  1. Sorry you haven't gotten more supportive responses. Here's where I'm at emotionally. I know what's right for ME. I couldn't tell you what's right for other people, but I trust myself enough to know that I'm making a well researched decision. The end. My loved ones can support me, or vent to somebody else. I don't have time to wallow in negativity. This is a positive and happy experience. They are welcome to tag along....but I'm doing this for ME.

UHC Choice Plus & 6 month requirement experience?

Not in ATL. I'm in NJ. When I went in for my first visit, I spoke with the surgeon, and then sat with the nutritionist. I have to have six visits (one each month - not like two in June, etc, has to be in separate months)...they counted that visit as my first, so I had to have five more. My last one is this week, then surgery in August. There are a lot of hoops to jump through, other doctor visits, etc...so the six months actually flies by. I had files from previous visits at other doctors, but they only counted my weight at that first visit -- and said that by following these rules to a tee, it makes the approval process at the end go much smoother. We check things off as I go. I can only offer my experience, as I'm sure others will chime in with theirs. Good luck. Some insurance only requires 3 months, but ours is 6. I ended up being glad in the long run, because it's allowing me to absorb the changes I need to make and I've been changing my habits to make the transition easier after surgery. Best of luck to you.

    New male user. July surgery.

Jim, good luck with your surgery in July. I'm August 1st. My husband was a Jets fan...I still married him anyway.

    New male user. July surgery.

Ahh, yeah. I grew up with the Eagles a part of my life. That's funny. My bad for assuming you were local. As a kid, Bill Bergey was my favorite player...back in the Jaworski (sp) days. That dates me! Then we had some good years with Cunningham. I got away from football a few years back, and when I moved over to NJ, I was like...why are they showing the Giants and Jets on TV!?!? haaa....went from suburb of philly to suburb of NY, go figure.
  7. I wish you a wonderful, smooth journey. I'm Aug 1 and like you have watched/read anything I could, reading so many details...so appreciate the amount of information available.
  8. Congrats! Can't wait to join you in this journey. A few more weeks until my surgery. Looking good!
  9. I just wanted to give this tip if you're nervous about injections. I'm on insulin and stick every night. One of the things I've found over the years...is when I'm prodding my belly for a place to stick, the softer, squishier the spot, the better. I never feel those sticks. Your mileage may vary...but as a seasoned sticker, that's my trick.

    August Surgery

I haven't done the swallow test you've spoke of. I have done all my other testing. I started in Feb with a bang and followed things closely, then in June I've gotten lazy with choices, and need to correct that pronto. I'm going away next week, but the good news is I'm staying with somebody who's had the surgery, so it won't be a vacation of food! My 50th birthday is next week, and I think I've used it as an excuse this month. EXCUSES bite. I need to get over it and walk away from the ice cream.

Hey Philly, just a somewhat neighbor waving. I grew up in Bucks and am over in NJ now. I'm glad you found us here so you have more support. No shame in trying to get healthy Good luck getting those 2 pounds off before your pre-op appt. You've got this, stay focused.
  12. Awesome! I hope it's a fun car - as much as you hoped it to be.

    Diabetes and liquid diet

I had to do a liquid diet prior to back surgery last year. Same thing, some scary lows during a three day clear liquid diet. I'd never seen a 35 before that time...thankfully, my body woke me and nudged me to grab glucose. My best advice is to talk to your endo. if you go to one. I was in contact with my endo through it, and we adjusted what I was taking. I don't know how it works with a pump though...so I can't offer anything there. This time, I'll definitely adjust the amount of insulin I'm using...since two weeks will be a challenge with my sugars. Best of luck on your journey.

    Bipolar 2

Sending a hug. Both of my adult sons have bipolar. It can be tricky, but with the right combination of meds, hopefully you find your solution with surgery.

    Anyone have UHC insurance???

For me, yes, they did check to make sure I'd be covered before setting up appointments. It was a fast process, but I was happy to know before starting the journey. Now I'm wrapping the last of my appts/needs...started Feb/surg. early Aug. A lot of hoops to jump through.

TSA body scan anomaly after surgery

Good to know. One time, I just wasn't thinking and wore a dress that had these little sparkles on it. I lit it up like the Fourth or July! LOL -- Been patted down with a walking boot when had an Achilles problem...so I'll just add this to the list. I always go through the full-body machine through Philly. MCO (Orlando) is hit or miss. Those are the airports I've been through the most.
