Anyone else going through that second guessing stage? I had a dream last night I was banded. I dreamt I was surprised I could lay on my left side with my cat. My cat Sam DEMANDS that I cuddle him with his head on my pillow and I have to be in a spooning position with my arm under him, which requires I lay on my left side. (If I don't do this, he taps on my head with his paw all night until I do) I also dreamt I drank something at normal speed and THEN remembered I was banded and began to panic, waiting for the PB pain to commence.

    Painkillers

Hey all, I would like to know if anyone here is like me and senstive to painkillers, opiates, etc. I saw on my surgery notes they will be pumpng up with Oxycontin. I've never taken that before. I once took a half a Vicodin and was really sick for 5 hours. Percocet makes me really dizzy. I would only take 1/4 of it in the hospital when I had my gallbladder out and they did shoot me up with a good dose of Morphine when they sewed me up and i seemed fine. I always worry about taking stuff and most of the time grin and deal with the pain.

Can I get an amen and some cowbell to that?
  6. I had my pre-op class today and I have gained 6 lbs. I was told I should lose it as fresh weight gain goes right to the abdomen and takes up the room they need to operate. If there is not enough room for the intruments, they won't do the surgery. Yikes! Also ran through the possibility of having the tube put in BEFORE you go nto surgery. I would defo panci. I hope they take it out before I wake up too.

Pre-Op Class Makes Reality Really Sink In

  8. I am so nervous!! My breathing and asthma is really bad right now, so I am so nervous I will have a problem. Last night my boyfriend said I was snoring pretty badly and kept waking myself up. I wake up feeling pretty lousy. I was reading on obesityhelp about a guy who's lungs were not breathing right from the surgery and they had to put him on a breathing machine and sedate him because he paniced and tried to pull out the tubes. He woke up 3 days later and had no idea what happened. I am also nervous because I have Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue (Epstein Barr) which are considered auto-immune diseases. I'm wondering if I will be one of the ones here who are always in pain or having a problem with the band.My doctor took my medical history, so he knows about it and didn't say anything other than banding would help my symptoms.I was on another board and people with Fibro all said the lap band helped them, so that's a relief. This weight is killing me. I'd do with a some twinges, pangs and dings to get myself healthier if I have to, but I sure hope that won't be the case.

Exactly Photonut, well said. My health is my responsibility, I can't assume or even trust that the medical community is going to take of me for me. Again, Tricia is not stating people on the forum are dumb for asking questions, she is wondering why the basics are not known prior to people making the decision to have the surgery, which I think is a reasonable thing to wonder about. In any case...ditto what Photonut said. She said it better than I.

I know the title was harsh. But the content of the thread was along the same lines when I was checking out that support meeting of that other surgeon. I was pretty shocked.

I totally "get" what Tricia is asking. I think the question was misunderstood. A few said something about coming on the forum to ask questions meaning they are stupid. I defo did not get anything near that from Tricia's original queston.

Had the pre-op class today. YIKES! I think I'm even more nervous now! They were talking about the tube in your throat and if they can't see your vocal chords when they examiine you, they will put it in while your awake. idabejeebus!!!

Why didn't we know ... before surgery?

Tricia, It's not a dumb question. I have been saying the same thing. Most people look at me strange when I do or ignore my post (not here, on other forums). I researched this for a year. I mean it's not a diet, it's not signing up for the latest expensive diet or health club, it's FREAKING WLS SURGERY! I went to another surgeon's (not the one I chose) support meeting and the POST OP banders in there had no idea of some of the issues, complications and information I was bringing up. I WAS SHOCKED. I'm talking even simple stuff like what a band looks like, what kind of bands, slips, erosions, etc. One woman was existing on ice cream and couldn't lose weight and some guy just drank protien drinks and came in to see the surgeon maybe once a year. Amazing. The only thing I can think of is that people get so desperate they don't care? I don't know. But the people who are very uneducated about this surgery and how to live with it like Ice cream Lady and Protien Drink Man may hurt themselves or their progress in the long run.

HELP!!! Was in the ER last night

I let my gallbaldder problems go on for much too long. I kept putting off the need to have it out until it began to give me pancreatitis. Sometimes it pancreatitis can develop into chronic pancreatitis. DO a search on that sucker and you'll not want to fool around any longer, that's a serious disease. I was foolish in putting it off, but lucky that my pancreas was not permanently damaged.

caffeine to be or not to be

I notice that caffiene, specifically coffee spikes my insulin and I'm really hungry an hour after drinking it. The lap band nutritionist I met with told me that they caution against caffiene because you have to then sip on even more Water throughout the day to make up for the water loss, as caffiene is a duretic. Becoming dehydrated is an issue.

HELP!!! Was in the ER last night

Sounds like a gallbladder attack. They are really painful. I went to the ER with one once.I can't believe no ultrasound! The gallbladder gets irritated by fats and caffiene, so take it easy on those until you get to the bottom of it! best wishes

why is YOUR nose bent out of shape?

Nietzsche, Goethe and Thoreau can get your head on strait when it's spinning. Oh gawd, me too. And I have always said, having manners is showing others respect and having respect for yourself. I watch those shows on tv like Wife Swap and The Nanny and I get crazy. I used to waiter and waiting on these kids and their parents are a nightmare. Now that I see it's a widespread problem across the country, it's no wonder the USA is like the fall of Rome.
