  1. I confess.. I weigh myself every morning. The scale is in my bathroom and it is part of my daily routine. I understand the factors that affect my weight so I do not let it get me down if the numbers go up. It actually helps me stay on track.
  2. Hello, I am scheduled for my first fill on 5/19 at 12:00pm. I have been reading all the threads re: how some are affected after the fills. I am bit nervous and hope that I do not have too much restriction afterwards. I have a 10cc band and had 4cc's put in after surgery. I am afraid that I may not be able to eat afterwards, so can I have breakfast before the fill (scrambled eggs and a cup of decaf coffee) or is it better to go on an empty stomach. My surgeon's office left a message to remind me of my appointment but no special instructions so I am assuming it is O.K. Thank you very much for your advice. __________________

    I'm not losing weight

I am happy to see this post. I had surgery on 4/3 and have lost 18 pounds. I have not lost any weight in a couple of weeks and just sustained. I have my first fill on 5/19. I will just stay positive and consider the weight I have lost so far a jumpstart. Hang in there everyone. We are all doing well.

    Going it alone?

My husband and daughter came with me and it was good to see their faces after surgery. My husband helped to walk and help monitor my liquids. Plus, I needed them to drive me home :> I agree that he will just worry if he stays home. It is a life-altering experience and I think it was good for my husband to be there and the beginning of my journey. Good Luck to you.

First Fill Today -- Positively PAINLESS!!!

Hi, I wanted to thank you for sharing this. My first fill is scheduled for May 19th and I have been a little nervous. Now I feel a little better about it. I keep hearing that the fill may not be immediate and I guess I am anticipating not being able to swallow anything :> But I will stay postive and hopefully it will go like the surgery...without a problem.

    April Running-Weight Totals!

I have lost 16 pounds so far. I did not have a pre-op diet, except for liquids the day before. I am so proud of everyone!!
  9. I feel pain too. I got surgery on 4/3 and my port is on the left side of my stomach. I have to sleep and lay down on my left side so that I do not feel any pain. If I sleep or lay on my right side, I feel pain. I also cannot sit up for long periods of time at home without pillows propping me up. I will feel pain if I am not slightly laying back, like on my couch or bed. The good news is that it seems to be getting better as time passes. I guess this is part of the healing process. Good Luck to you.

What?! I was filled in surgery!!

I have a 10cc band and had 4cc's at the time of surgery. I am scheduled for a fill on 5/19. I feel some restriction but still get hungry at times. I am hoping that my fill works. I don't want to keep going back too many times. But, I will see how it goes.
  11. I have found a consistent trend with the band. When I have eaten enough, I will hiccup/burp. When this first happened, I ate a little more and felt stuffed and kind of uncomfortable. Does anyone else experience this when the band is full? I am glad that this happens because it helps me better manage my portions. By the way, I have a AP Standard 10cc band and got 4cc's during surgery.
  12. I am very happy I got the band. Today is my first birthday in about 10 years where I am down 15 pounds. If I had not gotten the band, I would have gained more weight. I feel much better and more energetic. I am so happy I got the band and the things that I may not be able to eat (like french fries), I don't need them in the first place :>
  13. My BMI was 41 and I did not have to go on a pre-op diet. I just had to do liquids the day before surgery and then at midnight I could not have any liquids. Good Luck to you!
  14. Hello, I got banded on 4/3 and feel good. However, today I was outside planting flowers and felt a sharp pain after about five minutes. I had to stop bending over and come in and rest. Is this normal? Has anyone else felt a sharp pain in the port area due to too much activity three weeks post op? I also still feel numb in the port area. Is this normal as well? As always, thank you for your feedback.

Sharp pain while gardening outside today

Thank you very much for your replies. You have put my mind at ease. I felt better when I came in and sat down for a while. I will just take it easy for now.

    Post op Pain

I am about two weeks out and still feel numbness around the port area. Also, I feel cramps at times. It feels like I drank a lot of water and then started jogging and then cramp up. I find this comes about when I sit for a long time. Does this happen to anyone?

    AP Large ??

I have a 10cc band and got 4cc's during surgery. I feel some restriction now. My first fill is the second week of May so I will see how I feel by then.
  18. I use to be able to use Equal and Splenda but now it does not seem to agree with me? I feel nauseous after I use it. This is strange because I used it in my coffee all of the time. Now I am drinking decaf and want to know if real sugar will affect the lapband? I know that I will not be able to tolerate some things and I guess this is one of them. Thanks.
  19. The same thing happened to me. I had my surgery on 4/3 and my out of pocket expense was $2800. When I went to the hospital a couple of days before surgery for my pre-op appts, they asked me how I was going to pay the $2800. I told them that my insurance company told me that they ask the hospitals not to ask for payment upfront as a courtesy. However, the hospital still has the right to ask for the payment. I asked if I can pay $200 as a good faith effort and they said O.K. They just wanted me to pay something on the bill. My advice is to ask them if you can just pay a small amount like I did upfront. I worked with the person that was in charge of billing and she worked it out for me. I paid the $200 the morning of surgery and all went well. Good Luck.

    Your diet

Hi, I know exactly what you mean. I had surgery on 4/3 and when my swelling went down and the gas pains subsided, I was hungry. My pre-op diet is just like yours. I called my surgeon on 4/8 and told him that I was hungry and they moved me to phase two (all liquids instead of just clear). I was not drinking my protein shakes and when I started incorporating them in my diet, I felt so much better. I have an appointment tomorrow and I am going to see if they can move me to mushies because I want some veggies and some more protein (pureed chicken, tuna, etc.). My advice would be to call your surgeon and see what they advise you to do. Good Luck!!!
  21. Great Job!!!! I got my band on 4/3 and hope I have the same results in a month!! Keep up the good work.

Banded two years; Going on Nutri-System

I tried Jenny Craig and lost about 25 pounds. The food was delicious. I stuck with the snacks and the frozen foods. I did not like the canned food too much. The pesto pizza, lasagna, fish and fries were very tasty. It was all about portion control. Good Luck!
  23. I am confused. I am on clear liquids but I have read that some people suggest protein shakes to curb the hunger since we cannot eat solids now. Are these protein shakes that are clear? I am starting to feel hunger pains today and I drank two sips of low carb Slim Fast and my hunger subsided. This is the only thing that I have that is liquid that has protein in it(20 grams of protein). Does anyone have any suggestions on clear liquids that have protein in them or is drinking one Slim Fast a day O.K.? I think the band is so fragile and don't want to do anything that will interfere with the healing process. Thanks.
  24. Hello, I was banded on April 3rd and I am on a liquid diet. At first I had to sip my water very slowly. Now I feel like I don't have to sip it. However, when I drink the water too fast, I get this tightness in my chest. It feels like indigestion. It is a little pain between my throat and the top part of my stomach and then it subsides when I burp. Does anyone else get this feeling? If this is how it feels when food gets stuck, I am going to make sure I chew my food until it disappears in my mouth!!!
