other than - surgery - and fill out medical leave and be done with it. People are too nosey, too opinionated - they have all kinds of opinions, advice, scrutiny, comments and even if they publicly seem supportive - believe me they have private opinions that might surprise you. You do not need this validation/acceptance/scrutiny, etc. If you tell they will be watching you and watching you. Do you broadcast a hysterectomy or prostrate surgery? Medical issues are no one's business. Do you share your checkbook balance or what you do in the bedroom? These days it seems like we are perpetually on Jerry Springer with the over sharing.

    Eating Out and Travel

Well ask before you order about oils or how it is cooked, ask for soft scramble. Soup is always a good choice as long as it is not greasy, not french onion, etc. Chicken salad as a scoop, an appetizer like meatballs, cottage cheese and fruit, etc.
  23. You can try upping calories to 900 for a few days, increase water beyond the 64ozs, and sometimes it just takes more time. It's more like a long distance jog than the 50yd dash.
  24. At that stage I ate nuts, cashews helped with constipation, but I ate raw almonds as well.

    Dry skin

Mine is dry too, extremely dry. I usually use Nivea, but it isn't have much effect. I bought Bio-Oil but misplaced it and was only trying it on my face and neck - I better find it and try it on everything! (I have recently been told I am a miserable old hag, so I better hurry up and find it)
