When the scale doesn't move,do something different
crocodoxie replied to sunshinetinks's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Neat visual for motivation! -
Mayo makes me so uncomfortable, even in small amounts. I found I can easily substitute it with Tzaziki (sp?) sauce -- and happily don't miss mayo. I like a smidge of something on lunchmeat roll-ups or something for moisture. This has helped.

Did your spouse's weight change after YOUR surgery?
crocodoxie replied to Polly Pocket's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband started changing his eating habits when I started prepping for surgery (I had 6 months prior to surgery in August). He's lost 40 pounds and blew past his goal of 30. Very proud of him. He feels great and has kept up his good habits. -
I'm at 4 months post-surgery and I haven't lost any hair yet. I keep waiting. Tried to prepare myself. Nothing yet. Crossing my fingers that it sticks around. As a side note, I had back surgery last year (for those who speak of anesthesia causing some issues/body trauma)...didn't lose any after that surgery either. I do keep my protein intake solid, not a clue if that's helped.

Share your story: Weird body habits post-op
crocodoxie replied to Rose400491's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My nose runs when I eat too fast, too! I've taken to setting a timer between bites to slow me down. Even when i thought I was going slow, I wasn't going slow enough. That's made a big difference and is teaching me to wait longer. Two mins between bites seems optimal for me. One minute isn't long enough...three is perfect, but my patience wears thin! -
Major issues with calcium
crocodoxie replied to Taunter's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
The petites are still big, but I got a pill splitter and chop them into smaller pieces. Made a huge difference for me. So instead of tossing back one bigger pill, it's like 3 little pieces. I do that for all bigger pills now. -

Fabulous...you look great! You lost years off your face as well as weight off your body. Great motivation. -
I accidentally used a straw, not thinking. I had a cup of water at a diner. Small sips. I was like, OMG! A STRAW, what did I do? It ended up not bothering me. What I did find, is when I was having trouble getting in enough fluids, when I added a straw and took small sips, I drank more. It is advocated to avoid straws. I've made the choice that because 1. they don't bother me, I'm not having issues, 2. I take small sips, 3. I tend to get in more fluids....so, I use them. If your surgeon's office says don't use them, follow your surgeon's suggestion. Everybody has such a different experience of what will or what won't bother them. I read the boards and see how different we are with what we can or can't tolerate. At 50, I take in as much information as I can, then I parse it out and figure out what works for ME. As for extra air, i always pace for ten minutes after a meal, to help counter any air issues, but straw wise, it's ended being a non-issue for me. THIS IS A PERSONAL CHOICE FOR ME. Honestly, at the end of the day, you need to do what works for your journey, and what will help you on your path to success. Best of luck!

Missed this, but hope you had a great trip! I love Disney and have done it often. One of my favorite places. -
I can eat something one day, the next I can't tolerate it?
crocodoxie replied to Flutterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I have the same thing. Greek yogurt, one day I love it. The next, just the smell turns me off. Eggs, fab for a week straight, the next week, nope, not today. It's an interesting process and I just accept it for what it is. I usually know within a bite or two. -
Quest here, too. Great to have in my purse as a go-to if needed. Half is usually all I need, then I'm solid. My husband (didn't have surgery) loves them too. His fave is the Apple Pie. Mine is the Cookies and Cream. We've yet to find the Birthday Cake variety anywhere. He's itching to try that one.

If I have fruit right now, it's applesauce, and for constipation, the only thing that helped me after surgery was Smooth Moves Tea. Holy cow, that was an experience...nothing, I mean, nothing was working. The tea...the next morning, life went on. I keep it in the house. I'd found out about it after my back surgery last year. I jotted a note down, just in case! Only, I didn't have an issue until this surgery. OMG, it was a life saver!

I guess it depends on where we carry our weight also, and if you've given birth might change where weight settles. I was an 18 when I weighed 180 lbs eons ago. I started at a size 24/26 - 3X (at 270)...now at 200 lbs, I'm between an 18-20. 18's are snug, 20/1x is fitting pretty on spot with some things looser. I'm 5'5"/apple now, growing up was hourglass shaped. I'm currently 50. My body shape changed a lot over the years after having kids.

Post-op Needs & Random Question
crocodoxie replied to LINZ62383's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have a drain, but I do have a tip that helped me when I came home. I got 2 ounce souffle cups...the disposable ones. I got a pack at Walmart for about 2-3 bucks...had about 60 in there. They're the kind that a restaurant might put sauce in, clear plastic with lid for take-out or something. They were near the paper plates, paper cups, etc. I doled out 2 ounce servings of things like greek yogurt, popped the lid on and with a Sharpee marker - noted how much protein was in each. SO i could grab one, know it had X amount of protein, and was a good size. I'd fill some half-way, yes, believe it or not, a few spoons is more than you think when you're just starting out. Anyway, of everything I did, that was actually the most useful and what I was most grateful for. I had a few stacks of pre-made/pre-sized things so when it came time to eat something, I didn't have to think about it. Best of luck on your journey. -
