    Help

Hi Laura. Since you are young I would definitely do the sleeve. You may want another child, and nutrition will be easier with the sleeve. The weight comes off just slightly slower with the sleeve, but over all results are very similar with either surgery as far as weight loss. I have heard at my wl group 3 bypass patients have iron deficiency and 1 got ulcers in the stomach portion that is bypassed as it still makes acid even though it isn't getting food. Any surgery is just a form of restriction which makes it easier to not over consume - as long as your head is in the game. Unless you examine your relationship with food, you will be less successful, the motivation and enthusiasm is high in the first year to 18 months and that will get you far into the journey. Every person has to find their own way and it can be tough at times. Do some reading on this forum - use the search function to find topics and view some youtube videos by Dr. Weiner, Dr. Duc Vuong, etc. Books by Geneen Roth and Jan Chosen Bays address food issues. Research and read as much as you can before surgery. Good luck.

    Help

If you do not have a medical need for bypass, do the sleeve. Less malnutrition/absorption issues with the sleeve. But you gave us no info - age, weight, are you done having children, how many years have you been obese, do you have lots of emotional eating habits, are your triggers sugar, etc
  3. Nerves need to knit back together, and they severed the omentum from the fundus...this was major surgery and there will be some pain and healing. Hang in there, it improves quickly after week 4....

Who the heck is this woman?

    Good for you!
  5. Get to your clinic and get an IV, dehydration is nothing to fool around with. Once you are in that state it is difficult to rehydrate yourself. Try warm weak tea, it relaxes the esophagus and muscles. Sip all day, seriously all day, glue that cup or bottle to your hand. Are you eating? Try soup.
  6. Urgent care for the 'not urinating' today! The pain could be acid reflux or gall bladder, lab work.
  7. First - forgive yourself. That wss yesterday, focus on just one day at a time. Second - since you live alone just 'who' is putting that stuff in your shopping cart? Stop buying it. Throw it out, the money is gone, or give it to a food pantry. You are the only one that can be kind to your body Have you tried meditation for the stress? How about books by Geneen Roth? She has a great workbook for compulsive eating. Some therapists do not get to the deeper issues. https://whywesuffer.com And go look at youtube videos for inspiration and information. Dr Weiner and Dr. Duc Vuong. It's not over, keep going. We are always a work in progress because forward is where we are going. We are all food addicts.

    No family support

Your mother may profess to be Christian, but she is using it for harm rather than good. There are toxic relationships even in the face of Christianity. Also beware, even after you have success toxic people will up the ante and try to sabotage you. All relationships will change because you must change. These aren't little changes either, be strong. https://www.sleeveacademy.com/SleeveVsBypass https://youtu.be/Os_vwpdMzh0
  9. The surgery is major surgery, the organs were very manipulated. Walk as much as you can and stay hydrated, warm weak tea was better than anything cold. Keep doing the IV Tylenol and anything else non-morphine. But walk and walk. Try to notice exactly where the pain is, and if it decreases or increases before or after movement, keep a little chart. The only pain I had was just to the left of the stomach up high. The stomach is quite high up, and it was probably due to the hernia repair. Did you have a hernia repaired? Hang in there.

Chickened Out On Surgery Day. Help.

Anxiety sucks. Therapy is the best route. But I have to say that there are always triggers, not trying to argue here or make anyone feel bad. I have anxiety and I have a daughter that has anxiety as well.... More often than not we start the conversation ourselves in our heads. Therapy will identify all of that. It is usually a much deeper issue. Hang in there, good luck.
  12. Only you can decide based on your history of weight loss, our opinions are just opinions. Do you have sleep apnea - have they done a sleep study? Any other medical issues? And it's not true that if you have GERD that you can't have the sleeve. https://www.sleeveacademy.com/heartburnLTS
  13. I still do not have a lot of stomach hunger, small pangs and if I am out shopping I can go a very long time without eating. Head hunger is always around - see food - oooo I want that, never mind I am not hungry. It improves if you are not in crisis or anxiety mode. It also helps to seriously enjoy the food you do eat, buy the shrimp, the asparagus, the tiny brussels sprouts sprinkle with sea salt and sliced almonds. Don't eat distracted, no phone, no TV, not in the car - unless unavoidable circumstances arise, use small salad plates, chew, chew, chew. Good luck.

    Loose skin causing UTI?

Have them test you for ecoli. I have a friend with recurring UTI and bladder and they discovered ecoli was causing it. They haven't figured out how she got ecoli.

Foodies - honestly how bad is it?

We contemplate the need for surgery because we have a relationship with food that is not normal. You must examine that relationship very deeply, sure the surgery will physically restrict the food amounts, but after healing you can pretty much eat anything. So...the takeaway is that overeating is still possible if you graze and eat high calorie non-nutritious food. Your head and emotions will lie, cheat, and steal if don't examine that relationship with food. And don't be lulled by the honeymoon period because during the early months you can eat all kinds of food and still lose because of restriction. Don't test that. Follow the stages of eating progression. Look up Dr. Weiner, Dr. Duc Vuong on youtube, read their books. Good advice.

    Weird Aches and Pains

The big stomach pulls on your back, and when you lose weight that all shifts around, you sit and walk differently. Some people remark that they are suddenly taller because they are not stooped over and leaning on everything. Hard chairs kill my butt now, way less padding. Get ready, there are many more exciting changes.

    Buyers remorse

Your life will change drastically for the better, but it is not all roses and rainbows. Get some therapy or read some books, or find Dr. Duc Vuong's youtube videos, or Dr. Weiner. Even after you get the hang of this journey, all kinds of long buried emotions will come out of left field and it's no picnic. Relationships will change because you have changed. Read, get therapy. It will be the ride of your life, and amazing but it requires lots of head work, heart work, and change. Good luck.

    weight gain after gastric sleeve

We all have a relationship with food that is not normal. The best book I have read is "Mindful Eating" by Jan Chozen Bays, MD Also check out the website https://www.whywesuffer.com

    Exogenous Ketones

Forums are just anecdotal evidence at best for all questions, we can only give our own experiences not based in hard science. We are all individuals and what works for one person won't necessarily work for another. There is no magic formula, stop looking for one, keep track of what works for your body long term, and that changes over time. In the beginning virtually any type of major deficit will cause weight loss regardless of type of consumption. Again you have to figure out what works for your body. Good luck.

    Smoking and ulcers

Also the bypassed stomach portion can still produce acid in response to the inflammation with no way for medicine to reach it. Not promoting nicotine addiction but switch to Juul, taper off and quit, sometimes it takes 3 attempts. Your body will heal a lot slower while still smoking, reduces oxygen to tissues.

    Getting enough calories

Stop going to the gym, especially if you are doing intense workouts, with lowered calorie consumption you will stall more with intense workouts - just some walking in all you need. Stalls are part of the process all during this journey, many times your body will need to take a break, usually inches come off during a true stall. Hair loss is also part of this. Keep protein levels up, add some fat - avocado, coconut oil, etc. My hair really suffered, looked like crap for a long time but I have lots of new baby hairs, I did but uber expensive shampoo - Zenegen that has made a huge difference, it lasts a long time used as directed though. Hang in there. Push more liquids and keep protein to 80gr.

    Gastric sleeve post op

You need to keep trying with the fluids, try warm liquids or room temp. Broth or tea rather than plain water. Dehydration is a huge problem that can escalate before you know you are in serious trouble. Bowel function is impaired from anesthetic and lack of nutrition, in early recovery you will naturally go less due to not consuming much. Walk more, it helps bowel function return. Yes, milk of magnesia and stool softeners are needed until you can add vegetables on a regular basis, plus I found whey protein very constipating. Push the fluids by sipping tiny amounts all day, this is your primary goal right now.
