I had gastric bypass surgery on 1/24/17, and went back to the gym the second week after. I was sore and swollen, but I was more than ready to start losing the weight....plus I vpulndt stand to lay and sit around and only walk around my house. I started light, just walking the track at my local gym, everyday for at least 30 minutes a day. From there I have progressed to running a mile and half, 30 minutes of weight training, and swimming laps in the pool for an hour a day, 4 days a week. I have lost 50 lbs so far and 15 inches. My heaviest weight was 330, pre surgery weight was 274, and now I'm at 224. I'm feeling alive again. The problems I was having with my osteoarthritis have gone down drastically! I'm keeping up with my 3 kids, 2 of which are teenagers, and I'm loving life again! I have changed from one of those people that dreaded walking too long in a store to being one that looks forward to the gym days and hiking trails. I can't wait to see what summer brings!! I keep trying to upload my pics but can't seem to figure out how to do it. Can anyone explain that please?

4.5 months out and bought my first pair of shorts!
LatinaLite posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I haven't been able to wear shorts in over a decade. Today, while on my first vacation in years, I tried on and bought my first pair of shorts. I have lost close to 70lbs and today can fit into an XL shirt and a size 16 bottoms. That's coming from a 4x top and a size 24 bottoms just 4.5 months ago. I am too excited with my progress!! I feel like I not only have a second chance at life, but I have a hindsight that will allow me to do things a bit better this time. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -

HW: 330 SW: 275 Cw: 215 Lost almost 20 inches from my waist! I am so excited to share that on my 100th day since surgery, I am almost in One-derland! To celebrate..and for a much needed stress reliever, my family and I have a 5 week long cross country camping and hiking trip planned in 17 days!! I'm so excited that I get to participate! I had honestly thought that I would never bee able to be this active again. But I'm running....yes running...a mile and half everyday, going strength training 30 minutes a day, and swimming laps for an hour. I feel amazing. The effects of my osteoarthritis have almost completely gone away! The amount if energy I have now is incredible. I feel like I'm living in a dream...but please, nobody pinch me [emoji4]

I'm happy that my post could give you some encouragement. Our stats are very close and I do hope that you have the same amazing feeling and results that I am having. It is like night and day for me. I went from a depressed, exhausted, unmotivated person yo an energized, excited, self co rodent woman in four short months...and those feelings grow stronger everyday. My cravings have started coming back but I must say that no food ever made me feel as good as I do now. I wish you the best of luck!! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Everyone loses differently, but I think mine comes from changing up my daily foods and going to the gym 5 days a week and swimming. I make sure that I eat my protein first and don't eat the same things every single day. That I think has helped me. I also stay on a very strict schedule with my eating and activity.

So I had gastric bypass surgery on 1/23/17, highest weight was 330, surgery weight was 274, and currently at 224. I've lost 50 lbs and 15 inches. I feel great, have tons of energy, and love going to the gym or outdoors with my 3 kids, but my boyfriend, who is over weight as well (around 315lbs.) Just can't seem to keep up with me anymore. He has lost around 30 lbs on his own since last Christmas, which is fantastic, but lately he has been skidding back into old bad habits. He always has an excuse not to go to the gym, he sneaks sweets late at night, won't go out with us, and just generally sits on his butt all day watching YouTube videos...when not at work. We started this weight loss journey together! He didn't want surgery, but me having osteoarthritis at only 34 years old, I needed it. He is approaching 40 this year and even though he doesn't have serious health problems now, I'm afraid that if he doesn't start to change and get active, he will soon. What attracted us to each other was out sense of adventure and loving the outdoors...now Im lucky if I get him to go on the back porch. I'm so frustrated! Any suggestions on what may be the problem or how to get him motivated once again?

I have told him how afraid I am about this journey. I try to be as non nagging as possible, but I'm at a loss as to what is bothering him. I know that he has insecurities...that has been present for both of us since we first met. I'm thinking that it has to do with him approaching 40 years old this year, needing a life change of his own but not wanting to admit it, and also with me diving head first I to my health change. I think he is afraid of what the next half of his life will be like. But I can't seem to get him to admit that he is even acting different let alone do something about it. We have one couple we do things with but both of them are over weight as well. The wife has started her weight loss journey but the husband hasnt...same scenario as us, but he is distancing himself from them as well. He won't even do a guys night out with the other husband like he used to. He just says that he's not feeling it.

He doesn't do anything with me anymore...im not exaggerating either. We try to have date night but it ends up with him ordering so much food and alcohol that he makes his stomach hurt and we have to go home. He won't go to the theater with me, he barely even eats dinner with the family unless I ask him to. He spends all of his free time in his shop. It's the kids and me going places and doing stuff. He chooses to stay home in his shop alone. We don't even watch our tv shows together anymore. As much as I tell him that I miss him...it doesn't change. He seems sad, depressed, but won't tell me why. He gets excited when we talk about our vacation, but as soon as I mention that maybe we should prepare ourselves for the long walking trails at the state parks...he goes silent. So I leave it alone, change the subject, and get him talking about something else. But that only lasts so long before it's time for kids activities, appointments, gym time, etc. And he chooses to stay out of all of it. I feel like I have lost him. I miss his company.

O won't slow down because of his choices...but it is hard loving forward without my partner. I don't want to see him having the health problems many over weight people have. I want to spend these adventures with him...not simply sharing them with him afterwards.
-
Nagging is something I don't do. His choices are his choices, but I would like to see him beside me while exploring new places, sitting next to me on an amusement park ride, or being able to walk trails on our camping trips. I don't want to see his health decline because he chooses to not get healthier. I miss him. That's the true problem. I am out getting my life back...something we were supposed to do together. I don't want to lose my spouse along with my weight.

Introduction..Just saying hello!

For my stalls, I do something or eat something out of the ordinary. Many times the body gets used to a routine too fast and doing something to break that kind of shocks it out of that stall. I went through week 3 and 4 without any weight loss, so I changed up my activity times and changed what I was eating and when. That worked. The next week I dropped 6 lbs. -

Mickie, congrats to your sister on her success and to you for your journey so far. I've started the soft foods stage now and am so much happier for it. I'm not really hungry...ever, so I set alarms for my meals and make sure I get in my protein and fluid too. I've been going to the gym since the second week out, but I'm just now able to start doing other things besides walk and swim. -

A stall is when your body holds onto weight because it is afraid it is going into starvation mode. There are certain things one can do to break stalls. It's nothing to worry about and they are completely normal. It's just the body's safe guard mode being activated while it adjusts to things after surgery. -

I've lost 35 lbs. So far, but it hasn't been easy. The pain just went away completely this week and my mood swings have finally stopped. I'm finally feeling back to normal now...actual better than normal. My energy level this week had been through the roof! How has your journey been so far? -
Hello everyone, this is my first post on here, I just recently had gastric bypass surgery on January 23 of this year, and I'm looking for a good support system. I've been struggling with my emotions being all over the place as well as my energy levels and eating tolerances. I keep hearing that all this is normal, but I'm just needing a friend or friends that have been where I am at or are currently dealing with the same issues to talk to. My family is very supportive, but I have never felt this out of control of my own body and emotions before. Any advice is welcomed!

Looking for weight-loss buddy/partner PA
LatinaLite replied to LatinaLite's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you for the words of encouragment. We Latinas do love food. Cooking, eating, sharing, doesn't matter, food is just a big part of life. Even though I can't eat many things now, I have found in the last week that I enjoy cooking. Just that, cooking. I don't have to eat the food, only cook it and feed my family and I'm fine. It has become a therapy of sorts for me. Also, the mood swings are getting better. I am on a soft foods diet now and I think the introduction of things other than liquid and puree helped. -
