  1. Has anyone been told that they DO NOT have to do the pre-op diet? No one at my doctor's office has mentioned it to me and I just had a CT scan for other issues and it states that I have a normal size liver. Just wondering???

    Anyone in Texas?

I am in Houston too and should have the surgery in late August or early September. I am on month 4 of the 6 month nutrition requirements. What doctor? Mine is Todd Wilson at UT.
  3. You are almost on my exact timeline! My first appointment was 3/28/17 and my last appointment is 8/29/2017 so I too am hoping for surgery in September. Good luck and I am looking out for a post from you that says you have a date!

HELP! BCBS 6 Month Nutrition Requirement

I have BC Anthem and am also doing the 6 months. At first I was told it wasn't required and then I got a call from my coordinator and said it was. I was really bummed but then just accepted it, got my head right and am going to my 4th appointment in a few days. I scheduled all of my appointments in he beginning and made them a priority! It has really helped me make gradual changes and I think it is going to make me successful in he long run. I make one change a month that is going to me mandatory after surgery. You can do it! The insurance company does this to make sure you are committed and will be successful- prove that you can!

Does it hurt to vomit after surgery?

Every time I have had surgery I let the anesthesiologist know that I get horrible nausea from anesthesia and they have always taken care of me. They give me 4 different meds in my IV to cover every thing that they can that could possibly cause my nausea. I can't take pain meds because I get so sick. Just make sure you tell them you are easily sick by meds and they will take care of you.

    Pre-Op Diet

Mine is 35 so maybe that will be the case for me as well.

    Pre-Op Diet

I am just going to ask when the time comes. All he can say is you have to be on it!

    Timeline confusion

That's not good. My coordinator always picks up or returns my calls pretty quick. It is their job to keep everything together for you.

    Timeline confusion

I have a patient coordinator at my surgeon' office. At my first appointment she laid out all of my requirements (I have Anthem as well). It was up to me to make all of my appointments. If I had additional info (similar to your December doctor's visit) I send it straight to my coordinator. Your OB can also put that info in your PCP letter that's anthem requires.
  10. I hope that isn't the case! I had to show a three year history for BC Anthem and I have been steady 35 for two years. The first year I was lower.
  11. I am in the same boat. I feel ridiculous not trying to lose weight. I ended up gaining for my first weigh in! My doctor said don't lose more than a pound and do not gain at all. The good news is they really just look at your first and last weigh in. I am over half way there and I really did feel the same way that you did in the beginning. I am using this time to start to ready myself for the changes - changing one thing a month. I have given up carb sides and diet cokes so far, next up is caffeine (have mercy!). Starfishwish is right either do it now or do it later....just a longer amount of time to be miserable.
  12. So you only paid for the WLS part of the surgery because of the HH repair? How did that work?

    Below 40 BMI buddies

MIne told me that the insurance just doesn't want to see a gain. He also told me not to dip below 35 to be on the safe side but that he would be submitting my initial weight for the approval process.

    Below 40 BMI buddies

What insurance? I am nervous about getting my approval after all of the legwork and time put in:( It is a shame that I am hoping for a hiatal hernia so I can have that option in case I get a denial!

    Below 40 BMI buddies

I am a 35 w/high cholesterol and BP and major back pain that can only be relieved with weight loss. I am halfway through my 6 month nutrition program. I have to do a nutrition seminar and get an EGD next month. Hoping for surgery in September!

    Approved!

    What insurance?
  17. I am in the 6 month process and have a BMI of 35. I have elevated BP, high cholesterol and high triglycerides with no meds. I worry about the cholesterol and triglycerides and BP and follow a heart healthy diet with no results (in my labs or my weight). My question is has anyone had luck with severe back pain as a co- morbidity- or did it help. Honestly when I think about why I am ultimately having the surgery is the relief of my back pain. It is AWFUL. Thanks in advance:)

    Co-Morbidity Back Pain

That is awesome. Are you post surgery?

    Co-Morbidity Back Pain

This is very encouraging. It is honestly what I am looking forward to the most and what is mostly driving me to do the surgery. I can exercise in the pool but end up in bed afterwards from the pain. I have an appointment on Monday regarding it so I am just hoping they can do something for me while I wait this 6 long months!!

    Pre surgery weight loss

What doctor are you going to? I am seeing Dr. Todd Wilson at UT.

    Co-Morbidity Back Pain

I sure do hope so! Thank you!

    Does the first visit count?

My first visit counted as my first weigh in so I have 5 more.

    Pre surgery weight loss

    Pearland!
  24. Check in your insurance about what they consider "same day" usually it means 24 hours so you do end up staying overnight. With my insurance it is you have to be discharged 24 hours after the time of the surgery start and if that is past noon then you end up staying a second night and get discharged first thing in the morning.
