Liquids - How Much How Soon?
readytoloselbs replied to ErikMesa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a good post. I feel the same way. Today is my 3rd day after surgery and I am able to drink clear liquids with no problem. I don't have to take little sips anymore. I was worried about this. Will this mess up my band if I drink too fast early on? My doctor also told me that he filled me with 4cc's during surgery and I do not seem to be feeling that much restriction. I am starting to feel hunger pains. Is this normal? -
My doctor told me no blood pressure medication?
readytoloselbs posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I have so many questions since I was banded today. I take blood pressure medication and it is a direutic (like a water pill). My doctor told me not to take it? Has anybody else's doctor told them not to take their blood pressure medication after surgery? When I do not take it, I get headaches and retain lots of water. It is a vey uncomfortable feeling. I have my first post-op appt. next week and hopefully he will tell me that I can start taking it again. Thank you everybody. -
New band comes with a fill?
readytoloselbs replied to mandilou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked my doctor before surgery what size band I was going to get and he told me that he would be able to confirm this after surgery. However, he said that he fills it with 4cc's during surgery. I had my surgery yesterday so I will find out my band size when I see him next week. I feel some restriction and have not been hungry yet. -

Thank you so much for your replies. I just thought this was a bit odd since I need to keep my blood pressure down. I would actually love to be off of them for good. I hope I am in the same boat with not having to take them because I have lost so much weight. Thanks again!! -

Coffee good/ bad effects on banded
readytoloselbs replied to slimmy120's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am so glad for this post. My surgery is scheduled for April 3rd and I started not drinking coffee today. It is 9:35pm and I am suffering. I have been yawning all day and I have a headache. I drink three large cups of coffee a day. I am addicted. My surgeon told me on Friday that I cannot have any coffee. He said it stimulates hunger and something about the healing process. I don't understand how some surgeons require different diets and we all have the same band. Has anyone heard about coffee affecting the healing process? Will it mess up the band? I tried decaf today and it is not the answer. I may be able to handle the hunger if I take a sip or two with the band, but I don't want to get in the way of the healing process. -
You must be so excited. My surgery is April 3rd and it cannot get here fast enough. I wish you the best!!!!!

4cc's at the time of surgery.. Is his too much early on?
readytoloselbs posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, I am scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks. My surgeon told me that he fills the band with 4cc's during surgery. It sounds like we cannot determine the band size until surgery. Is this too much of a fill? I have read that people have felt restriction after surgery due to swelling or for other reasons. Do you think that 4cc's during surgery and possible restriction as a result of swelling is too much of an adjustment early on? Should I ask my surgeon to not fill the band until I see how I feel after the surgery? -

Thanks for your responses. I have my surgery on April 3rd. He told me that he would determine the size of my band during surgery. It sounds like the size of the band and the amount of the fill plays a role with restriction. I will let you know how it goes. -

Any April's out there?
readytoloselbs replied to bft33's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I will be banded on April 3rd. I signed all the paperwork at the hospital on Friday and my pre-op diet is clear liquids the day before and then nothing after midnight. However, I am starting the liquid diet so it will not be a complete shock to me after surgery. I drink a lot of coffee so today I am not going to have anymore. It is going to be tough but it is so worth it. I am practicing drinking water from a sippy cup because I am use to gulping my water from a water bottle :> I cannot wait for April 3rd to get here. My doctor told me that he was going to fill my band with 4ccs during surgery. Did anyone else's doctor tell them that they were going to fill the band during surgery? Good Luck to everyone!!!! -
You hang in there. At least you knew the reason why you were denied and you are taking care of it. Be positive. It will work out for you.

What does "significant gaps" mean with Cigna?
readytoloselbs posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
Hi everyone, this is my first post and hoping you can shed some light on what I can expect from Cigna. My paperwork was submitted approximately ten days ago and I am nervously awaiting the results. I wanted to know if anyone knows what "significant gaps" means as it relates to the six-month PCP diet requirement. I saw my PCP in 2/07, 4/07, 6/07, 7/07, 8/07 and 9/07. I have a BMI of 41 and I got clearance from all the necessary specialists (psych eval, nutritionist, etc.). If this is not enough, I have documentation from Jenny Craig, gym memberships, Weight Watchers, etc. but did not submit this with my original paperwork. I have called to check the status every other day and my case is still in review? My doctor told me that it is good that I have not rec'd a denial and that it is still in review. What are your thoughts on getting approved since my visits were not consecutive based on your experience? I value your input. Thanks. -

Thank you everyone for your reply. I think I will make a doctor's appt. this month and get started on my six month process just in case. I have heard so many different things re: waivers on initial requirements or approval based on other information, including a peer review from my surgeon. There is no doubt we can all prove that I would benefit from the surgery :> I called Cigna today to check the status of my file and they escalated it after I spoke with a supervisor. They said that it has been assigned to a nurse and in review. I should hear something in approximately five days. I will let you all know how it goes. Thanks for being a great support group already :>
