Pain in Band Area: Yup It's me Again...
NeenBand replied to NeenBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Kathy! Glad you don't mind the flooding of the board with my question. Saw my doc, I'm hydrated, thank god. He said the pain sometimes happens when someone is swollen and their body is still getting used to the band. He said it will go away in time. You mentioned to avoid slippage, PB's etc. Can you get more into why you mentioned it? Is it because you and I have such good restriction? How does one avoid a PB? I thought it was almost unavoidable to see what foods you can tolerate, etc? -
Carolyn, I'm 9 days post op, and I was terrified of the changes too. That's why even though I was approved for this surgery a year ago, I did not get it done. I was not ready, plus I wanted to read up more etc. During that time I also came to realize I could not lose weight and keep it off on my own, was steadily gaining and I was headed for early death. It is a huge lifestyle change, I'm not going to sugar coat it for you, so if you feel you could lose the weight without surgery and keep it off, then I would do that. In my opinion weight loss surgery shold be the last resort.

Congrats and I best wishes on the band being everything you hoped for. :-) -
I wonder what happened?

Thanks Alex. :-)

I woke up last night with pain where my band is, at the bottom of my esophagus. It feels like a throbbing-squeezing and it hurts. I had to get up and take liquid tylenol. I have to take the stuff every 5 hours. I wonder if this is normal for 9 days post op?? Are you supposed to be able to "feel" your band in there?
-
Hey all, 7 days post op. I'm having a hard time staying hydrated. When I drink a good amount of Fluid (even sip, sip sip) my stomach becomes distended (I guess I'm distending my pouch) and I get terrible left shoulder pain. I tried slowing down the amount of fluid, but I'm becoming dyhydrated doing that. My urine today was very, very yellow, and I'm not going to the bathroom much.

Thanks all. I'm on protien shakes and creamed Soups and Water. I just don't want to stretch my pouch. This booklet I was sent home with from Inamed said you could.
-
Hi Mini. Like you I 'm having a hard time interpreting the sensations. Despite this, your doing so well. Good for you. Your post brought up a question I have been wondering about and that is stretching the pouch and slippage. I'd like to know more on it to avoid it.

I've got a Partial Slip! Thoughts on re-positioning?
NeenBand replied to jigglypuff's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh man..I am so sorry. I can feel the sadness and frustration in your post. I'm newly banded, so I have no answers, but just wanted to respond. DO they know what caused the slip? -
Oh Megan, this is both so sad and touching. Just think if this poor dog was homeless on the streets wit this illness. God directed her to you, that is for sure. Bless you for your generous, unselfish heart. When I am old and memory's threads begin to ravel and come undone; when friends become fewer, drifting away like the dying sun, then I shall remember you. I shall remember the love you gave that put a smile upon my heart and many a tear on this old face when it was time for us to part. I shall remember you.

Thanks. I'm also drinking hot decaf tea, which is going down well. I have a feeling I'm going to be one of those bandsters that doesn't need a fill...ever.

Hey all, just spoke to the nurse at the office and she won't be in till 1 pm, but they said she would be calling me.

Hey all, I was wondering if any of you have ever had the after surgery gas get stuck in yourbowel? I have the diaphram-neck-shoulder pain, but woke up today to very tender pain on my left lower side. Hurts to laugh or breathe even. I do have mild diverticuli in my bowel, but to have a flare food has to be caught in it, and I've not eaten anything. Still on liquids. I was just wondering if this could be gas or should I take myself to the gastro. :faint:
-
Well that lower bowel pain went away. It was being caused by the protien drinks. I swear, none of them are suiting my gut. I've done Unjury, Isopure and a high quality soy protien.
-
Hey Wheetsin. :-) Water is room temperature. I'm trying so hard to keep drinking, every 30 -60 seconds I take a small sip, but it's hurting. :-(
-
Thanks so much for replying. You people are my life line. Kathy, I may have to do just that. I'll call tomorrow. Doc says sip sip sip, but I am am am. If I sip any smaller I won't get my fluids in, which is what is happening, hence the dehydration. A lot of acid too despite his recommendation of Prilosec It's actually up high, this feeling, and to tell you the truth, the more I drink, the worse the acid reflux gets. I have taken everything I can, Prilosec, Pepcis and tums. The acid is bad. I can feel the Water and the acid coming up my esophogus.

Hi Sparkling. I have to admit, the gas is probably worse than anything else. (If you have it bad) Everyone says heating pads and gas x is the trick.

Does anyone Chew and spit just to get the mental out of the way?

I was just watching a show on this last night. It's considered to be an eating disorder. -
I went to my gyno today and told him of my banding. He was very supportive of the band. He was talking about the risks associated with the bypass. He was telling me he was just through with a surgery when one of the other surgeons asked him to assist with a bypass that just came into the ER. Part of his bowel had died. He said witjin 2 hours, that man would have died. But he said what was even more serious is the state of the re-routing, they could not figure out how to get the bowel stiched back so everything flowed in it's natural direction because it was such a mess in there. He said the surgeon he assisted was the best on staff too. (He was not the surgeon who did the bypass) He also said it sometimes doesn't matter how good your surgeon is, it's such a serious surgery the body may just not take to it. ANd he mentioned most seem to gain weight back even after all of that. He was so supportive though, telling me how extra weight can cause Uterine cancer and how, and that maybe once my weight is down, I can go back on BC pills. STill having gas pains, this time in my lower left bowel as well as my shoulder. Ouch. Hurts to cough. I'm also having trouble keeping hydrated. I distend my sstomach trying to get the water in. My urine was very very yellow today.
