    Scary and painful!

I am not banded, but I have had that happen to me. It's such a horrible pain it brings tears to my eyes. But I have GERD and gastritis. It happens more often when I drink coffee.

Hi Nick! Congrats on your great progress! I am considering NYU for my surgery and will go next week to their information seminar. The only problem is getting in and out of the city after surgery. (I am in NJ) I'm also having difficulties getting someone on the phone to answer my insurance questions.
  6. I am not banded yet, but am a little worried how I'll make it through this phase too. I mean let's face it, I'm a voracious eater or I wouldn't need the band, so how do I do just liquids and deal with that kind of hunger ?

I suggest we keep an eye on that particular seller to see if they list bands again.
  8. Really??? Then perhaps I should keep my appointment with him and see what happens??

    Was the seller suspended?
  10. Hi Alex! I know that is part of the whole deal we must go through, but I find it odd that the center in Princeton had it all included for me and the out of pocket expense for me is much lower. I wonder why? I really want to use the more experienced surgeons, but I have no income right now. :-(
  11. Hi all, I've decided to get the lap band and am taking the steps to do so. I saw one surgeon in Port Monmouth, the nutritionist, etc. Everything was included and they said I'd only pay about 5% of what Medicare doesn't cover. The only thing is the surgeon is not as experienced as some others. I considered going to Dr. Fielding at NYU and also seeing Dr. Abkin in Morristown, I have appointments with each. But I have found out I have to pay over $700 for the nutrionist and psch eval and I was told by other patients that Medicare will only cover 80% of the surgery bill. I have to pay the other 20% for the rest of the surgery. I'm not working, so I just don't have it. I don't know what to do. :-( I am feeling really poorly lately too. I have developed sleep apnea as the weight increases and really feel the need to get this as soon as I can. Need advice
  12. I called Dr. ABkin in Morristown area and booked an appointment. However, I found out the nutritionist and the psych eval would be around $700! I can't aford that, I'm on disability

    Has Oprah had WLS?

I didn't know her hair was a weave. It looks great, the best ever! She hasn't had surgery, she said so and I think unlike Star Jones, Oprah is the kind of person who would say so if she had. SHe says getting up every day to work out is what did it for her.

    Unbanded after 4.5 years....

25 %? Wow, that is a lot!!:-( ANd I wonder why they did not see the infection before? Would'nt a blood test or a sonogram show it inthe gut?
  15. I'd like to hear your experiences, if they take Medicare and also your wait time for surgery.

    Anyone else have fibromyalgia?

I have Fibro! I also have PCOS and the PCOS has but 100 lbs on me, and made the Fibro much worse. SO I am hoping the weight loss will help many of the symptoms. I'm just a little nervous about inflammation , infection and reaction to meds, because you know we can have trouble with those things.

    Star Jones

Well I'm glad she is at least admitting to "medical intervention". I mean come on, it's not like a reporter is hounding a celebrity to find out how she lost weight, the woman is writing and speaking about weight loss. It's like writing a travel guide but neglecting to tell people she rode on a plane.
  18. Check this out: http://thinforlife.med.nyu.edu/media/stories/khaliah_ali.html Muhamad Ali's daughter had lap band! SHe is a physically active woman, who like me, just could not control her portions.

    Im a chicken

I'm not bannded yet, but I can relate, I hate the thought of surgery too. The worst for me is the waking from the fog and weakness of anestesia (sp?) and that soreness in your throat from the tube. I had my gallbladder out a few months ago and they gave me morphine before I woke up and as i came to in my room, I thought the blessed Mother was outside the window. LOL

    Buying Protein Drinks in Bulk

Does the Isopure contain soy protien? SLimfast and whey shakes really do a number on my stomach. I'm looking to buy (in bulk) something that agrees with me

    What about vanity surgery

I can so relate to what you said about will power Jacqui. I work out and always have, I wanted to be thin so badly and always did, but something was broken with my appetite/hunger regulator, like you said.
  22. At a support meeting I went to the other night, the surgeon was saying he is seeing bypass patients begining to GAIN back their weight after a certain amount of years. He said after a while, the body can take on more food, and unless you have changed your eating habits and your way of life, and not just relied onthe bypass, you start to gain again.
  23. I take Xanax for anxiety/Panic disorder, but really need an anti-depressant too. My body can't seem to tolerate them so I've been on a search for over 2 years now and remain unmedicated. SSRI's I can't take at all. I took the lowest dose of Zoloft and on the 3rd day, the walls began to move in and out. It was horrible.
  24. Helloooo Anyone from New Jersey here? I'm in central NJ, Matawan. I am looking for a REALLY GOOD surgeon that takes Medicare.
  25. I went to my counselor today and spoke about the band and I think I have made the decision to do it. I just need a really good surgeon I can feel confident in and also someone who will manage my gastritis, GERD, Asthma, chronic fatigue and fibroymalgia issues. I am now on the hunt for a REALLY GOOD experienced Lap band surgeon in NJ that TAKES MEDICARE. I am having trouble finding that combination it seems. Dr Borao out of Monmouth Medical center is a very good surgeon but he does not accept insurance! :-( His office staff have been rude to me over the phone as well. Let's get this show on the road! :-)
