    I guess I’m regretting a little...

Chill peeps.....this is a long term, different journey than ever before. It is not magic, not TV, not Slim Fast..... There are just so many factors here, age, genetics, physical abilities, starting weight, what you lost prior to surgery, pre-op diet, hydration, protein intake, yada yada yada..... Your hormones are out of whack, you are recovering, your body is in shock, your mind is hyper-vigilant. STOP. Go find something to do, take a damn nap! Get a hobby, weight loss is not your hobby.....or your life... There WILL be stalls, and it will suck. But 'we' promise, it all works out as long as you follow the golden rules: Hydration, hydration, hydration. No drinking with solid food meals. Get required protein in first, then veg Walk daily 15 min minimum. Vitamins. This is all you do for the first 6 months.

GERD but want to have sleeve

You can write down how bad your GERD is now, how controllable it is now with medication, how long have you had it, you could have a hiatal hernia making it worse, you could have h. pylori bacteria in your gut, is it situational (eating late and then sleeping, only with italian sausage, only with spicy food, could it be the gall bladder?, eating until really stuffed, drinking a lot of citrus/soda pop, coffee, etc). Your surgeon can do the EGD, and see what everything looks like and estimate the outcome to be favorable or not for the sleeve. Maybe your GERD is controllable, or maybe it isn't. Don't let anyone badger you into the decision, make an informed decision based on what you know about your body. There are many factors dependant on your physical health now, your age, your genetics, whether you take medication, etc etc. Asking forum members will get you 'everyone's personal opinion and personal experience', it really will not validate your decision. @notmyname - no you misunderstood my meaning (don't apologize). Getting information on 'who had what happen' in the sampling of forum members, and has little bearing on what your outcome might or might not be, go for hard evidence based on what you know about yourself and how bad your GERD is, and real statistics on the two surgeries, that's all.
  4. @FluffyChix (did you forget toosday?) Anywho I am in, but after the lovely thursday colonoscopy💩💩💩😣. I will measure myself tomorrow....and post something.

    Long term struggles

Find a nutritionist, a wls support group, a therapist, just start somewhere. Download an app for tracking food (Baritastic, myfitnesspal, LoseIt - all free), buy a new fancy water thermos, new sneakers, a journal for your feelings, clean the junk food from your cupboards, buy a week's worth of lunch food and divide it into containers...etc Stop shaming yourself, forgive yourself, and move on, success can be yours.

    low energy

Nap. Take naps, it helps with healing. And yes you WILL be exhausted, hit a wall. Dehydration makes you exhausted, not enough nutrition makes you exhausted. Try bone broth for protein and fluid, sf popsicles for fluids, Isopure ready-made blue raspberry or punch diluted w crystal light for protein and fluid. How many ounces of liquids are you getting in a day?

Knee surgery 6 months after VSG

    What brand knee is it?

    Scared

It could be acid reflux causing nausea, call and ask about trying a ppi or something. Is it right after eating only, or constant? How long in between meals and snacks? What foods are you eating, what are you drinking?

    SHOULD I DO IT?

Complications are pretty rare, recovery is easier than gall bladder or total knee replacement. I am 63 and had my sleeve done 10 months ago. Pick a good surgeon, do your research. Ask what complication rate he/she has. Ask what size he makes the sleeve. Ask if he does the leak test after surgery, mine did - he has never had a leak, has never had to repair a sleeve he performed, has never lost a patient. Also your general health right now and genetics will impact your recovery to an extent. An EGD as part of preop will give insight into whether you have acid reflux, that is one relatively common problem some people have after the sleeve if they are prone to it prior to surgery. Some physicians put patients on a PPI right away to keep that in check - ask about that. I don't know what other long term effects you are afraid of, be specific.

    I can’t date overweight people

I get your concerns about being with someone that will support your new lifestyle. As far as some of your other requirements, no one is perfect, we are all a work in progress - so keep that in mind. It will be difficult to find a woman without children, or that doesn't want children - that alone will be your biggest hurdle. I suggest joining activities that you really like, bowling, join the community theater and help build stage sets, join the county fair committees, ride horses, dance lessons, biking, hiking, stained glass class, community college travel groups, whatever floats your boat. Go where there are groups/clubs doing things and just have fun - usually this is the best way to meet new people. Even go one or two towns over from where you reside.

Knee surgery 6 months after VSG

I guess my questions to the bariatric surgeon would be - is it advisable to have this type of surgery 6 months out from vsg? How do I cope with recovering and meet all my nutritional needs for it? Can you test me for any deficiencies prior to knee surgery to make sure I can sustain another surgery so soon? You know how TKR recovery goes, physical therapy, etc. I found the bone healing pain to be excruciating from TKR.

    Addiction after weight loss surgery!

So glad you entered treatment and it sounds more complicated than substance abuse - that is the symptom. Stay in long term therapy. May God bless you

    1st consultation need help please

Email your insurance and ask specific questions - what are the bmi requirements with no comorbidities, what are the bmi requirements with comorbidities, what constitutes a comorbidity (sleep apnea, type II diabetes, heart condition, high cholesterol, others?) Do I have to show failed attempts at weight loss, do I have to go through a program (6 months nutritionist visits, food diary, exercise diary), am I required to maintain or lose weight while on the program, if i lose below a certain bmi am I disqualified, if i gain am I disqualified? I say do this via the insurance online portal emails so you have a written answer and not an oral phone conversation. Some people wear layers of clothes, heavy shoes and ankle weights under jeans, rolls of quarters in pockets to qualify. Then take out a roll of quarters at the 2nd weigh-in, etc. But do this at a different surgeon, not the one giving you bad vibes. Also talk to the insurance coordinator at the surgeon's office - they usually know more about the ins and outs of approval processes for most insurance. Good luck.
  17. So glad your outcome of this complication has been a good resolution. I hope you heal and wish you good luck on this journey.

Who to tell, what to tell them

If you don't live under the same roof don't tell her, at least not until way down the road if ever. If anyone makes comments about what you are consuming just say you are seeing a nutritionist and trying something new (once again, but really one and done!). People may suspect you had surgery but it is no one's business. Just own it for yourself. Good luck.

    Food Before and After Photos

@kristy2671 be careful of olives, first time i tried them - 6 weeks out, they came back up! I can eat the ripe ones now at 10 months, but green ones, not so much, pickles were fine - no issues

    Am I just impatient

Nausea could be acid reflux, are you on a ppi? As far as the taste buds, that will adjust after awhile - take advantage of that widow where food doesn't matter/isn't interesting to find a new hobby - food will always be available. ..

    Feeling Defeated

Bariatrician? Bariatric Nutritionist? You didn't start out super big so weight loss can be slower for lower bmi people. Up your plain water intake, and protein to 80gr, carbs under 50. Vary your types of protein, don't eat the same menus weekly. Don't worry about the calories so much. Slow losses are fine and there will be stalls. Usually inches are lost during stalls. Everyone loses at different rates and to put an exact number on expected weight loss is silly advice and not helpful.

    Anyone eat omelets?

Yes one egg omelet w tiny bit of mexican cheese. YUM.

    solid foods in phase 3

Just go slowly with a small taste and wait to see reaction, chew really well, no drinking with food and stop after a few bites and wait again. Some drier textures may cause reaction, some foods could cause the dreaded 'slimes' and might come back up. Sometimes you can take that 'one bite' too many and it will feel stuck or slime or you will feel slightly ill. This is why you go slowly.

    Failing

Isopure ready-made blue raspberry or punch diluted w crystal light lemonade. Bone broth with veggies simmered in it and some cannelini beans or lentils added.
  25. We don't have any idea what his phase II includes. Mine was semi-liquid, high protein yogurts, refried beans with a little melted cheese, cottage cheese, strained soups, sf puddings.
