    Powerade Zero

I stocked up on Powerade zero for post op and couldn't stomach it after surgery. Just be prepared for your taste buds to change , especially when it comes to artificially sweetened drinks. All I can tolerate to date (6 months out) is water and iced tea with Splenda. Anything else is sickeningly sweet.

    Taste of food

Yep! I am 6 months out and I remember the first cup of coffee that I had was so awful! And I LOVE coffee. I am pretty much of out of a strong ketosis now and it is much better. Hang in there!

Tempted to consume less protein shakes.

I am glad that you said it before me. I am 6 months post op in a few weeks. I started out going crazy over protein goals and my doctor, at my second visit when I was healed and on solids, told me to stop. His view on the protein is that it is a number that was developed with no real solid reasoning behind it. Before anyone gets crazy about my doctor HE IS EXCELLENT. He is one of the top teaching surgeons in Houston and I can't say enough about him. I started out at 215 and am now 148.5 as of this morning and I feel terrific. My eating plan is clean eating. End of story. I also eat my protein first and then move on to vegetables and last carbs. I can tell you right now I barely eat carbs. I don't eat red meat because I just can't handle it and I don't drink alcohol. If I can "pick it, pluck it or kill it" I can eat it. I will start back in he gym this week. I was ahead of the curve this last 6 months and I have been able to walk but my doc didn't want me in the gym until around 6 months because I needed to be ready and feeling strong enough to get in there. Side note- I have lost very very little hair. I have always been a shedder and it just increased a little starting last month. Just thought i would share because I know the feeling of feeling like a failure immediately post op because you can't keep up with the goals and you are already incredibly emotional and I felt a loss lift when I was given simple instructions that's i could live th for the rest of my life.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Sleeved on 10/19 and down 41 lbs from my high weight. Weight loss has slowed since Christmas but for a few days during the holiday I did not track and just allowed myself to enjoy the holiday which meant more carbs. Back on the wagon as of yesterday and already down a pound today. I have had the stalls where I was doing everything right and stalled - at least I can look at my eating habits and trace this one back to me not following my plan. Even with not following my plan I am still looking at eating a third of what I would normally do at the holiday. I have the unpleasant side effect of getting extremely nauseous to the point that I have to vomit if I eat anything too rich or sweet so that steers me clear of my go to holiday sweets. Even though I have not lost I am still losing inches - which is odd. Went to get a few pieces of clothes over the holidays because it was necessary and was shocked to be down to a 10 pant from a tight 16 and a medium shirt from a tight XL and sometimes a 1X. So that was sweet. I am going to start back to the gym this month - I think I am ready. My doctor doesn't want me in the gym until 5 months out just because I am not getting the daily caloric intake that I need.....but I am ready. Just going to add some weights/toning and treadmill and a once a week yoga class. Hopefully it will increase my appetite so I can get in more than 500 calories a day. Overall I am feeling great and have moved out of the depression/blues/what the hell have I done stage and am thankful that I had the surgery.

    Medication and Slow Weight Loss

Wellbutrin. It works awesome for me and I actually lost weight on it when I first started it. I have always had to be on something and the SSRIs always made me gain.......

    Feel like a liar

I love it! That is my plan when people start asking me if I'm sick I am just going to shrug and say "they can't figure out what's wrong" and cry and walk off.

    So many emotions

I was sleeved 10/19 and I do get down about not being able to eat like I used to. But, I am also 35 pounds down so I just tell myself "look how far you have come" and it helps.... a little. It's funny because just last night we went to a restaurant after a family function and I did not order anything! I just ate off my my husband and kids' plates. I was shopping yesterday at the mall and for lunch I just made one round at the food court and picked up a sample from each place and was full. So there are perks. It is a little much to get used to though- it is a hard feeling to explain when you leave a restaurant and you are physically satisfied but mentally you feel like you missed out. It is getting better though! Hang in there:)

    Favorite workouts!

I have not gotten back to the gym. I had my 6 week follow up and have the ok to start exercising beyond walking. My problem is I am still incredibly fatigued. Doctor said that exercise during the first five months will not make a difference in weight loss. After 5 months it will help greatly. I am going to start a yoga class with my daughter one night a week to ease back in. In the past I worked with a trainer and he suggested the book "Sculpting her Body Perfect" it is my holy grail to weight training. I would highly recommend it.
  10. I have always had problems taking vitamins even before my surgery. I take two flinstones every morning and can tolerate them well.

    5 Confessions (Join In)

I confess that I ate half of a chocolate chip cookie today- and it was divine. I confess that I weigh myself everyday and get aggravated that I have weighed 180.9 and then 180.4 and then 180.2 and I just want to see 179!!! i confess that my teenage daughter's laughed their asses off because my underwear hangs off my ass 😂😂 I confess that I am a little scared of food so I am not getting enough calories each day:( i confess that I secretly smile when I no longer hear my pants sound like they are going to start a fire when I walk from my thighs rubbing together:)

    No change in hunger

I am 5 weeks out and had the same issue. The entire time I am thinking that I got DUPED! I just kept drinking my water and my shakes and sugar free popcicles really helped me. I had a lot of head hunger and it takes a while to work through that one. I found that (this may sound weird) when I got like that I oils eat a listerine breath strip, gargle with listerine or just brush my teeth and then drink some water and it helped. Greek yogurt also helps a lot because of the protein. I promise it gets better. Getting through the pre-op is hard, having the surgery is harder but getting through the 6-8 weeks post surgery is the hardest of the hard. I am 5 weeks out and down 30 pounds and just that little amount has made a huge difference in my over all well being. Eyes on the prize don't let your head get into your stomach!!!!!

    Thanksgiving

I am still at the soft food stage. I had turkey (dark meat because it is more tender) mashed potatoes and some dressing. I ate very little and had no issues. I did feel very tired afterwards. It is the most carbs I have had in 5 weeks so I am sure my body was like "what the hell". All in total I ate about 3/4 of a cup of food. I did have a small piece (3 bites) of sugar free chocolate pie. I mainly just ate the pudding without the crust. The day was fine for me- at 5 weeks out my mindset has DRASTICALLY changed about food. It's unbelievable. Whenever I got it in my head that I wanted more I just reminded myself that I was 30 pounds down today and it just wasn't worth it. At this stage in the game I know when I am hungry and when my head is hungry 😋

Do I really need a NUT?

I am 5 weeks out and have spoken to mine once. I just needed an idea of a carb limit for the day. I find that there is a lot of different plans and it all depends on the NUT opinion...... I think if you are having issues it is a good idea but then again... this isn't rocket science. Have you tried the Premier Protein water? I cannot do the protein shakes and had issues getting my protein in. The drinks are really good. No artifical sweeteners! I am getting my protein in now since one of the drinks has 20 grams.

    Fruit?

I have issues with artificial sweeteners as well. I started getting my Greek yogurt at Trader Joe's- excellent.

    Needing surgeon In Houston

I he mine in Houston on Oct 19th by Dr. Todd Wilson and I can't say enough great things about him!
  19. I was a month out of surgery yesterday. I am eating protein oatmeal in the AM - can usually eat about 1/2. I do refried beans with a little cheese and sour cream for lunch (about 1 1/2 ounces) can do a while Greek yogurt for a snack and then dinner is usually soup of some sort. I drink the premier protein water instead of the shakes. (Can't stomach them at all). I can eat scrambled eggs, boiled egg and that little triangle cheese. Also have he success with tuna (with a little mayo and relish). I can't stand canned chicken and wasn't able to tolerate a little crab salad but managed to eat a soft crab cake (or about 1/4 of it). I was talking to my NUT and she said she isn't a fan of the soft cheese at only a month out. Not sure I understand that one.
  20. Awesome! I was out the next day. All of the nurses were wonderful. I am a little over a month out and feeling great. When is your surgery?
  21. My highest weight was 215 and I am 5'5. By the time that I went to the surgeon I had dropped to 211 mostly due to a new med that's I had been put on for depression. I was not required to do a liquid diet and on the day of surgery I was 208. I am in week 3 post op and am 191. I have high blood pressure, my lipid panel is alarming and major back issues (sciatica, scoliosis and degenerative arthritis). The lower back pain that resulted was excruciating (had to roll out of bed every morning). Since the 21 pound weight loss from my high weight I am AMAZED at how much better I feel. Truly blessed to have a realistic way of losing this weight. I may be losing slow but I am keeping my eyes on the non scale victories and the gains in my health.
  22. I work a desk job as well. I took one week off and then worked from home for the second week. I was sleeved on 10/19 and returned to work yesterday. One thing that I can tell you that I didn't really realize is how much attention you have to pay in the immediate weeks after surgery on your eating and drinking schedule. There is also the memory recall issues and just plain exhaustion. I would give it at least 2 weeks. I had a semi-panic attack when I returned to work yesterday because I was trying to stay on track with my eating schedule which is harder than you think at work when time is not your own AND you don;t realize how much your memory is zapped because of the vitamin deficiency, lack of calories and your body trying to figure out what the hell you did to it. My humble advise would be take 3 weeks if you can - I think I came back too early. Good luck!

    Post Op Vitamins

I take a chewable kids multi-vitamin, chewable Biotin, chewable B12 and a "petite" calcium citrate 2ce a day. I take a Vitamin D pill once a month (RX). All of this was purchased at CVS and very affordable. I am thinking of adding Thiamin and B1 to the mix because I read that it helps with the sudden recall/memory issues that I am experiencing.

    Finally Started to Excercise

I have always done my treadmill first to get the heart rate up and then went to weights. I am in week 3 since my surgery and would like to get back in the gym but I am only able to get about 300 calories in (on a good day) so I figured it's probably not the best idea.
