Do not overstock protein shakes. Yes, don't over buy supplement or vitamins either - my bariatric ones made me barf. There are plenty of stores that stock individual ones. Bone broth with some celery and carrots cooked in and then strained tasted the best. Sweet shakes were a 'no' after surgery - I could tolerate Isopure ready-made blue raspberry or punch diluted w crystal light lemonade much better. Good luck.

STD didn’t pay me for my band to sleeve revision
Sosewsue61 replied to 3nuthut's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Get the dr office to resubmit with an acceptable code, appeal, appeal appeal. Get insurance coordinator from bariatrics to help - tell them if they don't you will be seeking reduced payments - it is in their interests of getting paid to help you repeal this. Don't give up. -
Good for you! Looking good!

Very painful gas, bloating and constipation
Sosewsue61 replied to Irwin's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Miralax/stool softeners/suppositories and more walking and liquid. And yes whey protein was very constipating for me. The early weeks were miserable due to constipation, gentle belly massage might help too. It may be this way until you get on regular foods, less shakes. When I was able to eat - I found a serving of cashews a godsend for relieving constipation. -
Does my pouch need stretched by the dr?

Three tablespons is about right at this stage. Time and healing will relax it. -
Questions before surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to MassMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had no catheter and after recovery was able to use the restroom with some assistance to get out of bed. You get pain meds in the IV and a glucose drip if needed. You will be fine. Ask for a scopolamine patch for nausea before they administer the anesthetic, works great. Good luck. -
It is not that simple as calories in, calories out, some experts even debunk the whole calorie thing. And we don't lose in a linear fashion. You are healing, you have to get the gut bacteria to normal, there are some intetesting theories on gut bacteria, how it regulates hunger and metabolism. The body reacts to reduced calories by conserving energy so you won't perish. It is a mix of factors, genetics, the macros you are consuming, etc. Do some reading on gut bacteria and metabolism, leaky gut, etc...interesting stuff. In the meantime, relax and figure out what works for your body, it is a long journey.

How do you get in enough fluids and Protein post op?

Medicaid pre-surgery weight loss
Sosewsue61 replied to Memoiandi's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't assume. State plans change frequently depending on contracts. You should be able to login online to your state's website and read the requirements, email specific questions and get answers. Email is written documentation and faster than phone calls. Your physician's insurance coordinator has likely dealt with the state requirements and knows the 'ins and outs' of getting approval. Good luck. -
Gastric Bypass-No Weight Lost

What Matt Z said....just push liquids, maybe take a stool softener. Early on constipation is an issue for most of us. -
Feeling Guilty: Who's life do I save? Mine or my daughters?
Sosewsue61 replied to Last Resort's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Last Resort you are in Illinois and it is one of the states that requires insurance cover bariatric surgery, even state medicaid patients can get it - they only pay for nutrition appts ($385 total). So your daughter could get a job that covers it in the near future. You should def do the surgery so your health can have the best chance to improve. Don't pass up the opportunity. Good luck. https://www.insure.com/health-insurance/weight-loss-surgery.html -
Bariatric macro calculators
Sosewsue61 replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Can do the same with Baritastic app as well. -
You are healing and early on a lot of things produce reactions. The gut flora has been disturbed, it will likely not be the same from week to week. I dumped w sf chocolate pudding and to this day just the thought of it gives me the creeps 😆. Just stick with what works for now and time will tell if this is a permanent reaction. Some have developed lactose intolerance and sometimes from rapid weight loss the gall bladder can be causing these reactions. Take food introductions slow and easy. Good luck, it's a learning process.

6 weeks out, now ready to eat "normal" foods...Questions inside
Sosewsue61 replied to CyclicalLoser's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Everyone's tolerance for regular food is different, and the only way to know is to try a tiny amount and 'wait and see' what it feels like. I am one that could not tolerate beef until now at10 months out but ground turkey was okay. Chicken breast is too stringy, I prefer thighs. I can just now tolerate lettuce as well. Bread unless toasted just gunks up, the same with tortillas, I do not eat pasta. I eat one slice of rye toasted with avocado and an egg for bf. Even a spoon of rice at first just expanded in the sleeve and was uncomfortable, I can tolerate a spoonful now but it hardly seems worth it to me - nutritionally it doesn't add much anyway. I indulge in some triscuits and cheese, deli turkey. Good luck. -
Prayer! If you do not believe in prayer, do not click on this post..

Hang in there. Keep sipping, try sf popsicles, bone broth, tea. It is most important to be hydrated rather than meet entire protein goals right now. Rest, walk, and heal. It progresses faster after the 1st month.

Questions about your experience with the Sleeve
Sosewsue61 replied to KymmerShimmer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1. What made you choose the Sleeve over the Lap Band? never considered the band, big failure rate, erosion issues 2. Have you had Hair loss with the Sleeve? some hair loss, but new hairs growing back in now 3. What can you absolutely NOT eat now with the Sleeve? beef is a little harsh, stringy meat. what I refuse to eat - pasta, most breads, doughnuts, frosting, seldom rice, I don't really care for chocolate much anymore 4. At what point did you know you made the right decision with the Sleeve surgery? when I kept hearing about rny patients needing iron infusions, getting ulcers in the unused stomach portion 5. What as been the best tool you've used in keeping your weight loss progressing? the physical restriction of the sleeve, my mind accepting the journey, tracking with Baritastic app, my SIP by S'Well water thermos -
Fat Tax on Plus-Size Clothing (but almost exclusively on women's clothing, not men's)
Sosewsue61 replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This was a UK store. But I will say a couple places where women get gouged is undergarments - bras and panties and such are outrageously priced when compared to the amount of fabric contained, and shoes too. -
Individual results vary, many times based on compliance. I have seen bypass patients regain too, or never get to goal. There is no magic. Not everyone will regain, not everyone will get acid reflux with vsg, not everyone will have vitamin deficiencies or ulcers with bypass - but those issues do happen. There are a lot of success stories long term with both surgeries. I plan on making mine a success. I have had reflux 3 times in 10 months and very mild, fixed with one pepcid.

Had to pull car over to vomit. Almost lost 50 lbs!
Sosewsue61 replied to BajanSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can just now at 10 months tolerate beef, and then only a really tender small piece, and salad just now stays down. Lettuce brought on the slimes so fast it was crazy. I rely on chicken thighs, pork steak w a little fat free gravy, ground turkey, eggs, cheese, deli turkey, yogurt, cottage cheese, fish. I upchucked if I ate too fast, or the meat was dry, or if I took one bite over. You learn to stop short of being full lol.... -
Help! Stalled and discouraged!
Sosewsue61 replied to lex2287's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try intermittent fasting, eating only in an 8 hour window, and go down to 50 carbs or less per day for a week, then vary calories - lower for 3 days, then add 200 calories for one day, then back down. Sometimes we tend to eat the same things over and over and our bodies think it's maintenance. Also up liquids to 100 ounces. -
Should I cut my hair? (Hair Loss)
Sosewsue61 replied to AstroCat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@AstroCat you are a cutie patootie with that haircut!!! I keep thinking I need to cut mine more since all those baby hairs look like duck fuzz now. -
I'm a little more alarmed by the 'try ALL the food choices' than the beer. Please don't do this again so early on, 'normal activities' really doesn't include random food choices. Those food stages are usually for a reason, you have no idea how your new surgery will react to introducing new foods and it was a big risk trying all that before you are healed, especially those peanuts. Please get your head wrapped around the concept that you are NOT healed yet. Glad the lesson learned made you reconsider, we all have those learning curves. Slow down, enjoy your date night for the attention, the dressing up, the conversations - not the food. I actually think a new date night tradition should be in your plans - maybe bowling, or see a play together, or play darts (skip the beer lol), less food as a destination. GOOD LUCK.

really not losing weight rapidly
Sosewsue61 replied to nevertoolate's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So what are your macros? And your body isn't going to just drop weight quickly and all the time, that isn't how it works. Slider Quest bars? Extra protein shakes? What does that even mean? Quest bars at 3 weeks are not really needed, I only used those if I had no time or had to run errands and had an erratic schedule going on. This journey takes some planning. Start some pureed foods, some real food protein - you will be better satisfied. Greek yogurt, ricotta cheese, refried beans, etc. At 3 weeks I doubt you are consuming very many calories, but you don't say how many grams of protein you consume or if you are drinking at least 64oz of liquids. And there is a common stall around 3 weeks anyway. You are not healed, there is still inflammation and this takes time. You need to relax this isn't a race, all changes are long term here, enjoy the scenery along route. Stay off the scale for now and concentrate on the habits until you get a routine and figure out what works for you. It is very individual for all of us. The walking is the best thing right now. -
Wow look at those muscles!! ( you need to edit your profile stats) Are you lifting weights?
