I'm glad that I buckled down and finished both knees. I was bone-on-bone with the first one, and almost there with the second. It wasn't easy, but it's behind me now. I don't regret having them done.
I was placed in a live-in rehab facility for five days for my first knee. With the second, only one day in rehab. I was able to pass all of the PT's walking, bending, and stair-climbing tests and I was discharged from rehab. I then had a PT come to my home for about 6 weeks (2 days a week) to do various treatments, but I eventually "graduated" from those, too.
Believe it or not, having the MTP joints in my big toes fused were the toughest surgeries because I wasn't allowed to walk or even stand for 6-8 weeks. I had to wheel around on a hotrod all-terrain scooter-- with a little wire basket in front! And because the surgeries were done separately, I had two different recovery periods of 6-8 weeks.
    Ah, the good ol' days...

@Frustr8 Yep. Just another "attention-seeking, drug-seeking hypochondriac who needs to lose weight."
Hey, I need to create an easier way to say my ER /doctor's office rant phrase... hm.
ASDSH - who needs to lose weight
    Said out loud:
ASDSH = "ASS-DISH who needs to lose weight." That's it, Frustr8, to doctors and other medical personnel: "We're ass-dishes who need to lose weight."

This is one of my main motivators to pursue WLS. I remember once getting the inevitable lecture when seeing a doctor about a UTI. He treated it, but wanted to spend quite a long badgering me about my weight. I came back for a followup a week later to get my blood test results, and in that week I had lost 3 lbs... a very good loss for a week I think. He spent at least 10 minutes in the followup badgering me instead of saying, "I'm glad you took my advice, good job on the loss." I didn't see a doctor after that for many years.

I hear ya! You know, it's kinda like a Maslow's Heirarchy of needs for weightloss:
    10. Lose weight to experience more complete self-actualization and to be able to give back to others more freely/energetically.
    9. Lose weight to create a better interpersonal relationship with your SO (better sex, more fun being together, etc)
    8. Lose weight to feel more confident in yourself and the interactions with other people.
    7. Lose weight to feel good about yourself in your new clothes.
    6. Lose weight to fit into smaller clothes/save money on clothes.
    5. Lose weight to be able to fit into smaller areas that normal people fit into.
    4. Lose weight to fit into society/your job easier.
    3. Lose weight to be able to move better.
    2. Lose weight to keep from adding to the list of obesity related diseases.
    1. Lose weight to put existing obesity related disease into remission.

The heirarchy starts at the bottom #1. And as you move up the ladder towards #10, you're experiencing more and more external rewards rather than the core benefits we're all looking for. You know? I would think a psych would be able to understand this? *scratches head*

Great info! It should be noted however that, if you are seeing Hair loss, it's too late for that hair. Too many people don't understand that most hair support needs to occur BEFORE surgery to help prevent the "losses" down the line.

Overall, amazing information (from an amazing person) in 1 easy to find (hopefully folks search and find this).

    Thanks Greenie!

I was trying to tell my bariatric skrink this same thing. SHE was trying to tell me that shouldn't be a high priority goal.
I was like, look lady. I'm as feminist as it gets, just shy of radical only because I know we need men to procreate.🤣 Is it so wrong that I want to look good on the arm of my wife? Not even for the sake of my OWN feelings?
My MAIN reason for doing this was my diabetes diagnosis. I told my doc at the time, " hell naw! I'm 27, I aint takin' no insulin! Get off my lawn!" She told me. Well I guess yo big ass better lose some weight! OK she didn't say it like that. Tad more professional.
So my reasons for doing this are very logical and reasonable. It just irks me whenever I mention that I also want to FEEL pretty, it upsets her for some reason.

Challenge Starting weight: 133 Current weight: 138. Four pounds up from last check in. Maintaining: Fitness/exercise goal: Changing gyms in the new year. Also changing my workouts up. Total weight loss at the end of challenge: (Post January 1st 2019):
Check in: This is the time of year I start justifying food choices. . Each weekend I'm telling myself I'll get back on track and then blow it and eat unhealthy. It's a old crappy behavior that sets me back and has never served me well. I can eat like I never had surgery. It's a reminder of how easy it is to gain and how slow the weight comes off years out.
I'm maintaining and the gain is not out of control. I will get it back down. I am I feeling sluggish, have a headache, and craving sugar/carbs. I wanted to stay on track to rock a new years dress. I have 15 days to shake off this gain. Ugh what was I thinking.😠

Check in: Tell us how you are doing - (How is your diet and exercise plan going? Any struggles? Stress level? What have you overcome? Any strategies that have helped)--Diet is back on track mainly. Still having hiccups on the weekends with making good food choices. Trying to look and "act" as a skinny woman, making skinny woman weight loss choices--like if I'm gonna have a thrill meal that day, then will economize on calories and carbs but get my Protein in for the remaining day and maybe go stripped down the following day.

I asked why and was told that the most likely reason was time. If a surgeon intends to super glue the skin, he puts in two layers of the dissolving stitches underneath. If he uses staples to close, he puts in just one layer of dissolving stitches. Of course, there are also people who are allergic to super glue

My 2 rules that I have been very successful with.
    1) No meat on the weekdays. Now I'm a Dragon. If the cow is branded, it 'sdone lets eat! That being said. This has been working for me so well! I've been going strong for about a month now. I've also discovered some great recipes and alternatives I never had the courage to try before.
    2) No calories before 12pm and after 8pm. I've been enjoying IF, it's really helped me change how I view food. Unfortunately I've picked up other unsavory habits now that I don't overeat. Hey, I'm working on me.

Staples where? The incisions on your stomach form the surgery? Or like staples in general? Because yeah that **** hurts. Other than that, there's way too many variables we're missing to determine your possible pain. Good luck sis!😊

I'm only seven weeks post op, but I know from years of dieting that as soon as I stop measuring and logging all my food, I gain without even realizing. I know that measuring and weighing and logging has to be something I do pretty much forever to be successful. It is a pain in the ass. But I am worth it. And so are you! None of us want to make this investment of time and energy and money to gain in the end. This is a lifelong journey, and we are on it with you! [emoji6]
