  1. This is monumental, after 10 months I can finally tolerate lettuce. It no longer slimes up...lol
  2. It's from anesthetic, do your breathing exercises. Do your walking to get the gas out that they filled the abdominal cavity with to inflate organs in order to get to your stomach. Sleep propped up a little. But walk first.

    3 weeks post op

@photogirl70 Yes, but the OP has not progressed past liquids, so introducing solids FIRST would be a horrid suggestion. Her stomach is only used to liquid and no one can predict the reaction based on what a plan allows. Take it slowly, some thicker pureed soups, refried beans, cottage/ricotta cheese, yogurts, then pureed meats, soft baked fish. Only try a teaspoon at a time and wait 5 minutes, then another teaspoon. Progress from there.

    Is this normal

Sorry you are feeling aggravated by all this. Congrats on surgery success and the weight loss. Please keep your fluids up, try some soups, sf popsicles, warm tea. Warm ginger tea might help the nausea just before you eat, eat really slowly and frequently. Add some good fats like avocado, and a tablespoon or two of vegetables, some cheese, refried beans. Also acid reflux can cause nausea, take a pepcid and see if that helps a little. Good luck.

    Feeling depressed today

I don't do pasta anymore, and really have just moved past it, the sauce is so good just with a meatball, or a shrimp dish, scallops, veal or chicken dish with a veg. Eat really slowly....enjoy the company. Become gourmet, only eat the best because it's only a few bites, take the rest home - anyone can have bread - but mmm veal scaloppini...
  6. I use Baritastic, I am not a diligent 3x/day tracker unless I am in a stall. I tend to eat similarly from day to day, if I am not traveling. Traveling screws up my eating plans. I actually detest tracking for the most part but consider it a means to an end and just try to do it and forget about it.

    Just need to vent/cry

Sorry for your misery, most people really have no idea how this effects us when we are struggling so much. Acid reflux can cause nausea too, are you on anything for that? Gall bladder can make you sick too. Try some warm liquid 10 minutes before eating. It takes longer for some people to heal, I hope it resolves soon for you. Keep going to the doc.

  9. So sorry this happened to you, and unfortunately it happens too much among professionals that damn well know better. Write that letter and spare the next patient that doesn't have your strength to bear this. If they talked about you like this, it is very likely a part of this office's culture and needs to end. The letter needs to go to the office manager and the surgeon, not the offending parties. I would stress that since the conversation was so blatantly mutual among the parties that this cannot possibly be an isolated occurrence. Ask for discipline to be brought against them, nothing less than discipline will put an end to it, suggest transfers even, add that you are copying your state regulators. I know this sounds extreme but it happens too often. (Someone in my surgeon's office doesn't want to work with the bariatric patients because she 'can't stand them' - well guess what? She sure as hell isn't working with them because she is gone)
  10. Regarding the replaced knees, they match your bone size not your fat amount when they pick the device - so that is not the problem. Now having ruled that out, YES - I am having issues with my TKR I had 9 years ago. Xray did not reveal that it is loose, bursa inflammed and two shots in a month has not really settled it down. Shin splint pain, leg cramps, some sharp pains when changing from sitting to standing, extreme direction change w sharp pain. I only have theories - muscle loss not keeping it stable, scar tissue rubbing on nerves since the fat is not there for cushioning, vitamin/mineral deficiency, strained muscle inflammation? My next appt w ortho is Sept 10 - if I can hold out that long, yesterday was a bad day. I am prone to leg cramps and take a magnesium supplement called Triple Calm - it is 3 absorable magnesium salts, works great most of the time for that issue. He said a bone scan would be next, so maybe ask your ortho if any of my theories could be in the running...

    The Thrill Is Gone

Yes - no buffets lol, what for a dessert plate of protein and two cherry tomatoes! Ha ha. Eating out is not much of a destination anymore, neither is planning what to take to a potluck. Food is still yummy, but just not at all the focus. I think I could still peruse the plastic surgery shows, but I have no time to just waste lately. I gave up 90% of facebook 2 years ago - waste of brain cells, does not enhance my life at all, not missed. I am too busy sewing or square dancing or just 'doing' things. Right now I am on a mission to purge my house of unwanted crap, the less I have to take care of the more time I will gain to have experiences.

    Feeling Lost

The pouch reset is bs, just keep following the plan. Track your food and liquids, weight loss is not linear, this is a long haul and get your head wrapped around that and you will be fine. I stalled for 3 months, but dropped 2 sizes in clothing. Lord it was torture, but then 12 pounds came off, the body fat distribution changed too - my stomach fat finally started going going down - yay! This journey will try your patience, but learn what works for you - you are the only one that can figure that out.
  13. The fluids and fat shift around, the body is healing, your intestines are adjusting to solid food - drawing liquid, etc. This will happen all throughout the journey. Stalls will happen, but usually you will lose inches during a stall, even clothing sizes will drop then. Up your liquid intake and in a few days things will even out.

What kind of seafood is okay week 5?

Shrimp is too fibrous, some baked fish in white sauce so it is moist, you will only be able to eat 2-3 oz at most, eat very slowly because our stomachs can be weird with new foods .

    I have 2 fears

Ask for scopolamine patch for nausea, they put it on before you go down to surgery. Works amazingly well.

    2nd Week post op

@ttj3mom - too soon for fruit or crackers... Try lots of bone broth with cooked carrot or sweet potato, white beans and tiny amount of chicken pureed in blender, little spoon, eat slowly. Wait in between bites.

    Today was a big milestone

Oh my goodness, you look so great!
  18. Ask what type of anesthetic they are using. I had hella pain after knee replacement, nausea etc. For VSG -they used propofol, it wears off quickly and they gave me scopolamine patch before surgery for nausea - I had NO nausea after this surgery. For pain ask for 1000mgr tylenol in IV form, I would NEVER consider tylenol to work that well but in an IV at that dose, it was great. if that doesn't take care of it all ask for some dilaudid to go with it. Good luck.

    6 days post op STARVING

Your body is hungry. True hunger is okay, you are not consuming enough calories yet and all these adjustments take time while you heal. Try some bone broth, I used to cook up vegetables and meat in mine and then blend and strain it - tastes so much better than sweet shakes. Once you do pureed food you will feel more satisfied and much better physically. Acid reflux can feel like hunger, so you might need a ppi, pepcid or something. Ask your doc or try something to see if that helps. Hang in there, this will be a distant memory soon.
  20. Yes plus sizes are deceiving and mostly knit fabrics. It also depends on your shape and where you predominately hold your fat. I carry it mainly in my stomach and forever it wasn't budging. So I have skinny legs, no bum. Sometimes it takes awhile for all the fat, fluid to shift around, the body needs time to adjust. I find during a long stall I will just melt inches. Just this past week my boobs are just f****** flat azz pancakes 😭 and now my abdomen is now a wrinkly sharpei puppy, finally! My niece on the other hand has a small waist, huge hips, slim face, and a big bum, so she would shrink differently than me. I shop at Goodwill and St Vincent de Paul and LOVE filling my closet with those thrifty items as I drop sizes. So much fun! You will get there. Congrats on your journey so far!

    Tummy Tuck without Muscle Reconstruction

I know nothing about hernia mesh repairs, but 2nd opinions are always a good idea. Good luck with your inquiries and keep us posted.

    I got cocky

I cannot eat two eggs at 10 months! One. I still slime if i eat too fast, or one too many bites. You have to slow down and learn to quit early. It takes practice, I know!!!! You will learn quickly or suffer more...lol We have all had that lesson.

Has anyone tried any types of bread??

Even at 10 months out, I eat one piece of rye toast w avocado with my egg for breakfast. It has to be toasted. Bread just balls up to gunk in my sleeve if not toasted and feels really uncomfortable to me, wraps don't work either. I eat a corn shell taco, a few triscuits here and there, and one square of thin crispy pizza. That is it for bread products. I don't eat pasta, have had a tablespoon of rice. Rice is tricky, it actually expands more as it gets wet. I really don't miss sandwiches per se, at first it felt weird but is just routine now. For road food, I carry P3 meat n cheese packs, cold cooked chicken thighs, pea pods, hard boiled eggs, cherry tomatoes. I really don't tolerate lettuce very well either, slimey and wants to come back up no matter how well I chew it - that I do miss. I use thin bell pepper strips in my taco instead. I don't think I am suffering much while I wear size 10 jeans, and looking forward to size 8, then 6......lol

How often do you weigh in?

I weigh daily, I always have. You have to have the mindset that there are stalls and fluctuations.
  25. Thank all of you for sharing these brave details, and the honesty. My hubby is 6ft and 168 soaking wet. Second marriage for both married 21+ yrs to each other and each 18 yrs previously - I know he appreciates me as i was/am but I also know that physical attraction is part of it always. He has never seen me at a normal weight, he is my total cheerleader, cabana-boy, and all around exceptionally decent man. I expect he will find new joy in the skinnier me because I will be enjoying it myself too - especially after plastics and i get new 'fun bags'....lol I hope all of you get to goal, find good relationships with love and have a blast finding it all out....
