LadySin reacted to The Icy One in Is your weight loss surgeon morbidly obese?
My surgeon is trim and fit. His staff vary from very fit to obese and working on it. They are running a weight loss challenge, at present. Some of the overweight staff are banded, some not. None of the staff show attitude toward the patients. If any of them have attitude about fat people, they keep it behind closed doors. Everyone at my office are very supportive, caring and sweet.

I can' t answer your question I'm sorry. I almost went for a endoscopic gastric sleeve. I was going to enter a clinical trial to help test its efficacy. I ended up turning the University down when my Insurance approved my appeal for the sleeve. Its truly seems like an Interesting procedure.
I will says if your BMI is 35 or greater an you have a co-morbidity, Insurance may pay for it.

It just occurred to me, I wonder if this completely irrelevant letter is him covering his arse for never getting back to me and refusing to give O/S referral because I've put in the reimbursement paperwork.

    Well...
you could *start* blood pressure meds and never take them this never controlling your hypertension. Then *begin* the supervised diet but make no effort to lose, only maintain to so you don't fall out of the BMI range...
Or walk the straight and narrow.
    Whatever you choose...

I had been sober for 9 years before weight loss surgery. Everyone told me I had to be careful after surgery and really protect my sobriety. About 3 months after surgery I ended up relapsing and almost died. Like literally almost died, had to be taken to the ER in an ambulance. I have since regained sobriety but it has been very hard. You have two choices, continue to drink like an alcoholic and see where that takes you or get into a program of recovery. I got sober in AA and I know the program works if you are committed to it. Ultimately it’s your choice and no one else’s. If you choose to keep drinking then more power to you. No one can make you get sober.

This is what the pre-op psy exam is supposed to help flush out. Get to some addiction counseling / AA. Several bottles of wine a day, sadly, makes you an alcoholic. You seem to be accepting the addiction to wine, now you need to step up and get some help. Alcohol is in no way a healthier option than food, I don't see how you can justify wine as being healthier. 2 bottles of wine puts you into the 1300 - 1500 calorie a day mark, and with no Protein or other required nutritional value... it's pure empty calories. So it's really no better than soda from a "health" standpoint.

I hope you do get some help... this is bad on a few levels for a non-altered person, worse so for a WLS patient.

Hey there... I've read about people who've had the wls that start a new addiction... instead of food they turn to something else...
I think I'm one of them... and there's no one I can talk to about it where I live...
I drink wine... everyday.... not just a glass, not just a bottle, sometimes it's 2 bottles or even 3... once I pour a glass or even take a sip I can't stop till I either pass out or run out.
It gets kind of bad sometimes, I wake up not remembering what I did before sleeping... but the thing I recently realized about why I drink... it's "healthier"to me then putting food into my mouth... I'm so terrified to gain weight back!
It's hard to explain really...I don't know... maybe it's me just being stupid...idk...I make 2 years November 1st...
I guess I just wanted to know if I was alone or not???

Guys I'm feeling so fucked up. So much stuff is going on that's not bariatric elated. I really need some help. I'm at work right now so I can't take my proper medication. The next best thing for me is music because I refuse to acknowledge the pile of treats and crap given to me by various people at our holiday party today. I'm tired of my playlist. Send me some positive vibes. If you can embed a video from youtube great! If not just type the song name and artist. I'll listen to any genre anyone submits as long as it's positive!
Help me Obi-wan Kenobi. You're my only hope!

After a while, once you heal and the internal swelling goes down, you will be able to drink normally. At first, the tiniest sips hurt like H#@L!! after many months (I had a lot of swelling) I was able to drink normally, I now drink over a gallon a day!

After several weeks you'll do just fine hydrating after a workout. Trust me, there are thousands of us post-vsg and we are working out and perfectly capable of hydrating ourselves, we aren't collapsing in little withered heaps all over the place

    Your scars look great!

    You got this!

I am, too, starting to feel really nervous and almost scared of the surgery. I was laying in bed this morning and the realization of the surgery was so disassociating that I almost wanted to cry.
"Is this me? Am I really doing this?" I was asking myself. The future me and the present me were having difficulties connecting with one another. "Why am I doing this to myself?" I asked as well. I was almost a little upset that I had let myself get to this point. . . that I hadn't been strong enough to get down to a normal weight by myself. But that's my mental illness talking. Anyway, if I could get some kind words, I would greatly appreciate it.

Well, there are about 10g of fat and 12g of Protein in two eggs (0 carbs). If you skip the yolk and only have the whites, there almost no fat and it's pretty much pure protein. I can't see how egg whites wouldn't be on the pre-op diet (as long as you don't cook them in anything that adds fat or calories)--hence hard boiled egg whites. I think some of these guidelines they come up with a general rules intended for "uneducated" patients that don't know the difference between having a hard boiled egg white and cheese omelette fried in butter. I like Premier shakes just fine, but how can a processed chemical protein mix be preferable to natural pure, egg whites???

LadySin reacted to Diana_in_Philly in Is it possible to build muscle after the sleeve? I'm about to find out.
Not making the time for myself is what got me to 300 pounds in the first place. Never again. All the gym work I do is to support my fencing - I've set a goal to try to qualify for the women's national team for my age group when I'm in my 60s. My first shot will be in 4 years. I plan to fence at least 2 tournaments a month this season, starting in September - my husband will be running the Navy Half Marathon in DC (he's lost 60 pounds on this journey with me) and the day before his race I'll fence an event in Falls Church, Va. In April, he came to a National tournament with me in Richmond and ran a half marathon that weekend. This has become our recreation. (It helps that we have one kid in college away from home and the other is now high school age and pretty self sufficient and doesn't mind late dinners.)

I've been following the same routines above twice per week (6 workout days and a rest day 7). I'll report back in a month with progress pics and may change up the routine from there.
