Does anyone have more heavy menstrual cycles since surgery?
Sosewsue61 replied to onmyway11's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Menopause can also do this to some people w/o a sleeve, my mother had this and got a d&c to clear the lining of her uterus and it stopped being so frequent. -
2 months post surgery

300 calories doesn't sound nutritionally safe, you will lose a lot of muscle. Is this Dr recommended? -
Here I go Starting all over again

Will pray for you and your surgeon. All the best for you. -
I generally believe what @Introversion said even though I am preop and can't give experience for post-op. Is the nurse part of the bariatric team? I know there is still the holdover on the fat thing in the medical community, but fat provides satiety and keeps carb cravings at bay. Are you still losing?

Needing to vent!
Sosewsue61 replied to longlashes23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you try scheduling some therapy? To talk about these issues of not being able to give up types of food. It is hard to consider. I do find cravings to go away the longer I stay off most carbs, I am pre-op and not perfect but striving for improvement. I had to explore why I wanted to eat, the stress eating was from anxiety and I was trying to self soothe and retreat, didn't want to think about whatever was causing the anxiety. Severe PTSD from abuse. I have struggled with it and have only recently crossed over the 'oh h*!! NO bridge you don't get to control me anymore. Good luck. -

Awesome!!! -
I don't know your relationships and how much you want to share with friends about your wls, but your husband needs to be your champion, your defender to be the best you there is and you need to be kind to yourself in the process as well. Have a frank talk with him (when not drinking or distracted). Some people are not going to undrrstand because they fear the changes - you will 'judge them for drinking', 'harbor resentments', they will think you are not fun unless you drink, these are all possible roadblocks to your success unless you get a backbone and say 'this is my health, this is serious stuff' - this is what I NEED. Good luck.

So you can fake drinking...I was married to an alcoholic and I faked it when we were with friends. I was my own bartender, the life of the party chatting up people, getting their drinks. I made fake drinks with a slice of lemon and whatnot in my glass but it had pretty much zero alcohol, and if someone else made one, I would carry it around awhile and then dump it out in the bathroom. I had to drive home. Or say you have an ulcer and can't drink alcohol. Honestly do you want to not drink? Or are you lamenting aimlessly and want permission?

Question about breast surgery
Sosewsue61 replied to Dashofpixiedust8's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I guess my only questions are - do you plan on having any/more children. If yes then I would wait, as you will have body changes from that and/or may want to breastfeed. Otherwise I say go for it, just pick a good surgeon -
Dealing with food you can't eat
Sosewsue61 replied to walker6153's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tell them you had ulcer surgery and can't eat anything if you don't want to say it was wls. And then have a really frank discussion with your wife. -

Picky eater that doesn't want to be!
Sosewsue61 replied to EmmyJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Put them in soups, puree some into the broth too. Butternut squash soup is good. Broiled/roasted tomatoes are good too. Parmesean or romano grated on any toasted veg adds a nice nuttiness flavor. -

Discouraging news... can someone help me with understanding this?
Sosewsue61 replied to genesissxs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You take your personal record to your pcp and have them blend it with clinical visits you made for the past year. Like your weight every time you went to the pcp. I would go online to your insurance's portal that you log into and see if there is an email system within the portal and ask very specific questions. Like this: Does the 12 month supervised weight loss program require a 12 office visits with the pcp, with the dietician, etc. Does the program require a medication trial? Does the program require specific documentation for exercise, what type and how much qualifies? Get very specific. It sounds as if insurance companies are trying to get out of covering wls by discouraging people. Good luck -
Yeah, sure you can find claims and research to substantiate almost anything. I have read some of it, I have read counter research. But let's examine Fuhrman's statements in one instance: Which foods raise IGF-1? Since the primary dietary factor that determines IGF-1 levels is animal protein, the excessive meat, fowl, seafood, and dairy intake common in our society elevates circulating IGF-1. It is the amino acid distribution of animal protein that sparks IGF-1 production.16 For this reason, isolated soy protein, found in protein powders and meat substitutes, may also be problematic because the protein is unnaturally concentrated and its amino acid profile is very similar to that of animal protein. Refined carbohydrates, like white flour, white rice, and sugars can also raise IGF-1 levels, because they cause rapid increases in insulin levels, leading to increases in IGF-1 signaling. In fact, IGF-1 signaling is thought to be a major factor in the connectionbetween diabetes and cancer.14,15 It seems to be saying refined carbs do the same thing and so it's hardly causation entirely. To each his own....not on here to debate everything.

Look at you all sassy in that hot pink shirt!!!!!😎

To answer your question, the plan my doc uses is basically high protein, then veg, good fats, stay away from most carbs (grains breads rice etc). Going mostly veg protein means considerably more carbs than recommended for people that have the metabolic issues people getting surgery have. Also ONLY animal proteins have all 23 amino acids that our bodies require. Plus veg protein requires combining two diff types together to try to get a complete protein so your body can use it properly. Does he push supplements? Your doc is your doc and your decision, and if the weight loss works and if you can sustain it I wish you all the best. Keep us posted.

What is that one thing you look forward to so much, post op?
Sosewsue61 replied to Kris_Aloha's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@violetisle I love vintage as well. I have a ton of sewing patterns from the 40's, unfortunately I have no waist. But hopefully by next year that can be remedied. AND my square dance outfits will look way better. I want to be able to hike in the mtns easily and fit in booths as well. -
I'm unsupportive, but I want to be....
Sosewsue61 replied to Nichole Edwards's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Nicole Edwards you need therapy for yourself so you can get past your issues of trauma - whatever it was. I don't see this as merely a fear of the surgery but something deeper within you that needs to be resolved. Why do you need to have him stay fat? How is his fat serving you? And people change and become their true selves. What are you hiding and clinging to? Let him fix himself and stay out of his way. You don't get to decide this. Fix yourself and get stronger.
