    Weight loss

I too could lose weight with weight watchers, over and over again. The surgery provides physical restriction plus a reduction in cravings and hunger. The reminder of restriction is always there, and you get satisfied much easier if you relax about food. You have to get your head wrapped around not needing quantity, you have to not use food for emotional support and dig inside yourself. You might be able to do that on your own, but I couldn't sustain that.

    Cancer

    Thanks for this information.
  3. I go reconnect with your nutritionist and physician, get some bloodwork done to see where you are nutritionally, etc. I would try carb cycling, or intermittent fasting before doing shakes. Go higher cals w some complex carbs for two days, then drop to 800 cals high protein for 3 days, eat in an 8 hour window only, go back up in cals for 1 day, then back down. Shake it up. We can get into a rut eating the same foods and amounts in a routine and the body won't nudge any pounds. Good luck. Keep us posted.

    Worried about my wife

@Biggamehunter if you are expecting tea and sympathy from bariatric patients by refusing to believe a good percentage of the forum didn't need surgery you are the wrong place - your struggle with your concern of your wife's appearance being a medical issue is overshadowed by your opinions that surgery wasn't necessary in her case when it was clearly her decision to make. Plus 250 is MORBIDLY OBESE, 200 is OBESE, 150 is normal. Many of us have lost weight only to regain it right back because we have - metabolic issues, have been overweight for years, have food issues and consider this surgery as a tool to assist in all those things. It is never so simple as you make it seem - diet and exercise, no surgery. Well it is a moot point, we have tried to get you to accept that and yet you refuse. Over and out
  5. Be prepared for unusual resistance if she is not in favor of this, she may see it as a rejection of herself by you. Things will change, it WILL change the relationship. Be prepared to cook your own food, and get therapy because she will eat food you cannot have and may do this intentionally. You will have to develop some thick skin. Seek therapy starting now. You are the only one in control of yourself and your choices. Be strong and godspeed my friend.
  6. All inclusive in Cuba does not mean all Cuban cuisine because tourists do not exclusively eat Cuban dishes, there will be plenty of roasted/grilled/baked protein choices and vegetables and fruit, and many buffets are self-serve or they will ask how much to carve. I did a cruise with a buffet and had no issues. You might not want to mix shakes with the local water though? What resort is it, an inernational one?
  7. We all have 'a lot going on', every single one of us has turned to food to sooth or 'fix' something. But it fixes NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH!!! You are using it as a crutch or excuse. And please - giving food away excuse, you already spent the money, it's gone, if you can't afford to buy them, don't buy them. There is no shortage of food, you do not need these. 3oz turkey 24gr protein 146 calories 1 egg 6gr pr 78 cals 1/2 c cottage cheese 13 gr pr 82 cals 1/2 tuna 20gr pr 90 cals 6oz greek yogurt 17gr pr 100 cals
  8. Welcome to 'the other side'!!! Try warm broth or tea, then alternate with sf popsicles - hydration is the name of the game right now. A heating pad on your tummy while laying down feels great. You may find intolerances to your favorite shake after being sleeved, I could barely tolerate thick shakes ad went for clearerversions Isopure ready-made blue raspberry diluted w crystal light lemonade worked better for me. You will weather this stage and in 4 weeks won't give any of today's misery a thought!

    Missing Food

Sorry you are having 'food breakup' problems!!! I don't watch commercial tv, or go on pinterest for food either. I do get involved in decorating sites, vintage clothes, quilting, etc. I suggest you get a hobby or something instead of looking at food as being your 'friend'. I still like food, but it is not a main focus anymore. It's not like you won't ever be able to eat again, this is a stage and just part of the process you have to accept. Good luck.

    The good, bad and unemployed

I will say prayers for you💞 I use Baritastic App myself.
  11. Medically supervised says it all, she has to see a doctor and/or a nutritionist and they have to put her on a medically supervised diet that fails. She might need to maintain a certain bmi - like 40 or some plans say 35 - 40 with comorbidities. I can't know what the policy says you must be to qualify for consideration. PCOS would not be comorbidity but high blood pressure, sleep apnea would be two that usually are. My policy said i could lose weight but not gain any during the 6 months. I had to also keep a walking journal to prove commitment. Your policy should be online and you can get answers via email by asking very specific questions rather than random oral inquiries. Ask - what Medically Supervised, does that mean a physician, nurse practioner, nutritionist. Do I have to fail completely or if i lose weight does that disqualify me, do I have to maintain s certain bmi, what comorbidities qualify, do I have to keep a food journal, do I have to have 6 appointments exactly one month apart, if I gain am i disqualified, etc. They have to answer written questions. Good luck.

    One year post op PICS

Whoa! Shereen you look amazing girl!
  13. Did you get an EDG scope for a hernia? That might qualify you. I would gain some weight rather than risk my house, or do the travel for surgery to another state or Mexico. You could try the sleep apnea study, the EDG, gain some weight and put rolls of quarters in your jean pockets, weighin in jeans, heavy shoes and do the 6 months, honestly 6 months goes fast. It would only be 21 pounds to 40 bmi.

    The good, bad and unemployed

Good for you for your positive attitude. Can you take your 401k/severance and pay stuff off so your credit rating can go back up? Maybe look into a real estate license course since that business is now doing quite well these days. You don't say the line of work, I am assuming sonething in finance, or jewelry or something. But your money skills wood blend well with real estate, title company for real estate, etc. And the hours are somewhat flexible. Good luck.

    Worried about my wife

Well, I can be blunt - I am retired IT and we like to get logical 1's and 0's. You are angry. Now maybe this is the emotion you display when worried, if that is the case you are probably displaying it in that manner to your wife too. It won't help the situation (and I would tune you out.) The decision was made, the surgery is over, the weight loss is the result, the body changes are right in front of you in black and white. As far as a medical issue, there could certainly be some issues since food is making her sick. The unused stomach portion left in can develop an ulcer, she can develop malnutrition and vitamin/mineral deficiencies. Has there been a full blood workup for bariatric patients? What was the result? Has she had a scope to check anything internal? Is her skin overly dry, dry brittle hair/nails, how are her teeth/gums, etc? Is she tired ALL the time? These questions/answers are real evidence, not skinny legs and loose skin. At 10 months she should be able to consume more calories than you state unless an issue is preventing the consumption. Is she sick immediately following certain foods - does she have her gall bladder ( I might have missed that on your post)? Does she take any NSAIDS or pain meds? Does she take acid reflux meds or other meds - thyroid, anti-depressants? She could have food aversions, not uncommon with wls patients. Gather more hard evidence when you make a concerned case, but be kind when giving the facts.

Please tell me it gets better...

This still could be acid reflux, or a slight stricture - you are still healing. Are you taking a PPI, ask your doc.You can also ask for an anti-nausea patch like scopolamine, doesn't hurt to ask. Try warm or room temp items, or alternate w sf popsicles. The warm liquid relaxes the muscles. You had a lot of issues, hernia, scar tissue, etc - it will take longer than an uncomplicated surgery to heal and progress. Hang in there.

    Need something..

It sucks, but really 23 is so young to help parent someone else's children. I know that sounds harsh but that is the type of relationship you need to seek next time around - after you do your own work on yourself - you have a big task ahead of you and need all your reserves for that. Come on here to talk to 'us', we can cheer you on and let you vent when you need to. Good luck dear.

    Hairloss with vsg

It can feel like a reason to not get surgery, but it isn't - it grows back. Mine started thinning prior to surgery just because of aging, and I had/have hair loss. I got a perm before surgery - it helps plump it up, plus volumizing mousse, and a little shorter cut. New hairs are coming in around the hairline and it will take awhile to grow out but holy chit - I wear size 10 jeans and shouted it out in Macy's dressing room yesterday - how cool is that!

    Losing too much!

I am sure this seems fatalistic, but probably is not. Your body is recovering from surgery and needs to heal, you don't say what you are eating daily - just the calorie count. Eat a few more carbs, a potato, some winter squash, some heavier soups like chowder, the liquids will go down easy enough, sprinkle a little cheese on some eggs, cream cheese stirred into soups, etc. Good luck.

    Plastic surgeon recommendation please

In order for any insurance to cover a panniculus, your doctor needs to document the rashes, the back ache, mobility limitations from the skin, and the panni must hang down 3" below the pubis usually. But many insurances do not cover this type of plastic surgery at all. IF they cover it it usually is 6 months of documentaion, and not the full tummy tuck where they tighten the muscles and make it look all symmetrical - but the surgeon could do that and you pay the difference of the two surgeries.

    Which way is right

Take each new stage slowly, a tiny taste at a time, and wait, and only take a couple bites. Any real food introductions need to be done slowly to see how your stomach will react, as you are not healed. It is different for everyone.
  23. 8- days Pffft! 4 weeks! I would never be able to wait 4 weeks. Just sayin' How sore are your incisions - abdomen? I would go by that. No gymnastics and no crazy positions. I suggest side-by-side or some other 'not much full frontal' contact position. You can always abandon the attempt ya know and go for a 'different' creative finish.

    Starting my final attempt

I guess I'm confused by your situation - you are just starting the process to get wls? Like in the seminar/initial appointment with the surgeon's office? But it is your 3rd attempt? You backed out twice, or where denied approval or something? Backed out at what point and why? I was 'hot damn excited' to go to my 1st appointment because I CHOSE to get surgery. I was nervous to jump through all the hoops for 6 months, and nervous about the actual surgery a bit. You CAN DO THIS. You want to do this or you wouldn't be making this third attempt. Get on the horse and ride into town woman!!! Go girl go!

    Hot flash after food

Beef is hard for me to digest as well. I rarely eat it now. It feels like a huge harsh lump and so uncomfortable. I eat chicken, turkey, pork steak, fish...
